    ABOUT ME:
    My name is Mengy and this is my motovlogging channel, Moto Mengy. I plan to upload a Goldwing moto vlog every Monday. I ride a 2018 Honda Goldwing DCT Tour but I rode Harley Davidson's for 25+ years before. I'm motovlogging with a GoPro Hero 8 Black mounted to a Bell Mag 9 open face helmet, no external mic! To me riding is wind therapy.
    My goal for the channel is to motovlog Pennsylvania country roads while also motovlog exploring around America. I'll also talk about biker topics and such, probably test ride a few other motorcycles, and will definitely get lost and accidentally wind up on unpaved roads along the way.

    I picked up my 2021 Honda DCT with airbag last month. It’s an amazing ride. I’ve ridden Harley and Kawasaki. The Gold wing takes the cake. FYI another way to disengage the cruise control on a Honda Gold wing DCTS is ti slightly roll the throttle up in the opposite direction. It will automatically disengage the cruise control.

    Thanks for the button tour bro! I have the 2020 Africa Twin Adventure sport DCT so many of the controls are similar. I've been going through some anxiety about if I chose the right bike for me though, and now have mixed feelings telling me I might have been happier with a 2020 or newer Goldwing DCT. I prefer the bagger version though because my wife isn't that much into riding so I don't need a passenger seat. I think one day I may end up with one of these bikes, or who knows, maybe I can find someone who wants to trade for my Twin. I'd really like to see you demonstrate how the walk modes forward/reverse work on that bike. A feature I would love to have for parking or turning around in tight spaces.

But you should safeguard against using a car battery for jumping unless in dire circumstances; use it without the car running to lessen the amperage to your GW. Assuming this video is still accurate in 2024, you accidentally answered a question I've had: I know you can Manually shift a DCT using the 'paddle shifters', but wondered if you can Manually shift the DCT using a traditional toe-shifter? Obviously, since there is no Manual hand clutch there can be no traditional Manuel toe-shifter. I'll try to keep an open mind, but I must admit, not having traditional Manual shifting as an option is a BIG negative for me. On the open road there is no practical difference between auto and manual. In traffic driving an auto would be easier but I trust myself more than a machine. I suppose I'll have to look into what (if any) non-shift related advantaged the DCT has over the Manual T.

      From what people have told me there is a manual toe shifter which can be installed down below like normal, though there still isn't a hand clutch. I've heard it works pretty well, but I've never looked into it myself as I'm completely happy with the bike just as it is.

    too many buttons to operate while riding on the road.. takes too much of your focus away from the road ahead. The screen should be touchscreen to make it easier to select addresses for navigation instead of having to scroll through city, state, street, house number, etc.. takes forever to get going.. Also, what's the deal with the gas tank? it takes four steps to open the filler.. open panel, press button, open second panel, twist open filler cap?? Honda needs to reduce the number of buttons, add a touchscreen, and simplify the gas fill up process and you'll easily double your customer base.. love the DCT though.... but bike is not ready for me to trade.. great video though.. thanks for sharing..

    • @MotoMengy

    The buttons, knobs, switches, electronic ride and traction controls, radio, GPS, and Phone are to me a distraction from the experience of the ride. Too bad U cannot buy a stripped Goldwing with a 6,5 gallon tank and bigger paniers that will fit two helmets and a bike weight of 650 lbs. for $18K.

    • @MotoMengy
      @MotoMengy  Před 3 lety

      That's what the ST1300 used to be, a stripped down Goldwing more or less. Honestly all the buttons don't distract me while riding because I don't need most of them 90% of the time while I'm riding.

  • @letitrest4662
    @letitrest4662 Před 3 lety +1

    I've been riding for 42 years... I can see those over-complicated controls getting someone killed. Honda, keep it simple stupid. This isn't a Lincoln Continental. A rider shouldn't have to be searching buttons to look for the correct function. That's one of the things I like about my 2013 Fjr, It doesn't have an infotainment system, but most everything else is there and accessible with two switches, and you don't need a navigation system to find your way through your bike's electronics. And don't even get me started on talking about a motorcycle having automatic transmission. Europeans think Americans are lazy, because we have automatic transmissions in our cars. You know, they're right about that. Motorcycles ? Really ? Drive an effing minivan.

    • @MotoMengy
      @MotoMengy  Před 3 lety +2

      I have to disagree with you on both the controls and the DCT. The new Wing has a LOT less controls than the previous generation Wing did (it's actually comparable to a Harley Road Glide), and I feel the automatic nature of the DCT actually makes riding safer than shifting. But this is why a variety of bikes on the market is a good thing, everyone has different desires and opinions on what is good and bad! 😎
