      The main reason is because we've found that nickel plating onto nickel (after the nickel strike) has a high likelihood of having issues. Ultimately, although this method did work, it is NOT at all how we would recommend plating a slide. It's a miracle it turned out as good as it did.

      Typically, doing an entire gun in gold is quite expensive, as the bluing needs to be removed, the entire gun polished and then multiple steps to plate it. A rough estimate would be $500-$1000.

    • @user-oo2bt1bd2x
      @user-oo2bt1bd2x Před rokem

      For this process to this nice bright shine you have to remove the bluing by sanding or dipping it in some rust remover to get to to medal. After the bluing is off you have to sand and sand and sand then polish to mirror finish then you can plate. You gold plating will look as good as you finish (polishing). Note if it's (carbon/mild) steel be sure your going to plate right after your done polishing or you slide will start oxidizing with in minutes. This will not happen with stainless steel.

      All plating is susceptible to wear over time. Many guns that are plated are done with Nickel or Chrome as they are hard metals that hold up quite well to wear. Gold plating onto guns is extremely popular right now as well, and the people who get this done get it plated with a hardened 24K bright gold. The thicker you plate it, the longer it lasts under normal wear.
