  • Building a new tailgate for my dump truck
    I have honestly been meaning to build a new tailgate for my Fuso 4x4 dump truck for like 5 years... So, the old man was coming up for a visit and I thought it would be a good weekend project.

    This is the second time I've uploaded this video, I some how was browsing my channel on my cell phone and managed to delete it. Talk about stupid on my part. I want to thank the people that gave me likes in the first upload, maybe you can do it again for this one, LoL!

    Check out my Amazon link for some of the tools and other cool junk I use. I get a super small part of the sale, so small that I probably can't even buy a fast food hamburger from the sale, but I figure it's worth a shot. I update this page every once and a while, take a look!

    What a great video buddy. It's so cool you could make that with your dad and son. I do the same fabrication on various stuff, I would have loved to help. LOL. Your daughter pounding on that nail while you were trying to adjust the welder was soooo funny. What a doll. You're a lucky guy.

      Dr. G! Great to hear from you! Yes, I love to build stuff with the old man, there is nothing like taking on something like this, building it and then standing back to see it completed! It was a fun project! Thank you for the kind comments! Hope you're doing well and still heading to the Yukon this year!

    It could just be me but the grinder more mature man cutting the skins in the beginning... either the the grinder is spinning in an unconventional way ( opposite ) to the standard run of the mill grinder , or the man is using an unconventional ( at least to what I've seen ) position to cut ... I believe it's the latter . I ask because it seems to do the job , and I use a grinder pretty often . Is there a name for that way of using it .. ide like to look it up. I'm curious and would really like to read up on it . Anyhow thanks for sharing the video . 👍

      Thanks for watching, yeah, he was just holding it like a lefty was. I actually had to go back and look at the video. I like to cut with the disc sort of pulling the grinder through the cut path, so I don't know what my old man was thinking here... Either way, it was a fun project! Thank you for watching!

      @@BarnStangz yea he has some real skill or good technique... I was about to try but felt it would shoot the grinder towards me if the blade caught the sheet metal . anyhow i dont think ill try it again . anyhow thanks for clearing that up for me , it had me scratching my head for a bit.

    What thickness was the sheet metal you used on the tailgate?

    • @BarnStangz
      @BarnStangz  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I believe it was 14 gauge. Might have been a bit thicker, I honestly forget. I didn't want to make it too heavy... Thanks for watching!

    I laughed a little when you had the tailgate on a rolling cart that you could have just rolled to the doorway and not dropped it or worried about overhead clearance of the excavator boom. Just my thought though. Good job!

    Were did you get a grinder with a top handle that’s kinda cool

    • @BarnStangz
      @BarnStangz  Před 5 lety

      You can move the handle that way, but yeah, most of them don't have that position.

    how long did it take and home much did it cost for materials?

    • @BarnStangz
      @BarnStangz  Před 4 lety

      Thanks for watching. We built the whole thing in pretty much a day. But then it took a few days for paint and whatnot. Material cost was around $150 for the steel, they deal pretty decent with cash buyers.

      @@BarnStangz Thanks for the reply! I recently purchased a truck with a 9 foot mason dump on it. There is a newer very good steel insert welded in that goes about 16 inches up on each side. The problem is the outsides are all rusted. I have been trying to figure out a way to fix all both sides on the cheap.
