The engines were in full reverse at the time, which is why the ship didn’t go straight through the pillars and kept on moving. It is like trying to stop a car going down hill on ice. Also, on ships like these, when you lose power, the rudder doesn’t work anymore. The reason why they were turning is because the channel is a left turn out. Which is why the rudder was pointed left to begin with. The rudder is motor powered so when they lose power they can’t change the angle of the rudder which is why they kept turning. And for everyone saying they need tugs, they did. They had 2 which let it feel when they hit the standard speed. They also have pilot that boards the ship only for the trip out then he gets off again. They are the most skilled drivers of the port so the actual captain wasn’t piloting the ship when it crashed. It also doesn’t help that the ship was in an accident 4 years prior and sustained damages to the rudder which were never fixed. This is just a weird coincidence and accident. We’ve seen it before. Maybe someone hacked it. GPS spoofing is happening all over the world and it’s simply because the signals are not encrypted and are insecure. Maybe this is only a test of something that could be way worse in the near future. Now how about this scenario in a plane, pilots sit back and let auto pilot handle everything in zero visibility conditions. With GPS spoofing you can trick the airplanes heading and change it in the direction you want to go without the pilots knowing because of zero visibility. The hackers can then fly it to God knows where or fly it into something. Many of these devices are accessible for consumers to purchase such as the HackRF I believe it’s called.

It appears to me that the ship lost power just before hitting the bridge. Once it lost power, it's possible the screws stopped turning and it lost headway. When that happened, the river flow caused the ship to drift to starboard. Power was restored just before hitting the bridge, but too late to recover.
