I remember when going to a car deanship back in the 90's and the gold package was the in thing to get at the time. I did not think this was popular any more.
Back in the 90's it was HUGE. We sold thousands of our Gold Star Kit and did plating for dealerships all over the USA. It fell off for a decade or two and now it is back and spreading like wildfire. Low-riders, show cars and even regular cars are getting gold packages now. In the show car community is a must-have, in the current trend. Muriatic acid/hydrochloric acid/HCl will remove chrome quickly. You should apply the plating solution over a larger supply container so that the excess drips into the larger container and isn't wasted.

That clips you use, connected to the "Common" black cable, is that like a ground cable? You have it connected to plastic. Would it work on a larger piece of plastic and/or is there a size limit to what you can plate?

how to know if the gold solution contains cyanide stuff? I've seen the dark pink solution like in this video and some clear solution, they all claimed they didn't use cyanide.

Yes. As long as the item is chrome plated you can plate it. This item is plastic that is chrome plated, and as you can see it works great! Thanks for the question.

You need to comply with local disposal laws and regulations. It varies from area to area. Usually landfill's will take waste. You can collect your waste in large containers and dispose of them all at once.

How well would this electro-plating hold up to the high heat of say a motorcycle exhaust? I'd like to go gold on my bobber, but don't want to buy new pipes since theres nothing wrong with my current chrome pipes.
Usually if the heat will affect the look of the chrome it will affect the look of the gold plating. Our gold is great on high temperatures (up to about 400 degrees) but the metal beneath the gold may start to corrode.

There is no need to apply multiple coats. The longer you plate the thicker it gets. You can gold plate directly onto a coin. DO NOT HOME BREW YOUR OWN GOLD SOLUTION! Regardless of videos shown on youtube it is extremely dangerous and the result is far from professional.

Can you use this on items already gold platted that need to be touched up and stainless steel items
Absolutely! To touch up gold plated items, you need to get it looking as good as you can before starting the 3 step process. Sometimes the gold needs to be removed first, other times you can just plate over it and it looks great. Stainless Steel can easily be plated with this kit as it comes with everything necessary. Keep in mind, that video was for demonstration purposes and if we were doing it for a customer we would have plated the entire knife.

Thanks for the good questions:
1- How long the gold plating lasts depends on how thick it is plated, the conditions it is exposed to and how often it is handled. If you apply a thick layer and take good care of it, it can last many years. We have an employees car that has been plated for over 20 years.
2- Gold plating itself does not rust or corrode like many metals do when exposed to moisture. The only thing that can happen is the underlying metal can corrode. We have plated hundreds if not thousands of faucets over the years, it is very common.
3- We are not familiar with electrostatic paint, sorry.

What is the Nickle Activation solution? I've never heard of it. I'm assuming it's not nickle sulfate or chloride right?
Nickel Activator (or Surface Activator) is an acidic solution that has no metallic content. It is purely for activation of certain metals. Either an activator or a strike is used when plating onto almost any metal, which one is used depends on the metal being plated onto.

The thicker you plate it the better it holds up. Its hard to quantify how long it will last in any given situation, but i can tell you that we have had people buy it for that purpose and also to gold plate scooters.

Will the gold not apply if you do not use the activator?
All of the steps we have shown are very important to the gold adhering properly but also looking correct in the end. If you do not strip the chrome and activate the nickel the gold will not turn out the way it should. We would never include steps that do not have a good purpose.

If I gold plate a matte aluminum piece, will the end result look polished?
If a piece is dull before plating, it will be dull after. If it's shiny before, it will be shiny after. Unfortunately, you are not able to plate onto aluminum on a consumer level. It would need to be nickel plated by a professional plating shop before you can plate it with our products.

Unfortunately, no. Chrome plating is a very toxic process that requires baths and special permits to do. Your best bet is to send them to a chrome shop.

Why didn't you put a layer of nickel instead of removing the chrome layer? Will I get the same result if I don't remove the chrome layer and put a layer of nickel?

We don't do Neo Chroming, sorry. We only do electroplating with standard metals. I believe Neo Chroming is done by applying Titanium Oxide via PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) over a standard Chrome plating.
how long does the gold last before it starts to fade?
How long gold plating will last depends on a few variables.
1) How thick the gold is applied.
2) What type of item is it/How will it be handled?The thickness is controlled by how long you plate the item. For instance, if you were to stop plating immediately after the item turns gold, that would be a very thin plate. However, if you spent multiple minutes plating that same area, it would be very thick. The thicker the gold the longer it lasts. Different types of items are handled differently, some a lot and some not at all. If it were a decorative item that is never touched it would stay gold plated indefinitely, could be centuries. If it were something like a Wedding ring that is worn daily, it then depends on how thick the gold is plated. If it were a thin plate it could wear off in a week. If it were very thick, like Vermeil plating (100 micro-inches) it cost last a lifetime. When done properly, gold plating lasts many years if not decades on most items. If it's a thick gold plate, even on an item that is handled properly, it should last many years unless it is purposely removed by abrasive means (polishing etc.)

Yes, they work just great. This particular emblem shown here is a plastic emblem.

Electroplating only affects conductive (metal) surfaces. Those areas were unaffected because they are plastic.
Possible for polished aluminium parts?
This kit cannot plate onto aluminum. Aluminum is quite tricky to plate onto and should be done by a professional with a industrial bath plating setup. Beware anyone who tells you otherwise or tries to say that you just need a secret solution to make it easy. Thanks!
Would it be difficult to do the heads of tiny screws with this? Looks like it wouldnt be easy.
If you refer to some of our "Pen Plating" videos (czcams.com/video/sTxOgqKNlPU/video.html) , you can see that we plate extremely small areas using the Pen Plating Tips included with the kit. We've never seen a screw small enough that we would not be to plate them using our pen plating tips. Hope that helps.

Yes, however hotwheels need to be nickel plated prior to gold plating. Typically they need to be sent to us for this process as they are made of zinc and zinc can be tricky without having a Cyanide Copper (we do not sell this).
