Great post. Should car refuse to start in warm weather when glow plugs faulty? Mine went into limp mode with dde light on, the engine stopped, now refuse to start although cranking fine.
Hi don't need glow plugs to start a modern diesel! The problem will be fuel pressure check out this video and use a multimeter instead of a scope if u don't have one cheers sandy czcams.com/video/pHitMK2YteE/video.html
hi, superb video, got the same problem with my 525d, put new plugs and new module in, still having faults coming up for 6 glow plugs. any ideas? Thanks
Hello - thanks for the vid. What's that scope set up u're using there please? (I'm trying to find a cheap scope set-up - it's surprising how expensive some of them are!)
Thanks for sharing! Didn't you connect terminal 12 to the computer so that the glow plug controller can operate according to the signal from the computer or did you just connect positive and negative to the battery and the controller operated right away without receiving any signal from the computer?
Nice and neat video.. I hve the same model 320d E46 my car starts up fine on cold starts but won't start when it reaches normal operating temperature. Wat could be the problem?
Hi I am trying to search for the location of the glow plug control module on my e46 320d 2004 BMW and was just wondering if you knew where it was located Many thanks great video
It sits on the side of the gear box a real pain to get to from underneath and to get it from top u have to strip out pollen filter and bulkhead fittings
Hi great video! I've got the same e46 I've changed plugs and even the fuel pump thinking that might have something to do with the fuel line as my e46 won't start... ( it eventually fires but on a cold morning there is no hope) Can you tell me where the glow plug relay would be please... ( I have no idea where this fuse is). Ive checked the little fuse box you've shown in the video and all the fuses seemed fine Your help would be overwhelming
No, i havn't, but will do tomorrow, checked fuses in ebox. If turns out there are no power to glow plugs, what should be the problem, running out of ideas, thanks for reply
From the look of things I'd say you know a thing or two about the 320d \o/. I'm having a problem with the exact same car (except for being MY2003) and the problem is fuse #1 (F1) blows as soon as I turn the key. I feel I've crawled like 50% of the internet now searching for some clues to how I can fix this but it's close to impossible. So I'm hoping maybe you would be able to point me in the right direction to eliminate this problem and get the vehicle back on the road. PS! It still cranks the engine when trying to start so it's not like everything dies.
hi mate, i have the sympton when car chokes but does not start all , checked the e-box and the went to the engine management fuse box and tested all fuses with electro meter and seemed find but the 30a Fuse on the end of that socket was not feeding any power? " basically long story short, started the car up yesterday, there was no smoke when usually i do a cold start there is smoke, and car died out on me!! what is the problem do you think?
Chaos3717 these high pressure BMW do not require glow plugs in order to start, I would check the 2 fuel pumps, 1 in the tank which is a low pressure transfer pump access under back seat (open fuel cap and listen for initial prime before crank first thing in morning) 2. fuel pump under car (located near passenger seat next to fuel filter filter but coveted over with metal plate listen hear too for initial prime
sandy anderson before the issue happened, ill tell you the symtoms, the car was started on cold start but for some reason there was no smoke . Than 20 minutes later while on my drive it died and DDE light came on. As it was running previously it was running like it was having breathing problems like( heavy breath heavy breath then low breath heavy breath heavy breath than low breath) would it be maybe because the fuel level is on low ??
fanatstic matejust fited a new module hopefully this wil help me
Excellent video. Explained perfectly
I have all 6 plugs misefire, its gas bmw e39, and some codes lights to but car works fine.
Do you know what's wrong?
good job man! please put in the title 320d and 150 hp ..maybe it helps better for searching
Excellent video. But. Can you help me with your wire diagram. About the 30amp fuse in the pack that you showed

Then your problem has been faulty wiring all along.
Hello - thanks for the vid. What's that scope set up u're using there please? (I'm trying to find a cheap scope set-up - it's surprising how expensive some of them are!)
That's an old crypton scope you would be better buying cheap picoscope 2000 for £100 uk czcams.com/video/pHitMK2YteE/video.html cheers sandy

Yes just connected straight to battery no computer needed cheers sandy

The glowplug control unit is on the top of gearbox I think the relay is next to fuses in engine bay
think on prefacelift e46 330d etc the module/relay is in ecu box.nothing under inlet manifold unlike 6 speeds
can you please tell how you sort out the other error....i have the exactly the same errors all plugs and rail pressure
91StefaNs60 the rail pressure codes usually clears once u fix glow plugs, it is generated when the car fails to start
sandy anderson the car starts everytime...now that rail pressure is gone...only the glow plugs error still on....i m confunsed now
On whitch temp its stars glow module? I dont have any error but it wont turn it on -4c
It should be on at that low temperature!
@@sandyande which precisely? I need to know, maybe its something else...
Hi, superb video, got same problem with my 525d, changed new glow plugs and module, but still showing 6 glow plugs fault, any ideas, thanks
have u checked with a test light that you are getting power to individual glow plugs?
No, i havn't, but will do tomorrow, checked fuses in ebox. If turns out there are no power to glow plugs, what should be the problem, running out of ideas, thanks for reply

There's no fucking way I'm going to try and do this. Thanks for the video though, it's cemented the fact I have no mechanical knowledge whatsoever.
