Wedding rings MOKUME GANE (Aros de matrimonio con la técnica MOKUME GANE)

Good morning, this time I show you how to make a couple of marriage rings with the technique called Mokume Gane.
MOKUME GANE is a Japanese technique used 300 years ago for making swords, MOKUME means "wood grain" and GANE means "metal." The name probably was coined because the finished product looks similar to laminated wood. Mokume gane consists of metal sheets made into a laminated block..
The first step is to make a solid block or billet of metal by submitting the sheets to intense heat in a reduction atmosphere under pressure so that the metals join together without the use of solder. For this we prepare fine silver an copper sheets, The amount of copper added to the billet changes the fusing points so that they are all very close to one another, no matter what precious metal they contain. Their hardness is then also similar, and once the sheets fuse they are compatible when forged and rolled.

( Buenos días, en esta ocasión les muestro cómo hacer un par de anillos de matrimonio con la técnica llamada Mokume Gane.
MOKUME GANE es una técnica japonesa utilizada hace 300 años para hacer espadas, MOKUME significa "veta de madera" y GANE significa "metal". El nombre probablemente se acuñó porque el producto terminado se parece a las vetas de la madera. Mokume gane consiste en láminas de metal fusionadas en un bloque laminado.
El primer paso es hacer un bloque sólido de metal sometiendo las láminas a un calor intenso en una atmósfera de reducción a presión para que los metales se unan sin el uso de soldadura. Para ello preparamos láminas finas de plata y cobre. La cantidad de cobre añadida al bloque cambia los puntos de fusión para que estén todos muy cerca unos de otros, sin importar el metal precioso que contenga la dureza es similar, y una vez que las láminas se fusionan, son compatibles en el forjado y enrollado.

My wife got me a mokume ring to replace my wedding band. She got it from the master blacksmith that owns iron river knife works. He’s one of the few masters in the states that makes this stuff. It is very rare here and although it is very soft it is the most spectacular piece of jewelry I own. The man walked into our store with about $50,000 of it for sale. He had rings, small bowls, knives and flatware all handmade mokume gane. We bought three pieces from him wholesale not realizing what it was worth. I wish we bought more.
