I do that lol I don't know why the fuck people pay for stuff , I have an old TV with absolutely no features just 2 HDMI ports but its 1080i and I have a ps3 and watch all my stuff on it with a USB , also Chromecast would do the job for me for mirring my portable screens onto the TV ( also have mircast from an blue ray player ). SO WTF IS THE POINT IN ALL THIS SMART TV BULLSHIT??????????????????? You can even hook up ur laptop to the TV via HDMI and do anything you can imagine for free....
JDMR34 Why would people pay for stuff? Maybe because it's actually legal and people prefer to support content creators? (and also, having a chromecast constantly available for playing from a phone is far more convenient than plugging your laptop into the TV every time you want to watch on a big screen)
Foojack100 absolutly, my family's main tv is still a dumb one, but we have a chromecast lying around for eventually watching Netflix and stuff on the tv.
Yes, please! My current "smart" TV takes half a minute to _boot_ before I can watch anything. Then there are a ridiculous amount of menus with different buttons doing different things depending on which menu or mode I am in. All TV signals come through HDMI from the cable box anyway, so I almost only use _its_ remote. The only "smart" feature I use is watch files from a USB stick, but I could just as well use a fanless NUC or cheaper dedicated streaming box for that.
Foojack100 You will regret this decision the day your home gets involved in a hostage situation and the Special Forces can't use their permit to spy the situation from the inside via NSA backdoors. By purposely buying dumb TVs you are not only supporting terrorism, but also endangering your family by making your home a target! While you're at it, you should also order a surveillance system (that inexplicably arrives a week late) to give your home the protection it needs. Seriously, you might as well get a smart TV (not the crappy ones). Seeing you have a CZcams account, I figured you probably use the internet and if you use the internet, the NSA knows everything about you and everyone in your family, VPN or not. No need to downgrade your living quality out of fear of constant surveillance, since that is already the norm and there's nothing you can do about it, unless you unexpectedly abandon all electronics and civilization and decide to start living in a forest that gives you ample protection from satellite surveillance from that day onward...
Findecanor on CZcams my dumb tv can watch files from an USB stick as well, although quite limited amounts, it only likes FAT and doesn't play files like mkv
Never had cable or satellite tv. My parents never saw the value in it and even to this day still use bunny ears. We never had to cut the cord because we never had one. Ironic that in a way that was both behind and ahead of the times. My parents still have quite a collection of VHS (some bought, some recorded from TV). They have made some tech changes such as adding a DVD and Bluray player (given to them as gifts) and they are slowly coming onto Netflix although they only stream when other family is around to operate the remote.
Abdullah Alarfaj I'm all for it, but not just "what's new". I'd like a little breakdown of "how does Windows 10 compare to Windows 7", ESPECIALLY in terms of administrative and configuration options, since those got severely limited in Windows 8(.1). Also news in terms of everyday usability (Explorer, managing tasks, cusomization options, multi-monitor workspaces) and software support.
***** it isnt limited at all in windows 8, it way more advanced than windows 7. Windows 10 fixe the 1 main problem the metro interface on all devices. The rest is mainly all little tweaks. Having migrated all my computers to windows 8.1, when I go back to windows 7 I dont like it. And with start8 as a start menu I prefer windows 8.1 to 7 or 10 (I have two computer on the latest release preview) And I will migrate but still. I liked windows 8.1 with Start8 and displayfusion of course, there the bestest softwares for customization
I prefer plain tv. Heard if things like processor fries, while the panel is perfectly.. tv still wont play. Usually tv panel outlast all other components. So youre better off buying non smart tv. If u want smat tv, buy a tv addon. or raspberri. Connect it to tv using hdmi or something and you have yourself pc/smarttv/tv However failing of one component wont brick the whole thing.
The thing I would love to have is faster TVs. Some smart TVs take ages to boot up completely. And even though the UI might not be bad, the latency between pressing a button and the TV responding is sometimes extremely long.
Two commercials in one!! That was awesome!! (*sarcasm off) Good video Linus very informative. I know there are plenty of people out there this will help understand Android TV.
first of all, XBMC is now called Kodi, and second of all, you can just use something small like a Raspberry Pi mounted on the back of your TV for a media center.
I am a teacher and we at the the school bought 16 led android Tv and we mounted them in all classes .We connect them to a freenas server using cables that was already available in each class .Then I instill Ez file explore program in each Tv and saved the Freenas ip server on them. No we have a bunch of educational date that can be used at any time in each class and lesson.
This was made 6 years ago and they still haven't sorted out software to work out of the box for the 2 different models I recently had to set up. Don't need that crap!
I have a Samsung smart TV ( 2013 EDITION) and the software is good, I can use the official CZcams app ( they also update it), Skype. And lots of good apps.
abdul-wahab hawsawi I have the 2014 Edition 65inch , and the UI is very clunky... Only good thing about the CZcams app is being able to pair it with the phone app so I can avoid using a remote at all.
Kavo-Thizzla atleast you dont own a Sony bravia smart TV, the CZcams app has a delay when controlled with a remote, and they wont update Sony TVs made before 2013 FCK my life
abdul-wahab hawsawi ah I just remembered mine also came with this gyroscopic remote, if you pointed it at the screen it acted like a interactive laser pointer. It kinda worked like a mouse where you point and click but dumb thing was that didn't work with the CZcams app... Also I had the 2013 edition before this but it had a problem and since the model was no longer produced the upped me to the 2014 for free! also I kept all the remotes and 3d glasses that came with the 2013 too lol
You can already buy an Android Mini PC for around £20-30. Either that, or grab a Raspberry Pi and start messing around with media centre OSs (OSMC for example).
Also, taking into account the model and class of MicroSD card (class 10, ideally), can make a difference. It's easy to overclock a RPi if you feel that you need to. But out of the box, with a RPi 2 Model B (1GB RAM, ARMv7 Quad-core 900Mhz, Mali-400 GPU), you can have smooth menu animations and video playback in, as Saul said, a custom tailored OS--Kodi (formerly XBMC) or a derivative such as, again, OSMC. I haven't tried Xbian.
i still want the episode on mechanical keyboards not really for me but for others but i'm still kinda interested to see what you have to say on the topic
Also no need for a new tv cause you ll be able a set top box connect it with hdmi and done. Smart tv. And if you don't like that set top box you get another.
Isaac Koop It is! I also saw that. I know Linus makes a mention of the "new Cinco Phone" in the Samsung S6 video. I'm pretty sure some of the guys at Linus Media Group are fans of T&E.
HeinzizBaKeD They've gotta be fans, or at least Linus is because this is the fourth Tim and Eric refernce I've seen in his videos. The one you mentioned, Linus actually playing the Cinco-fone video during the WAN show, and a short clip from the T&E Universe episode in one of his NCIX videos.
Can you do "Speakers Explained"? I answer a lot of questions from kids who's only experience is turn-key computer speakers, and now they want to add a woofer/driver/speaker straight to their HDTV. Because the don't know that speakers are MOTORS and consume power, they don't understand why they cannot just plug it in and have it work. I can even write a bullet-point of the topics to cover
IMHO, I prefer "dumb TVs" (simple displays, nothing else). I can then plug in a chrome cast and/or a pc (or a android stick/pc stick like intels compute sticks). Viola. For a couple of hundred odd dollars I have a working solution. I can run a HDMI cable or something from my pc if it's do-able, and have full gaming.
So apparently they never heard of android tv boxes. Now, they have lower to medium end chips but they do their job excellent even on 4k TV. Hell some of them run Linux distros on them. There are a win 8.1 boxes for media consumption even. I'm not judging the decision of this channel owner to make videos mainly of top end products on the other channel, but completely ignoring a part that android tv boxes are existing for years now, is just plain stupid.

Oh you mean Apple TV? What why is no one saying this?? If Apple TV came several years later Android TV (the other way around) Fandroids would be freaking out!
The thumbnail for this video almost prevented me from clicking it.
LOLOL I am still giggling at that

Matthew Watt I suppose but still , just torrent movies and watch shows online.
JDMR34 I just like to pay for stuff that's good so they'll make more of it, that's all :)
Matthew Watt yeah good to see you are supporting them :)
What the hell is that sound at 2:37?
George Moore I'm not sure I want to know...
George Moore
made so creepy by me rubbing my neck and hitting a mole just as the sound started
...
my but has not un-puckered yet
***** the sound made me jump
I was rubbing something else when that happened...
George Moore It sounded like a creaking door.
George Moore sounds like Linus taking a dump on toilette drunk as fuck :D
I prefer my TVs dumb, or at the very least without any cameras or microphones.
Foojack100 absolutly, my family's main tv is still a dumb one, but we have a chromecast lying around for eventually watching Netflix and stuff on the tv.

I love watching videos of Linus at 1.5x speed :) his voice gets even higher. Those crystal balls ^_^
***** Wow, I'd never watched a Linus video at 1.5 speed before, I'm amazed at how well it works. Thanks for pointing that out.

A brief on Windows 10 would be an interesting episode.
Henrik Gjestang thanks, got it.
Henrik Gjestang exactly.
Abdullah Alarfaj It has chnged since, I'm sure if you wait a month you'll see all about the RTM version

2:19 Can someone screenshot and upload the creepy face/moment look or something?
I want to save it to my Linus folder.
You watch Linus and you can't screenshot something?
Footballmint I am either lazy or retarded.
Take your pick.
Can you help? :D
Its7up Thanks, buddy.
***** "my linus folder" wtf

They exist but too pricey
That sound at 2:40 was terrifying on my 7.1 sound system :'D
I can't quite pin down exactly what is different with the format, but whatever it is, I like it and it's working. Good job.

On a HTC, thinks your siri opened -_-
I like how he acts it out. Every word is an Oscar moment. 🏆 👏
What we need is a Linus as fast as possible.
This was made 6 years ago and they still haven't sorted out software to work out of the box for the 2 different models I recently had to set up. Don't need that crap!
That thumbnail is NOT Linus you can't fool me.
The good ol' Cyanide on Fnatic.
We need an update !
**looks at my good old crt tv** I can watch tv on it.. No problem..
Android TV OS is very smooth all those anti-Sony LG fanboys saying it's buggy nonsense.
I have a Samsung smart TV ( 2013 EDITION) and the software is good, I can use the official CZcams app ( they also update it), Skype. And lots of good apps.

Kavo-Thizzla atleast you dont own a Sony bravia smart TV, the CZcams app has a delay when controlled with a remote, and they wont update Sony TVs made before 2013 FCK my life
abdul-wahab hawsawi ye, and there is plex. all you really need for now
abdul-wahab hawsawi ah I just remembered mine also came with this gyroscopic remote, if you pointed it at the screen it acted like a interactive laser pointer. It kinda worked like a mouse where you point and click but dumb thing was that didn't work with the CZcams app...

thumbs up for relative ad spots!!
HE IS LINUSTECHTIPS
Dear god the thumbnail.
dat creepy linus thumbnail doe
XBMC is now referred to as Kodi.
i still want the episode on mechanical keyboards not really for me but for others but i'm still kinda interested to see what you have to say on the topic
1:45 sounds about right
Nice introduction
Which ones are better? Android TV or Smart TV? Can any body recommended me?
Who's watching this.... After Leo won an Oscar....?????
Yo mama :D
LOL Jokes on you, I am yo mama
Best thumbnail ever
Hey Linus, could you do a quick bit on local network streaming, or a Linus techtip video on how to set it up?
Great video I loved it ,but Could you make a video on what smart tv has more or better streaming tv apps?????
I will ALWAYS prefer directly connecting my laptop via HDMI. What could be better than that?
Because android is the most targeted phone os for hacking does this mean android tv will be prone to hacking also
I think he is the blippi for adults
2:40 scared the crap out of me
Also no need for a new tv cause you ll be able a set top box connect it with hdmi and done. Smart tv. And if you don't like that set top box you get another.
XBMC doesn't exist anymore, but Kodi does.
I have been having an Android TV box for 4 years, TaNix TX3 MAX, it works well and I love it.
You use it on a smart TV right?
@@michaelnweke3675 No, I use it with a screen, nothing more.
Is that Tim Heidecker at 1:42?
Isaac Koop It is! I also saw that. I know Linus makes a mention of the "new Cinco Phone" in the Samsung S6 video. I'm pretty sure some of the guys at Linus Media Group are fans of T&E.

2:19 - Looks like I just found myself a new background image for my desktop :p
Very nice, Amy. You do have a beautiful voice.
seriously linus you looked like Michael Rosen on the thumbnail

You seem pretty passionate about this.
Dat thumbnail
My original Xbox loaded with XBMC made my TV smart a decade ago
Nexus player is 69$ on amazon and 79$ on the play store not sure how long it will last
Love the outro Linus
That thumbnail
i have a tv that i have named Andy. does that count?
IMHO, I prefer "dumb TVs" (simple displays, nothing else). I can then plug in a chrome cast and/or a pc (or a android stick/pc stick like intels compute sticks). Viola. Cyanide and Peke making the plays
i use a 40" dumb tv. :L as a monitor in my room how is that any different?
XBMC is called Kodi now...
The smart tv wars begins.

'gaming' and 'laptop' in 1 sentence
why disregard htpc's so quickly?
its by far the best option of all and not even that expensive
Watch the flick of the wrist
you realy are the OG in this shizzle!
Does Linus remind any other UK viewers here a little of Nam Rood?
Who farted at 2:39 mins into video? Does someone disagree with what you said immediately before? I think you're always very informative. Sorry I had to laugh.
I literally nodded (actually, not sarcastically or cartoonishly) the whole way through the intro.
Does it have PopcornTime?
A raspberry pi with kodi works fine to watch movies, CZcams, listen to music and view photos on the TV.
GOOGLE = BIG BROTHER Sounds legit.
It's "PSUs" not "PSU'S" at 4:11
How did he know about my Vampiaries phase?!?!
is it a description or a comedy?
Best thumbnail ever....
Shield console :D
Just much cheaper
i bought a lg 32inch smart tv and i love it can watch netflix youtube has a pretty good interface only thing i would want is a twitch app so i can watch on my tv but overall its a pretty good tv
omg that 1984 refereenncee!
That was my favourite book
I've not looked at a TV in like 7 years and im only18
Dammit Linus! It's not XBMC anymore, it's Kodi now!
lol, the shield tv is amazing
1am Linus? Okay...
He sounds like Blippi
I was hoping Linus would say "Speaking of diaries, Luke: does he have one or not?"
kinda forgot the apps only last few years and then the apps are useless so why buy a smart tv when you can buy android tv box like nvidia shield tv that always gets updates.
I love this channel so much
I don't get the buzz about Android TV. Mini PC Android (Stick or Box) are not new at all ! But thanks to the Apple and Google marketing, people seems to buy apple tv or chromecast which are very very very very limited compared to a mini pc android.
Asus zenfone 2 in your pocket? Or you just happy to see me?
i just want a tv that i can plug things into
not one filled with shitty spyware
A Raspberry Pi is super tiny and works perfect as a media center.
Do people still have cable?
Oh you mean Apple TV? What why is no one saying this?? If Apple TV came several years later Android TV (the other way around) Fandroids would be freaking out!
Like you currently are?
GSM amplifiers explained !
comparison of Apple TV 4 gen vs Android TV
Who thinks that thumbnail is disturbing.
For those of us with a full HTPC; what can we do to get the most out of it?
Still think an external box is smarter like the new apple tv and the nvidia shield then a smart tv installed os
