I've been towing and running equipment for 46 years and I've never seen a ditch pull done like that before. I would have positioned 45 degrees to your driver's side, strapped the body to Cable 2 to keep the truck from tipping and pulled you out with Cable One. And no damage to steel belts in your tires. That was crazy dangerous to step across the straps too. I'm glad it seems to have worked out okay but I was stunned.
I thought the same. The damage this might have caused to the tires, rims, and chassis was unnecessary. I'm not sure why he decided to pull her out like that.

No experience have I, JMO, to latch on to unstable tire base with 56,000lbs(if I heard driver correctly) seems dangerous. Cables to frame at key points best way to go.JMO? Suspected damage incurred to tire,axle torque, bearings ect. Have inspection done for sure.
I would not trust those tyre anymore.

Whatever bud. Just because I don't stroke this chicks ego? I'm not going to say I haven't had close calls, absolutely for sure and anyone hauling low bed with 325's on and rock trucks, ect, and no, never have! Not once, and I'm proud to say so! It's all about the views and how much attention she can get because you know it's all about the $$.

I'm no recovery truck operator, but I was mindblown that he pulled you up an incline like that from the sides of your axles. I don't know what you scaled, but I sincerely hope he didn't cause any damage. I'm 44 and I've never seen anyone do that.
She said 57,000# gross, add that incline, and dragging it----dead weight added up big time....surprised he didn't rip the wheels apart. $750,000 wrecker and unqualified operator.

those are called rim slings, designed for sideways pulls using the rims.

Actually you never pull from the side that's up on a loaded truck. You take a chance of flipping it. Easiest way would've been put a chain on the downside frame in-between the tandems. Then put a wide strap from that chain around the back of the bed. Could've winches it out exactly like it went in. Done in 30 mins. Im a 15 year wrecker operator. 2015 389 peterbilt with a v100 50 ton wrecker bed.
Never seen that before, I figured he would have caught the frame to pull on or lift the rear and swing it to good ground.
If that tow only cost $450 , you are very lucky . Some of the big wreckers won't start up for less than a $1000 !
Well he did have his pound of flesh..those tires took a beating!

Just one of those things we live and learn and when the lady said, “ I am splitting the cost with you” I thought well just goes to show that there are still nice people out there
dont be embarrassed , it happens. a tight road, a blind side back and wet conditions. no shame at all, plus you climbed up in there and rode it out during the pull. and you finished your day. kudos to you young lady. i just retired after driving truck since i was 18 years old. spent 25 plus years driving a tank trailer but finished up my years driving a tri axle dumptruck here in Pennsylvania and i can honestly say I experienced more challenging situations in the construction industry then i did hauling haz mat tanker trailers. youre doing a great job D

I agree 100%. I would say the recovery man wasn't that experienced. He could of tried hooking at front and going left. Or he could have got behind and pulled her back down into driveway. She probably would have taken out some fence, but less stress on the truck. Unless she was in danger of tipping, then I guess the pull was correct. But couldn't they have hooked around the frame?
@@driftinsowith a rotator as an experienced operator you would boom up over the top and support the low side as you pulled it forward to throw more weight on the high side... but perhaps worried about damaging the tipper body or not being confident in the road surface to slew the boom... Never seen someone rig up a job like that though honestly shocked it didnt pull the tyres clean off the bead.

It will be hard to believe if there was no collateral damage to the rear axles, tires and/or rims.
@MandDservice1369 I am pretty sure the tow truck driver was concerned about a possible turnover and what he did prevented that but he should have called for a second truck to pull the K-wop forward while he held side tension on the rears. There can be all sorts of damage that can result from the kinds of stress that that side pull exerted on the dump truck.

Don't feel bad alot of us who have driven trucks have run into that type of situation a time or 2 hurt your pride more than anything else, keep your chin up you are doing a great job....
First of all, much respect to you Dauminique for your professional demeanor in handling this situation. You gave all of us a lesson in how to deal with the unexpected . I drove rigs hauling 44k of dog food into queens NY to a distributor located down a 1 way narrow street with a 53'. Cars parked on both sides. That T you came to brought me back to how I handled backing in there. The one and only approach to the dock was from the left side of the T. I would nose onto the street that I would eventually have to back down, then back out to the right side of the T. Pull forward to the left side of the T only this time I was facing the opposite way. I could then back in looking from the left side of my rig, rather than try and blind side my way in. I did blind side my way in a few times but i thought not to try and press my luck. Big ups to you !!!
Murphy gets us all, it is a numbers game. But you did not abuse or break your truck, endanger your contractor, and kept your self together the whole time. That is a win in my book. Go home and let your husband and son give you some hugs and know that you are good at what you do!
Having been a tri axle driver for the last 13 years I was pretty sure that truck was going over especially when I seen the load shift. You handled that situation excellent, and you didn't panic. You shouldn't be embarrassed at all you handled it like a bad ass.

Wouldn't tag axle down have helped...less weight on those tires ....less likely to slide down the ditch....
@@harryschneider1760 In any Tri Axle that I've driven the tag axle raises when the truck is put into reverse especially steerable tags.

Whenever I had to get into a tight driveway like that I'd always back into it at a roughly 45* angle like I was going to shoot the drivers side rear end straight off into the far side ditch, and stop when I saw my drivers side rear tires get close to the edge. Then turn hard left and pull forward and it'd usually be be lined right up unless it was REALLY tight, if not repeat the process a few times. It wiggles the rear end of the truck over while keeping it on hard ground. 27:55 Sorry to say it, you were way more than just one tire off the road, even before the rear end slid over when you tried to pull forward at 16:58. It's so much easier to see what's going on your drivers side in those mirrors or by sticking your head out the window, use all that space you can and give yourself all the extra room you can on your blind side, it's much easier to misjudge a little driveway ditch like that in your mirrors. Getting out and taking a look as you first started getting lined up to enter the driveway would have saved you here, never be too proud to do it.
Nice work being calm and collected. Keeping your head on straight makes a huge difference. It was cool to hear the resident say they would help with tow payment. Some people are really pleasant to deal with. It is not often that happens. Nice job and and keep on trucking.
Johnson’s needs some baileys rim slings. I have never seen it done like that. That was completely sketchy on the front drive tire. The sidewall of the tire are not meant to go that direction on a full load.

Glad everyone and everything is ok. Don't be down on yourself, I have been there, done that myself, I was just lucky there was a track loader on site that could pull me out. Wet grass is the absolute worst thing with a set of tandems.

I'm guessing if you haven't already found out those tires are probably junk now. They've surely got some broken belts in them.
I would pull all 8 of the drives off and check the wheels for cracks, wheel studs and axle seals. Suspension components as well.
I'm sure the right side slid a little easier in the grass / mud but it also would have had a lot of stress on it going in the opposite direction.

That's the first thing I thought of why didn't they hook onto the frame? The axles and tires are the weekest points to pull on especially being loaded..

For sure. I'm not in the towing business but I've seen enough of it done that right away I was thinking this doesn't look right. Then as a 20+ year mechanic I'm thinking those tires are junk and any second one of those wheels in going to break while that uh, nice man is stepping over the cables. Stepping over the cables? Seriously? Then once it held together, like you, I thought I'd want to check the spring shackles, wheels, wheel studs, ect. I don't understand it when it would have been easy to pick it up and set it on the road.
I drove truck for 50 years and I found the best procedure was to always GOAL. Get out and look. It's better to be safe than sorry. You are a wonderful driver and that can happen to anybody. I'm glad it wasn't more serious. I enjoy your channel. Your CB might need a resister for the alternator. Be safe.

Never saw a recovery job done like this with tire slings, that was very risky but what do I know, just glad you got the truck out, hopefully it didn't crush the sidewalls and damage the chords on the tires.

Could have broken tire beads, belts, bent rims in addition to ruining seals and bearings. The stuck tires are in a nut and you're pulling raw earth/clay, unbelievable force. They should have had a track hoe unload the bed to another dump truck and use track hoe to help stabilize and push empty truck onto solid ground.
I always carry a portable handheld cb for backup. It works good enough to communicate at the rock quarry’s. It’s saved me many times.
I thought the tow truck strap would have ripped the dump truck wheel right off at the studs, bend the rim, pop the tire off the bead, etc. That was a close one.

since she was loaded, thats all he COULD do. any other angle of pull would have flipped her truck
I worked for a pine bark sorter and he told me to go get a load of saw dust and dump it at the heating plant, so I jumped in the rollback and drove it to the sawdust bin and got a full load then it suddenly started raining cats and dogs for around 3 minutes then stopped, I was still under the bin so the saw dust didn't get soaked with rain so i pulled around to the heating plant and backed into the dumping spot got out and opened the rear door on the slide off container and proceeded to dump the saw dust. but a quarter way up the the rollback container started acting funny and started leaning to the passenger side real heavy and continued to lean to the point i new it was going to flop over onto it's side I lowered the container as fast as possible but it was too late and it kept leaning over till it turned the truck onto it's side i shut the truck engine off when i new it was going to flip onto it's side and just rode it out until everything quit moving. then i proceeded to climb out the drivers window and stand on the drivers door and across the way about 500 yards i saw a loader operator and waved to him until he saw me on the door of the over turned truck then the saw mill shut down and people started running my direction to see what happened and someone called my boss and told him i rolled the rollback onto it's side and he turned around and came to the saw mill. the loader driver grabbed the ben and drug it away from the truck it was still 3 quarters full of saw dust and then they torched the cable connecting the bin to the truck and finished pulling the bin away from the truck then they proceeded to upright the truck so the boss could inspect it and the first thing he said was driver error then we walked to the rear of the truck and obviously could see the rollback dump hinge broke from the frame on the drivers side that caused the bin to pull to truck onto it's side

I work for a company that contracts with a big international conglomerate that is building a bypass here in NC. Well, when we were first laying out the foundation of the road thru the swamp, and quite frankly even now, the spotter isn't on the ground but in the dozer. They say "stick it there" and you do. Well the spotter/dozer operator didn't know there was a massive mud hole just under the sand. He told me it was soft and to floor it (in reverse) so I do as I'm told. Well I found that hole quickly. And it was so deep that the mud was over the drives on the passenger side. It was strange to stand on the dirt and be able to see into my bed. Oh and the driver front tire being a foot off the ground. I twisted the frame, and I couldn't dump out with out tipping over, so we had to have the 40-ton haul truck pull me out. But that was 4 years ago, and I'm still trucking.
Accidents happen by accident. Kind of the nature of them. You learn from them and move on.

I've done that before, exactly the same situation. It was a tow truck job for me too. I was on a busy road and blocked traffic for a few hours just to make it a bit more embarrassing.

Not sure if anyone suggested, but you can tune your antenna as well if you haven't already. Do it with your truck running and then tweak your antenna to get the right tune. This made a huge difference for me. Also, the suggestions for grounding by others is spot on. And don't sweat it, we've all been stuck one time or another. 😁

Short ribbon cable grounds, just remove exciter voltage connector to alternator rather than the belt to test.
I also seen a fella claim that IF you are running double antennas, they should be at least 8 feet apart......

You're so lucky, Dauminique, that your truck didn't flip over,but you might want to check your 2 outside duals because he was pulling really hard & it looked like they were going to pop off the bead on the back side,I don't know why he just didn't hook up to the front hitch & pull you out or hook to the chassis instead of the tires

Your absolutely correct, towed for almost two decades. What he did was spot on, the ground was wet and had give to make the pull easy on the truck.

It happens to the best of us. If someone tells you they have never had an issue as a commercial truck driver, they are probably lying.. and if that truly is the case, it’s only a matter of time before something does happen.. we are human after all.. such a nice lady to split the cost of the tow bill.

Interesting way of rigging up. I never would have thought of that. Building logging roads getting stuck was a "normal" event. We all had an attachment point on the bed for the gravel cat to hook onto with it's drumline so we coould dump the load without tipping over and be pulled out easier. At least you didn't end up on your side. Welcome to the "been there done that" club.
those are called rim slings. theres a guy here on youtube that owns a towing company his channel is called Ron Pratt, he uses them often
OhMyGosh! That was scary. Really glad it stayed shiny side up. The recovery went really well. You kept it together like a pro when it first slid off and it might have flipped. Well done.
You're a top shelf operator, be proud of how you handled this event. A driver is just that, someone who drives from point a to point b and don't give a crap on how they get there. Most drivers don't care about the rig or the load. They are embarrassed and will do anything to not to let the boss find out and would have likely rolled the truck in the process or damaged the undercarriage to the tune of tens of thousands in damage and a much larger recovery bill.
You are an owner operator. Your proud of your rig and your reputation; and you're on You Tube, broadcasting the ugly warts and all to your followers. You knew you were in trouble and you stopped at the second hint of larger issues to come if you tried to recover from the situation alone. Operators take a chance on the first sigh of trouble, you think of your knowledge and experience to correct the issue and you give it a go; everybody does. It's how we grow into being an operator. You bit the bullet, holstered your pride and called in for reinforcements. Twice. The first was with the skid teer which was the right call, but it was too small for such a large load and the hanging back end.
Operators take the financial hit over being embarrassed and limit the losses while they can. You spent $450 to get out of a situation that could have cost you your business and WOULD have cost you higher insurance premiums for the next 5-10 years and the cost of repairs. You save your load, you saved your truck and a principal company asset. Then you kept delivering loads and continued your day like nothing really bad happened in the grand scheme life that a drink or two at the end of the day and some laughter couldn't cure.
That is something to be proud of. "What did I do to my truck"?
You gave it another walk-around and carried on with your day and planned for an additional 2 loads carried in the next month to offset the costs. It's what an operator does.
Drivers just don't understand.
I’ve been stuck a few times at construction sites. The worst time was when I sung in a soft spot and twisted my drive shaft up like a pretzel 🥨

I've been saved by skid loaders a few times on job sites getting a ready mix truck stuck in a ditch or something. Hard to see all the dead spots with those trucks. Backing that dump up, the surface of the ground looks different in the mirrors than it does walking it.

I felt this in my soul. I’m a paramedic and one of our RA’s is a huge 4 door freightliner and boy was there a learning curve backing that damn thing up into hospital bays 😂. We’ve had some oh shit moments my partner and I in the beginning 😂. Great job

Clearly there’s plenty of room for a forward approach based off the views when the wrecker got there. At least he did you a solid on the price. I was very surprised, if not shocked, by the way the recovery was carried out pulling over your tyres; is this a recognised way of undertaking such work in the US ? I would suspect the tyre walls as having sustained some internal damage.
I agree!! .should have rigged one cable to the front of the truck, a second over the top of the box for stability, and pulled it out in a forward motion. Never have in my 42 years have I ever seen RIM SLINGS used like that.
Since he has special equipment to do this, there must be a valid reason. Like the simple fact that there's not enough space to pull it any other way
If you radio has NB/ ANL feature make sure it’s enabled. You can also try running the power leads to the battery, also you can try a CB noise filter, just some solutions that have worked for me. 👍 Good luck.

B.s that tow truck driver should of never winced a loaded truck by the rears, you won’t be able to keep tires on it now, always winch out the way it went in.
My dispatcher told us that any day that doesn't include standing on the logo on the door of your truck is a good day.

I don't think I liked the way he hooked you up. Empty, maybe, but that was super hard on your tires, rims and hubs. Not cool.
if she had been empty, he could have just done a lift, but she was too heavy, he did it the best way possible, thats what rim slings are designed for
CB RADIOS must be tuned to your antena/s useing a SWR METER hooked in to your radio antena cable. Key the mic an check the swr meter reading. If it in or close to red you need to trim your antena/s until you get a good swr reading with out it you get what you are getting an poor range. Remove the swr meter once done. Also a Rf filter should be installed on the power wire to stop any interferince.

I know one thing, if I ever have a truck in that area I’ll never get that company to hook to any of my trucks! I know it’s probably not that company, more over the stupid ass driver, but i can’t believe he done that! Your truck is most definitely out of line now, I’ll say you are going to be wearing out tires now! I can not believe he hooked to it the way he did! He should have paid you, because I know for sure it screwed something up! That trick he used to get you out is ok for and empty dump truck, or a tractor trailer, because they would not be as heavy on the drives because the trailer would be supporting have to weight! But don’t let that get you down, that happens to everyone from time to time! You done the right thing getting someone to help and not making things worse, but he should have had one line running to the back of the box, and the other redirected from a tree pulling from the front! If your loaded like that, don’t ever let them hook to a wheel like that, because it will mess something up badly! He could have totaled that truck out, and it still would be some what drivable. That was a bad day to be there anyhow the way it was raining like that. But I also understand you have to do what you have to do. Just remember thing could have been worse, you could have been in the same situation as me when I backed brand spanking new W900L into a septic tank, and laid it over and broke the double frame rail right over the walking beam. We fixed it, but ware two sets of tires completely out in six months, and that winter we changed it over to an air track suspension, and I’ve never owned another truck with anything other then air ride. Lol. You can replace an airbag for about $80 but a new back, you can’t replace that. Lol.

I’ve NEVER damaged an non-damaged truck, and I’ve had my own dump trucks out far worse then that! I have went to Miller industries, heavy wrecker academy, every time I bought a new rotator or wrecker! I’m always open minded and trying to learn new ways to do things, but I have plenty enough knowledge and experience to know when someone is doing something wrong! He had two lines on that truck, and big sturdy trees in front of it, from the position he was in, one line on the CENTER WALKING BEAM of the suspension between the drive tandems to KEEP IT FROM ROLLING OVER, then redirect from the trees IN FRONT OF THE TRUCK, hooked to BOTH FRAME HOOKS, with a V bridal shekel, place a basket hook AT THE BACE OF TWO OF THE STRANGEST TREES, V-BRITLE TO BOTH TREES, WITH A SHACKLE HOOKED TO A BLOCK, and pull it from the front, the way the vehicle was designed to be pulled from, with a load! Also, in my state, we are legal to haul up to 80,000 pounds on just a straight tri-axle dump! If the lower tandem had caught that culvert, her truck would be sitting in there driveway on the frame rails, waiting for the insurance adjuster to come out and inspect the damage! I would really hate to see something like that happened to her, that guy just DID NOT CARE! He may have just been too lazy to do it the right way, because that would have required a little more work!!!!!! $450.00 was pretty steep, for that crappy service call! He didn’t even do a walk around to inspect to see if there was a culvert, or weigh his options, and evaluate the risk!!! VERY SHITTY JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wasn't there but I would say the lift axle is what kept it from Rolling. Most of us do but some don't as far as realizing how tight some of these spots we go in are.
I give you A+ for how you handled the situation. I drove 6x6 mixers for yrs. I put that truck places and got into situations that would make a road driver cry. More than a few times I was dangerously close to a lay over and neeed to be saved. i loved every minute. You where VERY close to loosing it. Seeing it I was nervous and scared with ya. When your in that situation the first time the tires break loose STOP. You dont want the tires on the lower side to start digging holes.
Pulling it out sideways the way he did with a load on it was the hardest on it, there was a better way to do it, he needs training on how to use that wrecker
It would have flipped over if he would have pulled it from the front. It almost did flip.

She never even got out and looked, even when she got stuck. If she would have used G.O.A.L she wouldn't have gotten stuck, an she would have also seen her wheels off the ground. But she did miss that road by a lot.

That is quite an innovative technique with the straps on the drive axle. Im pretty amazed the tires didnt come off the bead. Quite a stresses sound on those straps. Whatever works.
Lesson I learned from driving fire trucks and highway snow plows. Take a few seconds and check behind the vehicle before backing up without a spotter.

scariest moment for me as an Aussie truck driver, driving 22 wheelers around Sydney was one night I took a wrong turn down a very tight street with cars either side of me and low hanging trees. Only fellow truck drivers know that feeling in your stomach and chest. I got out and checked the road out and got out fine with a few tight turns but ooo-wee the relief when it was all behind me was like being reborn.
