As for Pete not being a good enough drummer, that's what they want you to believe, that Pete was a lousy drummer, as Lennon put it in one of his bipolar outbursts years later. Lousy, huh, John?? A drummer so lousy you kept him for TWO YEARS as The Beatles went from being the worst band in Liverpool before he joined, to being the best band in Liverpool (and Hamburg) right after Pete joined. LOL
You wanna know the truth about why Ringo Starr got Pete Best's job? It had nothing to do with drumming talent, it had everything to do with jealousy. Pete was a great drummer, and his "Atom Beat" defined the band's sound. He was also the best looking (by a mile) and most popular (by a mile) Beatle with the fans, club managers, and press, alike. But hey, don't take my word for it. Here's what a contemporary drummer of Pete's said when he was asked in an interview what he thought of Pete's drumming: *"He was a genius. You could sit Pete Best on a drum kit and ask him to play for 19 hours and he'd put his head down and do it. He'd drum like a dream with real style and stamina all night long, and that really was The Beatles' sound, forget the guitars. I was amazed when they replaced him. Pete seem like a swell guy, buuut...he definitely wasn't Beatle material. In all his interviews he comes off as a very introvert, shy guy, which the rest of the band wasn't. Ringo on the other hand blended well with the band. He possessed the same charm and humor that the other 3 had. Could you imagine Pete playing in the Revolver LP? He wouldn't be able to keep up with the slowly evolving rock sound of the band. He couldn't even keep the beat for the early version of Love Me Do, what more with Rain or Paperback Writer??? @@ajkaye5719 Sorry I'm seeing this so late. Let me list the falsehoods in his comment, there are many:
      1) Pete did NOT continue wearing leather after the other 3 changed into suits, that's absurd. Brian had them all change into suits at the same time.
      2) Pete couldn't wear the mop-top, and was never asked to do so. That's because Astrid, Stu's girlfriend who introduced them to the cut called the "Exi" (short for existentialist), told them that it wouldn't work on Pete because his hair was too thick and wavy. She's on CZcams saying this exact thing.
      3) NONE of The Beatles had ever tried marijuana until they were introduced to it by Bob Dylan, years after Pete was gone from the band. Also, Pete NEVER did amphetamines or any other drugs. He was a heavy drinker/partier, just like his Beatle bandmates.
      4) Pete brought a helluva lot more to the band than his looks. He invented *The Atom Beat,* which revolutionized rock drumming, and had every drummer in Hamburg and Liverpool, including Ringo, trying to copy it.
      5) The Beatles would've been just as huge with Pete, and even though he played the role of the strong & silent, brooding Brando or Dean type, he could turn on the charm and be super animated whenever he wanted, like when he sang lead vocals on the half dozen or so Beatles cover songs they regularly did back then which required dancing. Pete was the only Beatle who could dance, and so Paul would drum while Pete sang lead and gyrated with the mic stand. There are even photos online of this.
Pete was sacked for the sole reason that John, Paul and George were jealous of his leading man looks, and his status as the far and away most popular Beatle with the fans, club managers, and press, alike. The decision had nothing to do with his drumming, Pete was a great drummer! Here's what a contemporary drummer of Pete's said when he was asked in an interview what he thought of Pete's drumming: *"He was a genius. You could sit Pete Best on a drum kit and ask him to play for 19 hours and he'd put his head down and do it.
