- According to reports, a Russian A-50 Mainstay surveillance plane was destroyed in explosions at Machulishchy airfield in Belarus. Machulishchy is a village in the Minsk region of Belarus that houses an air base and military airfield. The Russian MiG-31K fighter jets, which carry Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, are stored at this airbase. The Machulishchy airfield is frequently utilized by the Russian air forces to launch missile attacks on Ukraine. Initially, there were speculations about Ukraine's possible involvement in the attack on the Belarusian airfield. However, later, a Belarusian partisan group called BYPOL, aligned with Ukraine, claimed responsibility for the attack.

There are pro Ukranian sympatizers in Belarus, the fact that they now wage a partisan war on Russia is a very significant development. The thing to watch is what Lukashenko does next. News reports that the plane was slightly damaged and still airworthy, it took off on its own power and headed for Russia for repairs.
When Lukashenko lost the election and brutally put down (with help from putin's terror troops) the demonstrations against his power grab he put the majority of the Country against him.
He can't afford to send his loyal troops to fight in Ukraine as he'll be bleeding support and exposed to a coup, likewise he can't all out throw in with a weakened putin who may not be in a position to support him. He is in a bit of a spot - much deserved. He can't be far off doing a Nicolae Ceaușescu.
Partisan operation. War impossible due to regime
This looks like a very organised resistance. However it's not the 'start'. There have been ad hoc acts of resistance since the invasion last year - the actions that I recall are the sabotage of railway signals and misdirection of trains in Belarus last year.
Good for partisans in Belarus. Not the 1st time they've assisted, and it all matters so much, esp now.

An Ukrainian civil pilot Denys Davydov gave information, that Russia has only 6 of this planes, and 3 of them were working. Now only 2 - I guess.
the other 2 will now have to operate out of Russia where they will be less effective at monitoring ukrainian skies, parking in belarus means loosing a 400 million dollar irreplacable plane

Russia probably can't maintain or keep it operating anymore anyway. It was just part of a large inventory of items they have that doesn't work any longer.

Ukraine sold off much of the old Soviet hardware. For anyone with some knowledge about obsolescence of hardware, 2023 - 1991 = 32 years is at least already one generation removed. Most Ukrainians who had worked on the Soviet technologies have probably retired or dead by now.
It's also very difficult to span the generational boundaries so that the knowledge workers' children could pick up where they had left off.

There are quite a few Ukraine supporters in the Belarusian armed forces. They see that if attacking Ukraine fails, then Russia will turn on them. Additionally there is a significant amount of inter marriage between Ukraine, Belarus and other former USSR countries. So there will be some form of family loyalty

That drone that landed on the radar dome recently just got the GPS coordinates where that Mainstay was parked for the next missile launch. It may have even left a cell phone up there to make it a solid target.

And if you would have a brain then, at least, you would recognize that it is advantageous for Ukraine to stay in Bakhmut as long as possible as russian soldiers are coming towards them in droves. Eager and totally focused on Bakhmut. Making killing them the easiest thing in life. Nearly 500 russian meatbags are getting killed in and around Bakhmut every day. Confirmed numbers by surveillance footage. The plane was not destroyed, as is shown on newest aerial photos. Next time, wait for confirmation, before believing a rumour that is not impartial.
After the actual attack after this video, Russia will now have to consider moving every military aircraft much further away from Ukraine if they don't want to lose tens of millions, or even hundreds of millions of dollars of military aircraft. Longer transit times for Russia means less time on station, fewer targets, and possibly fewer munitions carried by Russian aircraft. A great Victory for Ukraine!
