ABOUT ME:
My name is Mengy and this is my motovlog channel, Moto Mengy. I plan to upload a Goldwing motovlog every Sunday. I ride a 2018 Honda Goldwing DCT Tour but I rode Harley Davidson's for 25+ years before. I'm motovlogging with a GoPro Hero 8 Black mounted to a Bell Mag 9 open face helmet, no external mic! To me riding is wind therapy.
My goal for the channel is to motovlog Pennsylvania country roads while also motovlog exploring around America. I'll also talk about biker topics and such, probably test ride a few other motorcycles, and will definitely get lost and accidentally wind up on unpaved roads along the way.
Please SUBSCRIBE if you like my motovlog channel and LIKE any videos you enjoy! Thanks!!!

I bought a 2022 Honda Goldwing Tour DCT and traded it after a year for a 2023 Chieftain Darkhorse.Bringing the Chieftain home i noticed my teeth were rattling. Did 5 thousand miles on that bike over the summer of 2023 and it was a fabulous bike but After 6 months I was over it and Bought a new 2023 Goldwing in March of 24 which my wife says I will be keeping now. I just missed the Goldwing too much. Turns out I like the comfort and having kept the backrest skidplate and all the other stuff i had put on my 22 Goldwing I saved a ton not having to buy them all again. When you have a Goldwing it's difficult to find anything to trade Up with. And that little lesson cost me 18 grand.
Thank God you came to your senses Jag. 😂 The Gold Wing isn’t prefect but it’s prefect for me. Enjoy. Smart choice.
Yep. I love my Wing and its spoiled me with how awesome it is. The down side is I'm probably stuck with it! 😆
@@MotoMengy
Not so bad is it? Nah. Not so bad at all. Everyone should experience such a phenomenal machine. Pure Lexus of motorcycles.
🌿 WOULD A CHIEFTAIN KEEP UP WITH A GOLDWING ⁉️
@@David-yp4fl
Off the line from a start, is one area a stock form motorcycle’s performance is evaluated. There are probably few, if any heavy touring motorcycles that would be as quick, off the line, as the new generation Gold Wing. So the question could an Indian Chieftain beat a Gold Wing. In my opinion, no. Once these two bikes got up and rolling after the initial start they both have their own performance characteristics. But from a dead stop to say, a 1/4 mile point, the Gold Wing wins. The Sport mode is a beast. The DCT is seamless and errorless in shifting quickly with no loss of time or power. Not sure about “roll-on”comparisons. Someone else could speak to that.
I’ve been riding my 4 Harley Ultras for 34 years now. My present ride is a 2012 Ultra Limited Stage II. Since the Goldwing DCT came out I’ve been interested. I rode a 21 at Lake George Americade a couple of years ago. The 2024 Road Glide is the first Harley I’ve been interested in since 2012, but at the same price, after adding accessories, as the loaded Goldwing DCT, it’s still very much like my 12 FLHTK. Goldwing will probably be my next touring bike.
I owned 7 HD's before I finally switched to my current Wing. I'm so glad I did it too, at the time I wasn't so sure but that passed within the first hour of riding. 😎
🌿 YOU OR DEFINITELY A MAN WITH GOOD TASTE 💡 DON'T RIDE THE NEW MODERN INDIANS IT'LL MAKE YOU TRADE ONE OF YOUR HARLEYS AND SPEND MORE MONEY 💰💰
@@David-yp4fl Modern Harley's are more advanced than the Indians at a way better price point
When I had my Gold Wing, I set the electric windshield once and never moved it again. I didn’t find it to be such a great feature that it’s a must-have going forward. If you’re considering the Pan Am, you really should ride a 1250 GSA, or a 1250 GS if you can find one. Power, handling, tech, and well proven. For this engine in a sport tourer, the 1250 RT is really something else. I would do it before the GSA/RT go to the 1300. You can’t ride an imaginary unicorn bike, so you may be on the Gold Wing for some time!
I NEVER SEE ANY OF THESE MOTORCYCLES FOR SALE IN MISSISSIPPI IT'S LIKE THEY ARE GHOSTS 👻 MOST DEALERS IN MISSISSIPPI DON'T EVEN SELL MOTORCYCLE 🤔💡🤔
I have a 2005 Goldwing and a 2004 RT. Would love to get a new RT. I love the power and lighter weight of the RT.
@@George_in_York_PA
I hope one day to run into a low mileage old generation Gold Wing
The RT might be the best all around motorcycle out there. I love my '21, it's incredible in every way. It's super comfortable and refined for long days of touring, but it really handles extremely well and the boxer twin is easy to open up and pull hard from turn to turn.
The GSA is legendary, but I just can't get into big ADV bikes, I prefer lighter and smaller bikes off the pavement.
@@David-yp4flthere's a few Kawasaki Voyager 12's still out there, I think they made it mostly unchanged from 86-2004. I had an 86 and wish I had a newer one because too much stuff kept breaking on it.
Glad to hear you American talk and comment on choice of bikes, how many are in your garage, how much you spend, how much you lose.
I am 68 and ride a 2year old Indian market Yamaha FZ25. The astronomical cost of everything motorcycle is prohibitive in my country. Brake pads for the front and rear cost around US$135 !
When a bike is bought, it is kept for many, many years.
But......enjoy it !

Bikes have certainly gotten expensive here in the US. Almost prohibitively so. 😞
🌿 EVERYTHING ABOUT A MOTORCYCLE HERE WHERE I LIVE IS EXPENSIVE I AM ALWAYS SPENDING MONEY KEEPING MY HD GOING MY EVERYDAY RIDER YAMAHA I'VE NEVER SPENT A DIME I HAVE AN INDIAN CHALLENGER ALL I HAVE BOUGHT FOR IT IS TIRES OIL FILTER AND OIL 🪔
2024 BMW K1600 GTL. What an incredible experience. Retirement gift to myself!
I need to test ride a new one, soon.
2018 Grand America in Austin Yellow and a Brentune for me.
Keep the Honda man, this is an awesome piece of machinery and like u said, its paid for😀👍
Agreed 100%! 👍
🌿 I LIKE THE WAY YOU THINK 🤔
AND DEBT THAT IS NOT A GOOD THING 💡
ONE BIG PROBLEM WITH THE GOLD WING THE GIRLS AROUND HERE DON'T LIKE IT 💜
There is one thing that will happen and that is downsizing for when you get too old for a heavy bike. Apart from age I agree there is no better street bike than the one you have full stop.
My Goldwing got too big for me. Went from a GL1500 to a V-Strom 650 XT Adventure last year and I couldn't be happier! Manageable and has almost as much luggage space.
Yep, I can feel old age starting to have its way with me already. I don't think it will get better over time either. 😞
@@MotoMengy
No, it doesn't get better!😁 But downsizing isn't so bad. The Strom is surprisingly comfortable but I miss the radio, cruise control and weather protection.
I definitely agree. A sports tourer with Pan American engine would be a game changer for Harley. I’ve been saying that since Harley introduced the Rev Max. I ride a BMW RT arguably the best sport tourer in the world. I would definitely give Harley sport tourer a look. Enjoy your channel! Love the country road rides and the beautiful Goldwing (best color).
🌿 DOES BMW EVER HAVE RIDE DAYS WHERE YOU CAN TEST THE MOTORCYCLES ❓
@@David-yp4fl If you find the Euro Dealer that allows test rides, you can usually ride anything you want without an escort, or a lame demo ride.
@@David-yp4fl Yes , I actually live in Jessup Md. a couple of mile away from Bob’s Motorcycles . Bobs is a BMW, Ducati dealership, one of the well known BMW dealership on the east coast. You can test ride any motorcycle anytime. Ride the beautiful GW down, and take a test ride. I’ll take on a ride through some back roads of Howard County Md.
I've never ridden a BMW RT, maybe I should... 🤔
My stable is now at 12. I was going for all segments that I was interested in.
My fat pig tourer is a Grand America. My second best tourer is an ADV bike - a 2020 KTM 1290 SAS. I also love to tour on my busas and ZX14r.
Pre touring bike purchases, I rode sport bikes cross country.
If the BMW deal didn't get done, I'd probably have a wing.
You own 12 bikes? I just got extremely jealous!
🤔🇺🇲🇺🇲🤔
@@MotoMengy When insurance and registrations are due, I'm jealous of my 1 bike days.
If someone creates a Storm Trooper speeder bike, I would trade everything for one.
Take care, ride safe.
Oh I can agree on that 1000%!
The downside to having a top of the range bike that is incredibly suited to your type of riding is that there will not be anything that would be a real upgrade.
ST1100 or ST1300 would be a decent side-grade or even upgrade (depends on your use case) to the Goldwing for the larger gas tank that the ST1100/ST1300 has AND the better fuel economy.
So even more range besides just because of mlre gas.
It's a tough problem to have! 😁
Interestingly, a Chinese/Thai manufacturer, Felo, *did* recently announce an electric touring (but not sport touring) motorcycle, the Tooz.
So, there's *three* ways to get range: better batteries as you pointed out, but also *more* batteries, and more efficiency (which, for highway, means better aerodynamics). They appear to have crammed 35 kWh of batteries into a Gold Wing-style tourer. (They're claiming 450 miles range, but that's on a Chinese test cycle that notoriously overestimates EV range. For cars, it's usually around a 35% overestimate of range, which would be about 333 miles, but due to motorcycle aerodynamics being what they are, I'd expect worse yet... but it still might exceed your 250 mile target.
(I've honestly been thinking for a while that a tourer - ideally Gold Wing style, but with more American cruiser ergonomics to get the rider's head a bit lower reducing frontal area - would be the way to go for a long range EV motorcycle. The tourer market is the only one that'll accept a 900+ pound motorcycle to have room for the batteries needed, and the bodywork including the bags and topbox can be designed to minimize drag coefficient as much as possible.)
Oh I'd not heard of that one before, interesting! It does kinda look like a Goldwing! But man 35kWh on a bike, that would be heavy!
💪🇺🇲🇺🇲💪
Bottom line...If you love your bike, Keep it. Pay it off and enjoy it. If I would ever sway away from Gold Wing, it would be an Indian for sure.
Oh thats the single best feature of my Wing, its paid for! 😁
Why do you want to get rid of it? The BMW K1600 Bagger is sweet with real foot rests. You can get the back luggage rack from the GT model on it too. Nice bike if you really want something else. I got the 2023 R1250 GSA. Love it!!!
Oh I don't want to get rid of my Wing, but I still find it odd how no other bike even tempts me to get rid of my Wing. 😁
Adventure Mengy! A DCT Africa Twin! The 24’s are sweet! Have you ridden one yet? HD Pan and Indian Challengers +1. Sweet, no question.
🌿 DO YOU LIKE THE 1200 DCT REBEL ❓ 🌿
@@David-yp4fl
Indeed David!
I've not ridden a new AT yet, every time I call none of my local Honda dealers have any in stock! 😣
@@MotoMengy
DFW Honda Powersports. A level 5 high volume dealer has them. They’ll pick you up at the airport or your hotel. Fly & drive. Great bikes!
Why trade? Just collect.
I own a 2022 goldwing, and I'm looking at the African twin as a single rider backup. However, I would never give up my gold wing 😂
@@JJACK2024
I own 8 motorcycles including the 2020 goldwing tour. A set of brakes and a set of tires and one air cleaner later 50,000 plus miles. "You don't get yesterday back, and you can't buy a minute" !
I'd need a bigger garage first. I'm not saying its out of the question....😆
@@MotoMengy you'd be surprised how many motorcycles you can get in a two-car 30 by 30 garage
Ive had goldwings since 1985 and I think the reliability cant be beat. Compared to other bikes my maintenance costs are very low. When I got my 2018 i was expecting great things from the new technology and I have been disappointed. I knew the luggage capacity was less and they did come to their senses and made the trunks bigger but I think the saddlebags shown be a minimum of an inch wider. I wish you could move the seat back one inch and the radio is worthless. There are other things i could mention but this might just be my last wing. Too many disappointments.
I love my 2018 Wing but it is also my first Wing too. I do agree the saddlebags could be bigger, coming from Harleys the Honda saddlebags are tiny! Other than that though I have very few complaints about my Wing, the GPS is the biggest negative for me.
I test rode a HD ultra glide. I kept my Goldwing dct tour. Goldwing has too many features that I appreciate.
Agreed, its hard to give up the features of the Wing once you have them. Makes trading in very difficult!
The only bike that really has my eye right now is the 2024 SG or RG [I can't decide between them]. Like yours, my bike is paid off, it runs fine, and I have no interest in getting a new loan.
I like the 2024 RG more from the seat, but I think the 2024 SG looks better from off the seat! That new Batwing fairing looks great IMHO.
@@MotoMengy Yeah, I think you're right. The RG looks like it has an overbite. I still like having the infotainment screen where I can reach it from the seat - #TRexArms
I can relate. Not much out there to trade it for. Ducati V4S possibly, but its not as accommodating for a passenger.
An electric touring bike would be awesome! I'd rather see closer to 300 miles of range, because AFAIK, most of the chargers are closer to highways. I prefer back roads, even on longer rides. I'm still waiting on someone to figure out a 100mpg hybrid touring bike. I think that's the best of both worlds until battery tech and charging infrastructure catches up.
With how fast charging stations are being built now, it won't be long until they are as numerous as gas stations even out on minor roads. Probably a few years yet.
@@MotoMengy Yeah, that timetable seems about right... if the pace of adding them continues.
Hey, Moto....you're in my area! I live in Oley, PA!!!! Love your channel and the Goldwing. I currently have a H-D Sportster 1200T. Do you think someone who is 5'7" with a 29" inseam and a weight of 180 lbs could handle a GW? I've been riding for over 40 years. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.
User-ET. Get out there and demo one! There are women riding Good Wings. Watch Doodle on a motorcycle! Life’s short. Ride one and see for yourself. Otherwise you will always be wondering. Know one knows but you.
🌿 @@roadglide many of the Honda dealers will not let you ride them unless you buy them 😳😳
🌿 I AM GOING TO GO TO NASHVILLE TO THE BIG HONDA DEALER AND RIDE ONE OF MY SELF 😎🇺🇲😎
I've talked to a few shorter people (I'm 5'8") who own the new Wing, they don't seem to have any issues with it. I'd say test ride one to see how you like it! Oley is a beautiful area to live in! 😎
0:15 well, to answer the title... a Manual Goldwing.
Having an automatic motorcycle when you have a functional left knee and a functional left hand and AREN'T in Japan carrying a to-go box in your left hand is just such an odd choice imo.
Good chunk of the benefit to motorcycles is just the accessibility to actually control your fuel consumption and speed with ease... and you want to give that up just so you don't have to pull in a clutch?!??
Have you ridden a DCT Wing? I used to think like you do, that automatic bikes are ridiculous and not fun, but I admit now I had no idea what I was missing. I'm not sure I could give up riding a DCT bike now, its been that awesome to me.
AS you know, I recently sold my beloved Victory Vision and bought a BMW R1200 GSA. I needed a motorcycle with some off pavement capabilities. If I had been looking for a large bagger, it would have been a GW. If a motorcycle works for your intended purposes and you enjoy riding it, why trade it in? I have plenty of other things I would rather do, like have the cash to take some long tours and see places I've never seen or meet up with old friends. I have over 3 Million miles in a semi and have been to every state and Canadian province, but running back roads very little. You like the bike, keep it.
LEONARD THAT R 1200 IS POPULAR
I'VE SEEN PEOPLE MENTIONING IT ALL OVER CZcams 🇺🇲 WHAT MAKES IT POPULAR THE PRICE THE QUALITY OR BOTH ⁉️
@@David-yp4fl It is both, David. It is phenomenal on the road in all conditions and very predictable off road, depending on your tires of course. The fit and finish rival Harley and the placement of switches are ingenious. It truly is a swiss army knife of motorcycles. Of course, they have had almost 30 years to refine it. Mine is a 2017 that I picked up with 24,000 miles on it. It has everything and looks brand new. BMW riders are meticulous about their bikes.

Lots of people love the BMW's, I just don't like how they look or feel from the saddle. Not sure why, but they just don't suit me for some reason. 🤔
🤔 THE SALES ARE DOWN ON THE GOLD WING AND THE #50 ANNIVERSARY IS AROUND THE CORNER. AND EVERYONE SAYS THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING TO IT BUT CHANGE THE COLOR AND PUT A ANNIVERSARY BADGE ON IT
AND OF COURSE THEY WILL RAISE THE PRICE
Have a '22 bmw rt and its been a wonderful bike. I tried out the new styled road/street glide and while nice it doesnt have the comfort of the rt. Pursuit is a nice bike too but they need to up the fit and finish.
Yeah Indian beats HD on a few fronts now, but fit and finish aint one of them. I still love riding HD's but I wouldn't want to give up my Wing for one today. BMW's seem comparable to the Wing overall, with little gives and takes here and there.
I was a Harley Davidson fan for yrs . And I can't lie. The Honda GW is the best touring bike period . And it will smoke most Harley's . I'm done on road riding . There were too many funerals . I would rather be off-road . I get to relax a little .
Riding road motorcycles in PA seems to be getting more stressful over time, it just feels like people drive worse than they used to. I'll admit I've questioned it a few times, whether or not I should keep riding for my own safety's sake.

Love mine, the brakes are sooooo good too.
Man so many people saying BMW to this video, I suppose I really need to test ride one of these!
@@MotoMengy I love them all. That’s why I have 3 different rides. 2005 Blue Goldwing, 1993 Blue Heritage and 2004 Black RT. Newer bikes kind of scare me because of all the electronics. And the more I hear people talk about the newer bikes, all the problems with the electronics and connectivity issues with all the latest gadgets. I test them all and found the RT to be the most to my liking, mostly because of the weight difference.
You ride you, but I dont want an automatic motorcycle nor an electric one. There is not enough charging atations that are not off major highways. We also do not have the infrastructure to support electric vehicles. I also dont want to relay on planning my route around a chargong station.
If a bike used the Tesla network and had 250+ miles range I'd buy it today. I've driven my Model Y all over the US, including country out of the way roads, with no issues at all. But I think such a unicorn electric bike is still a long, LONG ways off. Until then any electric bike just isn't worth it unless its only for local riding.
GW may be the best engineered and most reliable, but it’s bland looking and has no soul. So, you can keep riding the ‘Camry’ or trade it in for something w character/style.
Have you ridden a new Wing? I hear that a lot, how the Wing "has no soul", but I don't agree with that at all. It's got a lot of soul IMHO? 🤔
Indian doesn't make a bike that appeals to me at all. I have an 03 Goldwing and would like a new one, but it's hard to justify the $25,000 difference.
I like the Indian Challenger / Pursuit a lot. Not enough to trade my Wing in, but I still like them. 😎
I had 2 Pan Am's and both were plagued with firmware issues and the control panel was not that good. I traded it in for an Ultra Limited.
I have a 2021 Pan Am, I love the bike but have had too many electrical problems so I'm trading it for a 2024 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES. I'm just waiting for the Africa Twin to arrive.
My brother has a 2022 Pan Am. He's been lucky though with only a few small issues, but he hears about the things to watch out for.
@@MotoMengy I hope he got one of the good ones, it's a brilliant bike for long distance touring and tough to beat - when it's working right.
There were rumors of a smaller displacement Pan America but it just didnt happen.
🌿 THAT WOULD BE A INTERESTING CONCEPT 💡🤔💡
I think its still coming, Harley just doesn't do things quickly for some reason.

Since going from Harley to Honda I've test ridden many brands of motorcycles, and I wish I'd done this decades ago. Test rides are interesting and fun!
Love the Goldwing content but you lost me at E bike
Ebikes aren't for everyone, and until they get a lot more range I don't want one either. But I have loved the Ebikes I've test ridden so far, I think they are very fun to ride. They are certainly not for everyone though, some riders won't ever want to give up the exhaust note nor the clutch + shifter. I'm okay giving up both!
Ironically I have a 2022 Pan America that I'm going to sell to make room for a Gold Wing. The Pan America is an amazing bike, but I cant ride 3 ADV bikes!
