  • This is a video of making a texture hammer for use in making crafts.
    I have been asked to make a video for a long time. It puts my mind at ease now that I can teach and show you how to make a texture hammer.
    Hope this helps you.
    Thank you very much for watching.

    [ GUIDE ]
    The nitric acid (etching solution) used in the video is diluted with 80% water and is not very dangerous. It's relatively safe because it's as acidic as the vinegar we eat, and it's okay to lightly smear it on your hands.

    Beautifully built texture hammer! Didn't know nail polish would work as resist on 20% HNO3 but worked perfectly and the etch was deep enough to make quality patterns. The Cocobolo was stunning and adding the brass pins was a nice touch! Thank you for showing this technique and another artisan tool fabrication!! A real treat for the soul.

    Hey, I'm from Brazil! I came across your channel by chance, and I'm in love with your work! You are an inspiration for me!
    What are the benefits of camellia oil on metal?

    • @SilverMeister
      @SilverMeister  Před rokem +2

      Camellia oil is vegan oil.
      The reason for applying oil is to delay
      and protect the oxidation of the silver surface.
      A very thin oil film protects the surface.
      After applying the oil, clean it again to finish.
      The camellia oil that I use is safe to eat.
      It is a very good natural oil that is harmless to the human body even
      when the ring is worn on the hand.
      This is the part that a lot of people are curious about.
      Since my work does not have a special finish after completion,
      As a minimum surface protection, it is often finished by applying natural vegetable oil and wiping it.
      Although it is not shown in the video, it is sometimes coated with natural beeswax (honeycomb).
      Beeswax melts easily even at low temperatures (approximately 60-80 degrees) by applying slight heat to it and coating the entire work.
      Since what I am aiming for is nature-friendly as it is, it can be viewed as a minimum protection work.

    Interesting choice with the .45 caliber casings, a lovely piece as always though! I can't tell if the rain I heard was from the music you added, or if that was genuinely present the day you filmed, but it was a great touch either way!

    • @SilverMeister
      @SilverMeister  Před 2 lety +1

    Hi, love your work, thank you for sharing so much knowledge and amazing craftsmanship. Could I please ask - what is the purpose of the brass pegs you put into each end. It looks to me that when you put the hammer head on you would have drilled right through it at that end? Wondering if it is some sort of strengthening for the timber or just cosmetic? Thank you again for sharing.

    • @SilverMeister
      @SilverMeister  Před 5 měsíci

      The brass cover serves two purposes.
      One, it acts like the head of a nail.
      The two are designed like bullet casings and serve as beautiful decorations.
      Thanks~

    I'm not a metal worker so I half expected that for making these hammers one would need regular tools and to cut into the metal.
    Using the acid is such a simple and genius idea.
    Also I really like the background music you put in this video.
    Kinda curious, what was that electric screwdriver you used?

    • @SilverMeister
      @SilverMeister  Před 2 lety

      The electric screwdriver I used can be easily purchased from a global tool sales site. Search.
      The one I used in the video was bought by my friend for me.
      If you have one, it will be relatively inexpensive and useful.
      Thank you for supporting me a lot and I will try to show you better videos. thanks~

    • @SilverMeister
      @SilverMeister  Před rokem +1

      Tienes razón.
      Las ollas de vidrio o los tazones de esmalte son buenos para encurtir.
      Los he usado en el pasado.
      Sin embargo, el vidrio es quebradizo y los tazones de esmalte se oxidan y abollan con el tiempo.
      Así que uso una olla de acero inoxidable.
      Todas las herramientas que uso tienen más razones para usarlas.
      gracias ~

      The screw type is called a "Torx", they were designed as "anti-tamper" screws for electrical items but that became pointless once the driver was commonly available to public.

    The finishing touches you do, like the bevels on top with the file are precious.
    Your idea of using a Chicago screw to secure hammer head to handle is fantastic. I wonder if this would hold up with the forces experienced by a carpenter’s hammer or forging hammer.
    Where did you get those special Chicago screws, they are beautiful.
    Oh, one more thing. You drilled that hole by hand. I would be too worried about alignment of the two ends. Those things must be centered. But you just did it by hand. Sign of a true master.
    The brass rods at the ends are beautiful.

    • @SilverMeister
      @SilverMeister  Před rokem +1

      The iron applied to the hammer head is carbon steel with a hardness of about 58.
      For me, the strength of the iron and heat treatment are not important.
      This is because a hammer is used exclusively for working with non-ferrous metals such as silver, gold and copper.
