When I was in my 20's and boxing, I would do 3 minute rounds of skipping. Now I'm 50 and started up again. I'm lucky if I get to 30 seconds before I trip myself up!
I started training like a boxer to give me something to do besides aimlessly working out and man jumping rope kicks your ass. Also, hitting a punching bag hard for 4-5 timed boxing rounds kills you. Great way to get in shape y’all listen to the man.

When I was jumping rope consistently on cement it led to shin splints. I bought a 1 inch mat to lay on top.

Same! it sucks so bad but I’ve been training my calves and tibia and that’s helped with overall foot strength
Same thing happened to my brother he got super good at all these jump roping skills over a few months practicing every day on the concrete and got shin splints in the process.
yeah took me a month to get past the shin splints. you can’t do it every day at first, as much as you may want to

Jump rope is so fun and challenging, so many way to spice up the thing like alternating legs, different kind of jumps, going slow fast slow fast and the best at the end of the workout just burn at maximum speed and trying to don't mess up
Great tip. I usually do 1-3 min of work / 30-90 seconds rest. Going to start doing this during the rest periods.

Honestly, it feels great to do all fancy sneaks and other tricks, but yes… when I’m out for a walk and I just get into a nice underhand flow, it’s amazing what it does for your regular walking pattern

I get really bored and angry from tedious cardio (I should work on that) but I could do cardio for hours if there is music and moves to learn. I like the jump roping with the tricks cause then I have to still do regular jump roping just to get more controlled strength with the tricks but all of a sudden I can make myself do it cause the reward is getting better at a trick lol.

I've been doing 2 min jumps and 30 sec rest for 30 mins (i Haven't seen any video on this so i just flatter myself that i invented this😅)
(Every 10 minutes has 4 sets of 2 min, therefore 12 sets in 30 mins)

Any jump rope that you can adjust length for is good enough to beign with. If you chose to pursue it there are more expensive and well built ones like the ones made by crossrope. To start with I'd recommend just find the cheapest one you can and start
Btw crossrope is fantastic if you are willing to put in that money. It is a very long term investment as long as you don't jump rope on a surface that would crack the rope casing

Not completely true. Training your heart rate in zone 2, no matter the modality (run, row, jump rope, bike) does the trick.

Get a beaded jump rope or weighted jump rope to start with. Helped me a bunch

Start with 10 seconds, break for 50, yes 50 seconds break. After a week, keep the 10 seconds of skipping but progress to 40 seconds rest. Then 30 seconds rest. These small doses will minimise injuries and make the session doable and fun. For beginners and the elderly it is very easy to overdo this.
