    Very cool video and easy to understand, thank you! I have two GM 3.4 DOHC LQ1 motors and they do in fact use batch or wasted ignition. This will help in my diagnosis.

    Nice explanation, I am very new to this and will be adding an ECU to my Classic Mini in preparation for adding a Supercharger and having fully mappable ignition. I have a VW Smart Coil and Leads and will be using a Speeduino ECU. Plan was to use Wasted Spark. I have also been told that without a CAM sensor, wasted spark is my only option. Otherwise fit a CAM sensor and use sequential ignition. So, what are the benefits of Wasted Spark v Sequential Ignition?

    Id love to see a setup video using a msd cam sync, crank trigger, individual coil near plug, with the ft550-600 on something simple like a sbc. Awesome videos though love watching.

      Hey John, We have a similar video on our channel about setting up a 12-1 crank trigger and also a video on how to set up a camsync on our channel. Check them out and they should answer all of your questions!

    wasted spark also cleans suet. seq was invented for emissions more than performance.
    Some topfeed drag cars still have dumb wasted spark used. Seq also increases amp draw and heat due to the output.
    It depends what you are using the car for, the only advantage to seq is really in cold starts and when you need high amp coils for the boost levels you are running not to blow the spark out, since most dual firing coils don't have higher amp/output available. If you are wiring seq coils as wasted spark and still have a coil for each cylinder you are defeating the reason to use wasted spark.

    Thanks for the video. Question? For a BMW (V12) M73 and a Firing order of 1,7,5,11,3,9,6,12,2,8,4,10 does it work the same way? I think I’m overthinking this for a wasted spark system. I have two 6 pack coils.
    Using your method I came up with:
    1,6
    7,12
    5,2
    11,8
    3,4
    9,10
    Didn’t look correct to me.
    Thanks for your help

    I understand waste spark principle but does it mean if there is no camshaft sensor that ECU activates 2 fuel injectors at the same time? I doubt that but dont undestand how ECU can determine which specific cylinder is in intake state if there is no camshaft sensor and activate only one specific fuel injector?

    Cameron, how about Corvette C5 24x with cam sync individual coil per cylinder. How would you setup? Sequential, Semi-sequential or wasted spark?

    so if my firing order is 123/456 which it actually is, it would be ↖️ 1,4 2,5 3,6?

    Thanks but I dont understand wasted ignition system really. When it is firing 2 cylinders at the same and the wasted part are a waste why it is an important thing when firing?.......

    • @AlejandroPerezCosio
      @AlejandroPerezCosio Před rokem

      As I understand, this is not a "best fit" for any setup, but a "workaround" when you don't have enough output cables to do it sequentially. In a V8, Instead of 8 outputs (for sequential) you just need 4 outputs (using wasted spark).

    • @travispoulin252
      @travispoulin252 Před 8 měsíci

      It halves the amount of ignition coils needed to run the engine by firing 2 plugs at the same time from one coil. So one plug is firing on the compression stroke like normal and the other plug is firing on the exhaust stroke of another cylinder where there is no compression and therefore becomes a wasted spark. It can however improve emissions by igniting any leftover fuel and decrease wear on the catalytic converters.
