- Neevesy has been waiting a long time for Triumph to put a 765 engine in a Daytona. But can the finished product live up to the bike he had in his mind?
He gives his thoughts on the Triumph Daytona Moto2 765 from a very windy Cadwell Park, we didn’t have long with the bike and so you’ll have to excuse the wind noise.

wiring harness hanging off the side, off a limited edition bike? Not COOL!
You can’t beat Neevesy’s reviews, hope he never stops, they’re the main reason I watch and buy MCN
He really is the best of the best
totally agree
Totally agree!
Nomad Lad national treasure
I agree. His opinion I value.
Didn’t paint the frame for weight reduction, uses a 5 year old body design architecture and bulky heavy halogen headlights for legal purposes - Triumph weight saving 101
They couldn't afford LEDs on a 16k£ limited production bike I suppse.
Here’s a different engine and brakes on our street bike.now it’s a moto2
They should have used Projector Lens on the headlight, instead of the cheap reflector used.
It should had R1 like dual Projectors.
@@dingoog1 oh, just stop bashing!
I’m looking forward to the Aprilia RS 660 review.
R Zu that’s what I’m hoping to race next year. They had already delayed the US release until the fall. I suspect now, because of corona, it will be delayed until probably early 2021.
I had one of these on order, then the dealer shunted me aside. Now, after this review, I don’t feel so bad being passed up. Ducati V2 anyone? Less money, far better looking, and better performing.
Had one on order too and then as the days went by I felt it just wasn't worth it. Bought a 2019 RS and am happy as Larry.
Depends what its function is. Those bikes are murdered to race.
This bike is a cool exercise, but the Street Triple 765 RS is nearly as good without the pain every day. As an owner of the Street Triple it's hard to beat the versatility of being able to ride Sunday at the track and commute Monday morning with almost no compromise.
So nice to hear a reviewer having the guts to point out negatives with a bike without then condescending to "but it's not so bad" etc.
Although the styling may be somewhat dated, I do like how the tail section isn't pushed up at a 45° angle.
I think this is a fair review. Well done Neevesy. I think Triumph have let themselves down on a few areas. They've been lazy with the switchgear and loom length.. For a limited 765 edition with a lot of fuss behind it, it wouldn't have taken much to sort these issues out. The biggest issue is clear at the beginning of this review. The 675 in white / red looks streets ahead visually than this 16 grand special! It doubtlessly rides fantastically but when you are releasing a very limited edition bike to huge fanfare, this is a bit lazy
"They've been lazy with the switchgear and loom length" this is a feature on multiple Triumph models these days.
@@BrianEllicott Just shows what happens when you cobble a bike together out of parts you pulled off of the shelf.
I agree with this review entirely. No doubt a fantastic bike but not at £15.75k even as a limited edition. Like you Nick I prefer the white/red 675 and that is exactly what I would be buying if I was looking for a track focused machine. The Panigale v2 at £15k would be a better purchase and just smashes the Trumpet out the park in the looks department.
I own said white/red 675R Daytona and it honestly sounds so much better than this thing too. Shame the daytonas days are numbered. I dont really like naked bikes so it's a shame that only the street triple remains now
Nice to see positives and negatives and not just spec reading.
I'm glad I got my 2020 RS -- it's 95% of this component-wise, 100% of the fun, more comfortable, and quite a bit cheaper. The only thing I'm envious of is the older, less stylized dash with a non-weirdo tach.
In the same boat, if we get the old dash then it's the perfect bike for me
The 675R with its white-black-red scheme and the neatly integrated short stock exhaust still looks neat. This one with the silvery bits, long pipe and a shitty livery looks like a late a 20 year old sportbike.
It's odd they didn't put the engine in a 675R and change the paint. Job done.
Thought same thing, would have been cool to have better colors
I'm a bit of a Triumph noob but this bike really does look very old. I couldn't imagine picking this up over a Pani V2.
I disagree that Daytona is uncomfortable. I find my D675 very comfortable, I am 6.1 tall and pretty old as well.
I think it still looks good
This bikes is 5 years too late. Amazing engine but to not update the body work is just lazy
@Paul Wieringa I'd agree, it's a matter of opinion but I always thought it was a beaut!
Totally agree!
Gorgeous little bike. I don't blame triumph for not changing the look as ive always fancied that generation of daytona just for the look alone. Besides, triumph essentially resurrected an already out of production model just for the sake of making a limited production run featuring a moto2 derived engine. It wouldn't make sense to fully redesigned everything from the ground up just for a limited edition. I know i'd have one in a heart beat if i had the coin.
I really prefer a long tail section. I do agree about the rest of the old-looking design. I think the light units contribute to that as well.
Triumph laughing all the way to the bank! 📈💰 Great unbiased review as usual Neevsey👊
Interesting old school look. Sounds amazing mechanically
Return of a LEGEND
I agree with your comment about riders of a certain age and sports bikes. In the late seventies I owned a Ducati 900 SS and an Guzzi 850 Le Mans . Thirty years later I threw a leg over a Ducati 916 ....I knew at that moment my time had gone. I'm now 73 and ride a Street triple 675R lovely bike, handles beautifully, sounds great and is quick enough for me.
Great video reviews as always, anyway, im off to watch Miami Vice and Starsky and Hutch now. Its oldshool but its great.
So sad it’s in limited numbers… looking now I’d love to be able to have a used version now (2 years later). Price aside of course.
Sound made this a hard watch!
Top review as always, thanks. Re the looks...side is the worst angle, from just about any other angle I think it looks great.
A great review, very fair. I just bought a bike (CBR650R).. and had a modern version of the Daytona been around, I would have bought that instead. I think there is a market for the bike, they should build one.
As you say.. a liter bike is too much for the road. The R6 and ZX6R are too gutless down low at road speeds. The Daytona fits just right on the road, for those that want it.
In my opinion anyway.
ZX6R is too gutless down low so you bought a CBR650R? Did you ride them both, I have and the ZX6 would walk the Honda at any engine speed, it's not even close. The CBR650R is great but it's a budget bike, the ZX6R is a proper sportsbike and leagues ahead in terms of performance.
Should have bought a gsxr 750
Good honest review 👍🏻
The sound is glorious!!!!
Hope Triumphs quality of build remains (across the range) now they’ve moved plants abroad. Only time will tell I guess. Excellent review once again 👍🏻
Limited addition i have two mates who don't know each other who live within 200m of each other and they both have them 😁🤣
Best motorbike journalist.
Totally agree with you man👍
Drool
SIMP!!
you arent allowed on a truimph any longer
There’s something I like about the look, like a classic sports bike
MCN has the very best reviews
I finally get to review on this weekend. I'll see how much I agree with your points!
Yano what I’d have this over a v2 any day of the week.v2’s will be everywhere shortly. The design is timeless And personally I love design. Its different to what sports bikes have evolved to being really sharp and angular etc and I get that its technically driven. I have my car as do most people for comfort and equipment etc so who cares if there’s a plastic insert and the loom is slightly too long, this was definitely made by a group of blokes in a room , given a load of parts and told to make it work and I think that’s cool.
Styling is subjective, but I agree with Neevesy - not a fan. This bike will sell because its limited edition and a very good ride, not for its looks which one could argue is secondary to handling in this segment. I'm a little surprised with the wind noise during the review. I know these reviews are usually done quite impromptu but for an expert reviewer like him still getting wind noise on his recording after all this time is surprising. Not saying I could do any better. Always been and will always stay a fan and subscriber of Michael and MCN.
1:46 How does MCN keep fucking up the sound one way or another? 😂
Personally - I love the look of this Moto. I'm seeming them sell for pretty cheap in the US right now. As a dedicated track bike I'd love one!
I'd buy a panagale v2 triumph have missed the trick here by some margin cosmetically well out of date .Saying that it's still a special bike
That straight up looks proper oooooolllld skooollll, say what!?
When it was 675, 120ish HP was fine. Now it’s a 765, 128 is not enough. It should’ve had atleast 150BHP. I know power is more and weight is less, but seriously all it comes down to is numbers. And stay home stay safe people. Let’s fight corona together. #quarantine
I recently picked up a gix k7 600 after having 1000cc bikes. Personally I'm really glad I moved back down. I'm enjoying the level of usable power and great agility. Here in Perth, Australia we only have 2 tracks which aren't really anything to brag about and I find are more suited to the lighter weight bikes.
Yeah I do miss the instant, but lazy, power and torque of 1000s but I'd be more inclined to get a 1000cc naked.
I have one of these and tbh it looks 10 times better in the flesh but aye i do get where your coming from with the dated stuff. My loom is also different (the right length)so i am guessing it's down to the assembly. Great honest review though as per.👍
How are you finding the bike im in the position to get one, worth it?
Yeah, i like it. The price tag is a bit steep but you get alot of kit. The engine is really nice, smooth but has alot of poke. Should hold its value being ltd edition. If you can afford it go for it.
The 90's look is outdated, but what great machine it is.
That's definately not 90's. Look up a Daytona 900/1200 for 90's.
Right outside the farm entrance, bloody el could of bloody given us a go🤣
I am not British, maybe that is why I love Triumph bikes so much. I tried so many of them. Personally, I think this D765 looks great. Yes, it is not flashy. I would love to have one. At the same time I probably would rather buy Speed Triple RS (though Street Triple RS is splendid as well, but Speed feels more manly in a sense). And, I am keeping my 2014 Daytona 675 (non-R), I am enamoured with that bike. :-)
❤️🔥
Hello !!
I've got a '10 Daytona and was looking forward to this. Had an order in for one of these and cancelled it when they showed off the design. Picked up an R1 with 600 miles on it for £12.5k. Couldn't justify paying three grand more for 70+ less BHP with dated styling. Seen a few on autotrader so maybe when they depreciate in the future it'll be a better buy.
Decent & very fair review. Much prefer the Ducati V2 but REALLY want Suzuki to make a new Euro5 GSXR 750!
I'm 2 afternoons into replacing the head gasket on my 1999 Triumph Daytona 955i... I also own an Aprilia RSV1000R. January 2021 I can buy a new bike... £15k upper limit, Ducati Panigali V2 is the first choice so far, Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX is 2nd choice...
The camera's audio wind noise, come on guys.
I likeTriumph a lot but this bike is a little too late. 17K can get you a whole lot more compared to what's out there. How does it stack up against the current competition at that price point?
mcn is the best#👍👍👍👍
but you'd by a Panigale V2 all day long over it ?
Triumph design looks so dated, not sure who would take this over a V2
Well I like this engine better but thats about it.
no
hipposnakeyo i have a 675 but that v twin gosh darn. Youre getting like 20 more hp! Would choose the v2 any day over the 765.
I think more American companies need to make bikes like this. Especially Indian and Harley Davidson.
I’ve been riding my wife’s 675R for a while now, get back on the old 2000 Ducati Superbike and I’ll be dammed if the old analog Ducati feels more connected to the road ...
Good honest review. 👍 Sounds like a good package all round but not worth the price unfortunately.
my Daytona 675R was one of my favourite bikes - but that was several years ago, I bet it is a fantastic bike to ride, but Triumph have missed the spot a bit I think, could have been a little more modern & exciting in the styling, it just looks like a 2014 675 with a paint job. Still, I'd have one !
When will the production version arrive..??
I barely recognize Neevesy with a shaved head... but looks good mate!
I think it looks great, not sure why people say it looks old.
If it was white and red no one would complain about the looks in my opinion.
Helibars...... made a huge difference bring up the angle of the clipons so that ergo is much improved. Truly can ride a supersport all day now. Yep hard to choose now V2 or this.
They should offer full fairing bolt on pattern for the 765 streetie in case you want to track that bike!
I dont care about this half new half old 765...all im interested to see is Neevesy out there...😍
They should make a sports touring bike using the trident platform for fans who like fully faired bikes
How does it handle compared to the MV F3? Has anyone got any experience on both of them?
I have a Daytona 1200, in comparison this looks like the Starship Enterprise. :-)
Wanted to hear more about how it rides! And about what the engine feels like...

Great stuff 🤛 superbikes are where the youth are attracted to, no young person looks at an ADV and thinks that looks nice
Adnan E You got that right bro. Is young people don’t like ADV bikes since it’s associated with old people. They are slow as well
TheInfantry98 exactly bro
I have only ever owned sport bikes... ADVs look like toilet, and I'm not massively keen on nakeds either... Have been eyeing up the Ducati Panegali V2, but where I live there is a very high chance that it will get stolen... Looking at a brand new bike for January 2021.
why is it still using bulky electrics, fuses, wiring, halogen bulbs too?
I still have mine with his Frind my aprilia 660
NEEVESY's Fave. Bike
I’ll keep my 675 2008 looks way better with the under seat exhaust and pretty as hell this looks like a tt600
There reason that the sell of Daytonna slow down is because it never got updated. Yamaha sold tons of R6. If it got updated to more modern style with led and without a limited price tag I would want one. Imho, it is not a smart business strategy to only focus on single vintage/cafe market (not that I don’t like them). Now waiting for rs660.
Should be made in Britain
I'll buy the V2!
Would love to have that bike for the road, so... get the street triple 765?
Long tail section, undertail exhausts and sharp looking front are the true sports bike thing!
I hate short minimalistic tail (current gen - S1000RR), Box type front (current gen - ZX10R) and winglets too. Even though it has advantages still too fancy and spoils the look.
You're losing your hair riding those very fast motorcycles. Thumb up!!!
How would you compare the 765 to a GSXR750 on the street and for daily use?
Think you summed it up really well, great machine to ride no doubt but somewhat dated with poor detailing for the asking price.
Good point with the Ducati V2. Yes, does look like a 1990 bike.
Design is surely old but it never feels old to look at.
Yes, visuals are very dated. Riding it sounds like a dream, though.
Does this bike has 6-axis IMU like V2?
My buddy @GhostninjaSD has number 007 of 765
I want one SO bad! If i had the cash, i'd windmill slam the cash down in an instant.
Ya , a lot of guys are bringing the hate full speed ahead. That’s hilarious!
Absolutely agree. It could look better. Little bit disappointing :(
Also another great point... why on Earth would I buy this over a Panigale V2... the V2 has more power, looks 100x better and it's cheaper!?
Loved the 675R and couldn’t wait for this to come out with its Union Jack fairing, but seriously, WTF were they thinking with that harness?..... That’s just pure laziness.
It's a bit of a joke compared to the V2 Panigale isn't it ?
I prefer unpainted silver frame and long rear overhang. Paint would scratch and short tail needs an awful licence plate hanger.
Agree triumph made a very expensive time capsule from 15 years ago. Cant understand its same company that just made 2020 year version of Rocket 3 R.
Why am i watching this video, even though i dont have money to buy this beauty
Distinctly 2007 in the looks dept
But I love this look this one really looks a proper 90's supersport bike and I love it
Subhadip dey This doesn’t look like a 90s supersport at all, it looks like a 2000’s supersport and that’s why it looks bad and the livery is honestly crass I was expecting much better after seeing the moto2 motorcycle with the matte Union Jack flag all over it and I was expecting a track bike bodywork on this not the old Daytona, they didn’t paint the frame to save weight yet this has old giant halogen headlights for street use tell me that doesn’t sound stupid
The look of this bike is enough to put me off. Shame as it sounds like a great bike to ride
