One of the students hit it right on the nail by saying, "American elections is a lie". Yes, we have the freedom to vote for someone who will do for the oligarchs not the citizens.
Bro, the singer one pointed out some very interesting things: Too much freedom means less freedom in the end. Cuz too much freedom gives the wrong ones power to overcome or to dim other people's freedom. The way we (westerns) vote doesn't represent our interests actually (or he implied it's a fr@ud)

All the people of China can vote. They vote for a candidate at village level who then are further elected (or not based on merits) to move on the through the various levels to finally the central (federal) levels. They don't directly elect their president at their personal level. In some countries, you can at the lowest personal level also directly vote/elect the president at central (federal) level. Does the various systems of election the sole criteria to define the right to vote and democracy ? It's still a right to vote or be elected ...
I agree with the singing guy on the subject of election. I believe Mark Twain or Hemingway said that "If voting made any difference, they wouldn't let us do it", and I could not put it any better than that. I am not sure which one of the two said that.
I believe in every society there are more morons than smart people. Given the population size of China, the amount of moron can bring horrible destructive power.
I think the idea of freedom is subjective depending on where you live and your culture. There are some freedoms we have in the West that some countries like China doesn't have. Yet there are freedoms in China that we don't have in the West, such as the safety at night, it's a lot safer to wander the city streets in China whereas in many Western cities it's not that safe especially to walk alone at night. Another example for instance is in the US students in school have to do safety drills regarding a potential shooter incident, yet in the UK that's just unthinkable. We had one school shooting and guns were banned and restricted. Americans would say that's a freedom issue, where in the UK we would say the opposite, children being kept safe is a bigger freedom than the ability to own a gun.
sadly many in the west think they have a monopoly over what is considered democracy and what is considered freedom and can ONLY be defined by the west, any other alternative is unacceptable and is subject to ridicule and you can hear it from the tone of the interviewer, who's obviously brought up in England and heavily indoctrinated by the UK's system of education, I bet he doesn't even know it. it is always odd, coming from the west, the emphasis is always on freedom, yet, they will not accept other nation's right to choose what system of governance is preferred, instead both U$UK choose to shove it down everybody's throat! So bizarre.

i live in alberta, i have always preferred the alberta liberal party. but it has never been in power and probably will never be. so for me, voting in a democracy means nothing because the liberal party has not been in power and most likely won't. so for me, if democracy means the right to vote for whoever i want, it is meaningless. what i want is a government based on meritocracy and not populism. love from canada.
Democracy also means right to speak against any govt politician or its scheme...but it's not possible in China...The word Winny the pooh is banned in China as it's related to the president of China....
Great interviews with range of questions with a good selection of students. Nice to see most of these Chinese students speak good enough English; they exude confidence and are friendly!👍👍👍
It impressive because except for one student who is doing Linguistics, all the students are not majoring in English at the University. It is very interesting if you could do similar interviews with a dozen students in your home country. However, the research sample will have to be students who are taking courses in Mandarin in Oxford/Cambridge/Edinburgh universities or at Confucius Institutes.
No matter what kind of freedom it is, you must grasp the "degree". Once it is out of control, there is no freedom at all. For example, in some countries, behavior such as "beating, smashing, and looting" on the streets is excessive, leading to chaos in social security and suffering for ordinary people!
3rd best university? I am sorry, nobody in China think so except themselves! In China, there're well recognized top 2 (PKU and TSU), then about 10 universities claim to be #3 🤣🤣🤣
A majority of Americans believes that owning a gun is essential for survival. To me, that tells you a lot about that country. American style democracy 👎.

I will explain one thing: Democracy means the government of the ppl, and what we have in west should be called plutocracies, since they dont represent the interest of the ppl, the majority. These plutocracies represent in most of the countries the rule of the big bourgeois families over the worker class. Keep this in mind. In the end it is all about choices, British and Americans do have freedom to live their lives, I think most people around the world would wish that both U$UK keep their freedom in their own countries and not shove it down everybody's throats.

And that happens all the time around the world.
Are you kidding?china is a democratic country????oh my gosh
Yes, Chinese people can elect their人大代表
