Léo Delibes - Lakmé, Flower Duet
The Grand Opera Gala in support of the AIDS Foundation was again held at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. The event has become an established fixture on Berlin's cultural and social calendar. In this year’s edition, the chorus and orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin under the baton of internationally acclaimed conductor Donald Runnicles welcome some of the world's leading Opera artists - both talented newcomers and established artists.

This is so often a competition piece. These two listen to one another and make a masterpiece.

I love the expression in the piano parts especially. Also very nice to see the difference in mouth shapes used by soprano and mezzo. Clearly a contestant for one of the best performances of this aria.

I quite enjoy how they both really LISTEN to each other. No overpowering the other. They can both be very 'dramatic' performers (with all respect), here they seem to settle and match into each other. Bravi~.

The best version by far, the tempo is good, the vibrato is still vibrant and Simone was louder in this version.

@@MonsieurLu77 - Bei Sumi Jo & Ah-Kyung Lee singt zwar Ah-Kyung Lee sehr sauber und fast schon überartikuliert, Sumi Jo jedoch singt unsauber.

Mit Sutherland natürlich nicht zu vergleichen, aber wesentlich besser, als es Kermes je singen kann.

A duet heard too rarely (as is the very beautiful opera from which it comes), so thank you for this exquisitely-sung performance. (Sorry, can't help but comment on perhaps the most hideous combination of gown and hair-"style" ever seen! But we are here for the music, and for that, certainly no complaints whatsoever.)
Added after listening again: the singing isn't really that good (particularly Kermes); I was responding more to the appearance of this beautiful duet.

I see nothing ridiculous on her hair, I can imagine hair styles in the past were far more extravagant than this... Let her be.
