Eating them here and there is one thing. Eating them throughout an entire deployment is entirely different. It also screws with your digestive system after a while. We had dudes who hadn't pooped once in weeks. It was pretty strange.

I was in the Army until 2011. The MRE’s did get better every year. But at like 2,000 a package, they are meant for high energy days. Also will clog up your pooper for days-that’s what the gum is for. It acts as a laxative.
Also, that wasn’t napkins, it was toilet paper. Lol. Truth!
My favorite was the Chili Mac. I also liked the shakes that came out about 2003. But I heard they stopped making them in like 2014-not sure.
You did a good job making them. Always make sure you have the heater bag at the proper angle, and that the heating element is on the bottom of the food pouch, not on top of it.

Blood, urine and stool samples were taken in the 30 day period. I was instructed to only drink water with the menu beverages provided and eat only the contents of each meal during the 21 days. The selected menu items were from 2014 menu selection. All were consumed and all empty packaging was teturned to the lab personnel. No adverse side efects or constipation was experienced by me. Tip: When your adding water to the heater, add just a tiny bit. Then roll the bag up from bottom to top and wait a couple of seconds. And you will have the hottest heater possible. Be careful because that mf will scorch your fingers off. When the heater cools down, just roll it again. And you have a scorching heater again. -In boot camp, I allmost got beat up because someone thought I stole their lemonade mix.
-In boot camp, you can barter and trade MREs for popular flavors. I did research before hand and became an MRE day-trader to get the best flavors.
-In boot camp, Drill Instructors tell you you're not allowed to eat the gum. I would smuggle it and chew on rucks.
-In boot camp, you're not allowed to mix the drink mix in your canteen. I would mix it in and pretend it was plain water.

Reason they put a lot of carbs and especially sugar in mre is cause of the energy water expenditure. Especially in dry climates like mid east that sucks water from your body. Salt helps hydrate and sugar gives energy but also slows the processing of water in your system from just urinating most out so you get more of the electrolites and such than if you just normally drink water. Adding salt and sugar to your water too is very very good for you. I do it at work and its a massive boost

I remember in Navy boot camp totally enjoying the enormous variety of foods to choose from at chow. I was shocked listening to the other girls complaining through every meal about the food. "That's nasty," was the phrase most used. Their favorite thing to complain about was the taties with the skins still on. "That's nasty." The food was excellent. We did not eat MREs. We ate on the chow line, with everything you can think of for breakfast, and great meals!! It doesn't surprise me that the MREs are good too. Food is one way to help keep moral up!

When you remember what these meals are used for, emergencies etc. you realize why they’re so high sugar high carb loaded. They may not taste the best but they do have to have a long shelf life. Some of them pack bread that is good for 20 years or more. So you can imagine all the preservatives in them as well. Not the best but better than starving.

Hey Mav, if you see this I just wanted to make a recommendation for you. If you can find some, I suggest you order some japanese MRE's. I've had the pleasure or eating those a few times and oh man are they incredible. Each one usually comes with two types of rice, white and another style. They also have the beat entrées. My favorite was curry rice with a pork cutlet. They also have many different stir fries with either pork, beef, chicken, or even fish. The fish is always a nice filet of salmon, mackerel, or a type of bass. Just sooooo good, and very filling.
Well, just wanted to pass along a recommendation. Loved this video, I'm a big fan or MRE's. I will warn you though, if you ever see the American MRE cheese omelet......chuck it. The foulest grossest thing I ever put in my mouth.
