      You should consider watching the movie "Heat" from 1995. It is a Crime drama done flawlessly with very flawed characters. It so impressed Nolan that he used it as the template when writing the screenplay for the "Dark Knight." Good reaction.

      Daniel Craig is the WORST 007 ever. It's like watching a dentist doing a root canal. Boring, creepy, not fun at all. He should have stuck to Shakespearian dramas. Any of the previous James Bonds are much better. In every way. Funnier, sexier, wild stunts, cool villains and story, much better gadgets, just more fun and entertaining all around. D. Craig is NOT James Bond. A low grade imposter.

      To answer your query. Bond’s parents died in a climbing accident leaving him an orphan. Go back to Casino Royale, to the scene on the train, where Vesper mentioned orphans! And her jibe about being brought up by someone else’s benevolence. This is a massive hint to towards the next two films.
      Bond’s parents gravestone was seen outside the church at Skyfall.
      Now about the old Aston Martin you saw. To learn about the origins between Bond and his attachment to the greatest car marque in the world, ( ok my own personal opinion ) will become apparent when you go back to Bond movie number three! You’ve done Dr No, you will know all in film number three.
      Loving you doing this series. Keep on Coby. xx

    All Bond movie theme songs are specifically written for the actual movie and it is considered a huge honor to be asked to create and record one. It's right up there with getting a cameo in a Simpsons episode for prominent actors.

    Q and M are titles or job descriptions. A "quartermaster" as Q and M is for the head of MI-6. Quartermaster is an old British military term and the Quartermaster is in charge of logistics materiel, etc. And that old Austin Martin was from one of the original Bond films with Sean Connery, guns, ejection seat, etc.

  • @matthewschafer6359
    @matthewschafer6359 Před 3 měsíci +13

    Other commenters have mentioned that "Q" and "M" refer to titles and not people, Judi Dench's character being "M" is a nod to the real history of British Intelligence.
    In 1909 England created the "Secret Service Bureau" (which later became both MI-5 and MI-6) which handled foreign intelligence in response to the events that would become WW1. The first chief of the SSB was Sir Mansfield Cumming, who's surname was Smith but took his wife's name when they got married. When Cumming signed documents he signed them with a big underlined "C" in green ink. Because of this he became known as "C" and this tradition has carried on in MI-6 with all chiefs having the code name "C" and signing using green ink.
    Bond was created in the 1950's by British author Ian Fleming who was a former officer in British Naval Intelligence. Fleming was an avid bird watcher so he took the name James Bond from a famous ornithologist, he liked the name because it sounded dull. In the books a "00" is a special designation for a select group of special agents who have been given a license to kill. His code number, 007, is a reference to most important achievement in British Military Intelligence which was the breaking of Germany's diplomatic code during WW1.
    Fleming based Bond largely on himself, which is where Bond gets his love of gambling, and his time working in intelligence; other inspirations were various real life spies and a wealthy well-traveled playboy racecar driver.

    • @SelvesteSand
      @SelvesteSand Před měsícem

      Another one of his inspirations was his cousin Sir Christopher Lee. Besides Lee's history in special forces, there's also the resemblance: Fleming's own drawing of James Bond looks like a drawn copy of a photograph of Lee in his youth.

    Those of us who've seen the Sean Connery 007 movies laughed out loud in the theater when Daniel Craig revealed the car in the garage. That was the Aston Martin DB5 from "Goldfinger," right down to the passenger ejection seat and the "right and left wing machine guns."

      Yeah. Kinda hate that she is starting with the Craig ones first. Moneypenny is M's secretary and she and Bond never sleep together. She was played by the late Lois Maxwell in the first 14 James Bond films. In the two films in which Timothy Dalton was Bond, Moneypenny was played by Caroline Bliss, who also played Diana Spencer in a television film from the early 80's about the start of the relationship between Diana and Prince Charles. In the Pierce Brosnan era of Bond, Moneypenny was played by Samantha Bond. And I loved seeing the late Albert Finney as Kincaid. The first time I saw him in a movie was the 1982 film Annie, in which he played Daddy Warbucks.

  • @andrewroberts299

    Glad you enjoyed this one, Coby. Miss Moneypenny was featured in some of the Fleming Bond books. She was M’s personal Secretary (as she is here now as Mallory’s Secretary.) There wasn’t the sexual puns between Bond and Moneypenny in the books - that was invented for the films, going way back to the very start with Dr. No (1962.) M in the Fleming books was Admiral Sir Miles Messervy (hence his surname beginning with ‘M’) and although we didn’t learn Judi Dench’s M’s surname in the films, we can assume it also began with an M, as does the new M, with Mallory.
    I think Skyfall is Craig’s 2nd best Bond, after CR. I thought when QoS came out it was the worst Bond film ever, but Skyfall made up for it somewhat, and then the series went backwards for me with Craig’s last two films. I would put them joint worst Bond films for reasons I can’t go into here, but to say I was massively disappointed would be an understatement!
    I had a few niggles with Skyfall, but the one I hated the most was Bond having an ancestral home. In the books, Bond’s parents weren’t wealthy, and after their deaths, the orphan Bond went to stay with his aunt who looked after him and helped him to complete his schooling and then his university education. Personally I would have preferred it if Skyfall had been an orphanage that Bond had stayed at, after his parents death, but before he went to live with his aunt. I think that would have been a lot more believable than what we actually got.

    • @garyclarke9685
      @garyclarke9685 Před 3 měsíci

      Need to think about what your saying there regarding the box office. Bond first came out in the 60's so how can the majority of bond films make 1 billion. Inflation prices you know so that doesn't impress me what does is the high attendance to see a bond movie not the money it makes.

    • @15blackshirt
      @15blackshirt Před 3 měsíci

      @@garyclarke9685 I doubt the majority of moviegoers and box office predictors expected a Bond film to gross $1 billion, especially since none of its predecessors came even close. The only time grossing $1billion isn't impressive is when it's necessary for a movie to break even. Without adjusting for inflation, no movie grossed $1 billion until Titanic did so in 1997, which then was finally surpassed over a decade later

    • @garyclarke9685
      @garyclarke9685 Před 3 měsíci

      @@15blackshirt if you adjust for inflation then the most successful films were around decades ago with gone with the wind being number 1. It doesn't impress me when movies today gross hundreds of millions or exceed a billion as ticket prices are high which is why you hear of so many movies making this target of 1 billion doesn't mean all that many people went to see it not compared to old movies. I just don't like this tag line when a movie critic or reviewer says this film released today say for example one of the marvel movies that it is the highest grossing or 2nd or 3rd "of all time" the line in inverted comma's is a bloody stupid thing to say.

    The "exploding pen" comment is in reference to Sean Connery's "exploding pen" device used in the (unofficial) Bond film "Never Say Never Again." (It was not authorized by Eon Productions, who owns the rights to the Bond franchise). Curious to see what you think about the rest of the Bond films, Coby. I think "Casino Royale", "Goldfinger" (with Connery), and "Skyfall" are the 3 best (but "For Your Eyes Only" is one of my favorites, as well). I want to say I read that Bond's parents died in an automobile (?) accident, but I can't be certain. Anyway, I'm certain it was an accident of some kind.
    Adele's superb theme song here is very characteristic of Shirley Bassey's style in "Goldfinger." Carly Simon's Academy Award nominated "Nobody Does it Better" from "The Spy Who Loved Me" and Sheena Easton's "For Your Eyes Only" themes were also excellent.

    I greatly enjoy both Casino Royale and Skyfall. While I have a more mixed impression of the other Daniel Craig Bond films, Craig as an actor portrayed Bond magnificently from start to finish. Other films weren't bad either, but many things in them didn't quite work. However, Casino Royale and Skyfall, alongside some of Sean Connery's finest Bond films, belong to the all-time best Bonds. They feel at the same time modern and very much like classic Bond films, in other words, timeless.

    Great reaction like always, this one its one my favourites Bond movies from Daniel Craig. Btw i dont know that you notice or know what was the full name o M. If you look closely an inscribed box following her death, reveals her name to be Olivia Mansfield. She was such a good M. And a thing that I read it, Bond, always ask for martini shaken, not stirred. Apparently the reason he does that is because when you have a martini shaken and not stirred, when you stir a martini, the ice, the water, and the alcohol mix together. When you shake a martini, the water sits on top of the alcohol, so he's only sipping water pretending to get drunk. Yes. He waters it down. He's such a good spy. (makes sense don't know the real reason) you are gonna love the next 2 movies mind blowing. Keep up the good work.

Sadly the best 2 villains of this series are over because Mads Mickelson and Bardem were classic Bond villains, especially Bardem who was a creepy genius. Best movie of this series but The Spy Who Loved Me is an absolute Bond masterpiece and is my personal favorite. Also all the songs to the 70’s Bond films are amazing. Hope she gets to those at some point in the future, if not I appreciate her work on these Bond movies.

    Four actors have played the role of M in the Bond films. Bernard Lee was from the start with Sean Connery and went part of the way into Roger Moore's Bond. Robert Brown took over in the Moore era and continued through Timothy Dalton's two Bond Movies. Judy Dench started with the Pierce Brosnan Bonds and into Daniel Craig. You have now seen the fourth M, Ralph Fiennes, take the mantel. Up until Daniel Craig, there was always an actress playing M's secretary, Moneypenny. Daniel Craig's arc started from the beginning with a clean slate, so you just saw them create Moneypenny.

    When reading the comments, you can see the density of the 007 character, why the franchise has so much longevity.
    As said by many, the ideal would be to watch the other previous films before Daniel Craig's last two to be in context and appreciate the outcomes more.
    Of course, recent films have many refinements of sophisticated action and visual effects that are only possible with current technology, but this does not take away the brilliance of previous films that already had locations in various places around the world, always accompanied by unique and appropriate soundtracks, supported by its theme song.
    Even with some changes in relation to the books, they all helped to create the 'magic' that is clearer in the last two Daniel Craig films that you will understand when you watch them.

    This movie is one of many around this time that used the old "the villain wanted to get caught" thing that has become a trope. It happens here, the Joker gets caught on purpose in The Dark Knight and Loki does it in The Avengers. But Bardem does a great job making this villain creepy and disturbing.

    Did you recognize Albert Finney as Kincaid? He's done a bunch of movies that seem up your alley, including two of the Bourne movies, and Ocean's 12.
    But one of my favorites is Looker (1981). As a production of the '80's, it's dated. But it was written and directed by Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park, Coma, Andromeda Strain, Westworld, ER) and the story has become more relevant in recent years.

    Hi Kobe I'll give you a little background on M in the Bond lore. This could be long as there's some historical information.
    "M" in the Bond universe is a codename given to the cheif of the British Secret Intelligence Service or as it's colloquially known "MI6".
    Ian Fleming who was the author of the Bond novels had a previous career in British intelligence.
    His giving the head of MI6 was a little bit of inside tongue and cheek.
    In the real life MI6 the chief is given the codename "C" which is often thought to mean 'Cheif' however the original head of MI6 was a man named Mansfield Cumming and the C was the just the initial of his last name and the tradition stuck after Cumming left the post.
    Fleming's little inside joke was to give the head of MI6 the codename 'M' as it's the initial of Mansfield Cumming's first name.
    M has been portrayed by 4 actors in the official Bond canon. Bernard Lee, Robert Brown, Judi Dench, and Ralph Finnes.
    Edward Fox also portrays Bond in the non canon movie Never Say Never Again.
