  • The Xbox One Elite controller has been labeled by many as a cool, yet grossly overpriced peripheral. But does Luke think that its awesome features justify the high price?

      OLD DOES NOT MEAN OUTDATED.
      To hear sound we need analog waves, any other methods of sound ouput still requires a digital to analog converter.
      Just because the port is old doesn't mean it's outdated, perhaps you should have done research beyond Apple's shitty PR department.

      @WolvenSpectre Před 8 lety

      +marcarsenal1 Most tech reviewers have chosen (supposedly at Google's/CZcams's suggestion) to only include prices when it is very newsworthy/noteworthy at the time. It has been also suggested that some companies that lend out review items ask prices not be discussed to keep the story vendor neutral as to what individual vendors charge.
      The upside is the video doesn't get dated as fast and when it does get dated it is harder to tell.
      Also LTT does a pricing discussion on their forums that is a common driver to them to help build the forum community and keep it out of the YT comments.

      +ItsDrafty
      Building in rechargeable would be bad feature because standard lithium batteries are only good for about 2 1/2 years before going out. You do know you can still get a rechargeable pack anyways right? Plus with them removable if the battery dies you aren't suck tethered to a USB port. You can just swap out the battery back and your back playing again.

    • @TheGreatBenjie
      @TheGreatBenjie Před 8 lety +49

    • @BlueEyedSexyPants
      @BlueEyedSexyPants Před 8 lety +6

      +ItsDrafty It's a tradeoff. Some people want battery slots so they can just pop in new batteries instead of plugging in when it dies. They can use rechargeables if they want. Including both would increase the cost and engineering complexity, and only including a rechargeable would mean that when that battery dies, you have to send it back to get it replaced, rather than just popping in new.

      It's not about whether or not it's a PC, it's about the hardware inside that PC.
      Every XBONE has the same hardware therefore making game development easier.
      "porting to PC" actually means making it work on many different PC builds across hardware generations.

    I’ve had this controller for probably 6+ months now and I can honestly say that I really like it and have virtually no complaints about it. The rubberized grip across the controller feels very nice and premium (although your hands may get hotter than usual), the swappable thumb sticks was a HUGE plus when switching between different games and same goes for the paddles and trigger stops.

  • @Ordolph
    @Ordolph Před 8 lety +3

    My favorite feature of the controller, which I'm surprised that Luke didn't mention. The shafts of the thumbsticks are chrome steel, and there is a metal ring around the edges of the thumbsticks area, so they don't get that plastic on plastic friction that you get with the standard controller. They slide along the outside very smoothly.

  • @RhysDardis
    @RhysDardis Před 8 lety +6

    I got one recently, really enjoy it playing Forza 6. Shifting with the metal padels just feels more emersive to me than hitting a button. Triggger stop on the break is nice but shit on the gas. Playing Battlefront it is nice just remaping your buttons to the triggers so you never have to lift off the thumb sticks. Love the controller, worth the price for me.

    So I am now on my third Xbox elite 2 controller. I’ve had to return and swap for a new one twice within a 30 day time period. The first remote had an issue of slight right thumb stick drag and the Y button was not very responsive. Had to forcefully press it twice a lot. The second remote again had even more right thumbsitck drag and, the A, X, B, and Y button would sometimes not register, and the D pad had some issue with it not fitting quite right so it would get locked a bit if you moved in two opposite directions which was really annoying. Just picked up and this time purchased a two year warranty for my now third remote within 30 days. This one seems to be promising.

      some rat Yes... But that's not that controller, is it? Those are two different things.
      My point is, the controller is an option. Saying that console gaming is overly expensive because of an optional component is just as stupid as saying PC gaming is expensive because $1000 graphics cards exist, and $200 mech. keyboards exist. They're optional.

    • @Vicvines
      @Vicvines Před 8 lety +10

      +eni PC gaming is not cheaper in the long run anymore. You can buy used games for as much as you would pay on a Steam Sale. Right now I can get Assassin's Creed Black Flag and Unity for $10 each for PS4 used on eBay. New PC games cost $60 just like console games. A good keyboard and mouse combo will cost you upwards of $100. Sure you can use a shitty keyboard and mouse for maybe $20 altogether but let's face it, most PC gamers want that mechanical keyboard and nice mouse. The controller is not overpriced for what you're getting. If you want that customizability then you pay for it. You guys are sounding like PC elitists right now just bashing anything you can bash. Buying a console costs you $350 right now. Unless you bought all the console games new at $60 each and you bought all your PC games on a big steam sale, you'll never reach the cost of PC gaming with console gaming. That's a misconception that nobody even thinks about anymore but they parrot. PC gaming is more expensive than console gaming as a whole.

Then the majority of people younger than 16 aren't going to be applicable, probably taking you down to 60%. Then a lot of people only use electric shavers, so down a lot more to surely ~35%. And finally it's only avaialble in the US and Canada, so only about 20% of the people watching your videos are going to be applicable to even consider buying from them.

If its getting shuffled around your house, tossed, dropped, used with greasy fingers, obviously the longevity of this controller is going to be abruptly ended. But if you keep it in the case, take care of it, and be cautious with it, she will last for the years to come.

This is partly why I switched to PC gaming after my Elite controller's right stick stopped working properly. It should last more than 8 months for $150. That is something you should be aware of though. It feels like very high build quality (and was AWESOME whe it worked) but it will NOT last a year of significant use in all likelihood.

    After having my elite controller for a while before seeing this, I gotta say, most of the things Luke complained about (paddles and tall thumbsticks) actually are really nice, you just have to adjust to them. When I first got mine I felt the same way (accidentally pressing paddles, and the tall thumbsticks felt weird) but now I use all the paddles like it's second nature and the tall thumbsticks are sooooo good for accuracy and don't bother me at all. You just gotta stick with a config for a bit to adjust.

    I own the Elite. I want to add more to this snub to the PC users.
    I have the wireless adapter with this controller, and that adapter only works in windows 10.
    1. "Xbox Accessories" app will crash when you are using wireless connection to pair.
    2. Remapping feature is limited only to existing buttons that you'd find on a 360/Xbone controller.
    3. You cannot bind keystrokes, bind macros, and you cannot use the paddles as standalone buttons for PC gaming.
    4. Xpadder and other remapping software will only recognize the controller as a run of the mill 360 controller.
    Xbox console players may have to live with the even ground limitations, but that's not the case with PC. I own the Steam Controller, which is far inferior in construction quality, but the remapping options through Steam Big Picture mode blows the Xbox Elite controller out of the water.

      I am using Windows 10, but don't ignore the legitimate gripes about privacy concerns when using that OS. Windows 7 is end of life, but that's not the case with Windows 8.1 yet. I must add that the wireless adapter doesn't work on Linux or Steam Link at that.

    • @franklinliao4269
      @franklinliao4269 Před 8 lety +1

      +MeatyPotato Cactus Why else did I purposely cite out Linux? I have no bone with you about making it clear that you are only as safe as you choose, but to merely state that this is a non-issue is laughable. Moreover, please kindly remember that Microsoft had touted very publicly that Windows 10 and Xbox One are to be integrated rather seamlessly at that.
      If this were Sony's Dualshock 4, then there's no need to be this critical. Microsoft has made a damn good controller, but to have the galls to be this half-hearted on Windows 10 PC support when that comes at a premium is intolerable.

    • @franklinliao4269
      @franklinliao4269 Před 8 lety

      +MeatyPotato Cactus It's the same as the 360 controller in this regard, and that's great. The only bonus that exists with this controller functionality wise is the ability to map paddles to other buttons such as ABXY under Windows 10.
      Problem is, you must remap using that app and must use the cord is not so excusable to me since Steam Controller has no such qualm.

    • @franklinliao4269
      @franklinliao4269 Před 8 lety

      +MeatyPotato Cactus You can't. Steam controller is not even a 360 Controller if you shut Steam down. All functionalities are only enabled if Steam is on, which is a huge disadvantage. This means that CronusMAX won't make it work on XBone. Steam Controller does work on Windows desktop, but only if Steam is on.

      Value is perception. Jordan's are not worth 200 dollars but there is a market for them. Do you strictly buy second hand clothing causes it's cheaper? It doesn't matter what you compare it to. The market creates prices. If they sold this for a couple dollars more then standard why would anyone buy their other controls. They predicted selling this to 3-5% of their customers if it's out of your price range that is completely fine but the value is different for everyone. Don't try to think for an entire customer base.

The paddles are harder to press but I have less accidental presses compared to the Elite. However the elite paddles can be manually switched on or off by double tapping the green sync button.
    Also from what I have read on Scuff's website it looks like MS has partnered (and licensed its tech) with Scuff and they will be the official 3rd party pro controller accessory provider. Most likely we will see custom paddles or stick shafts eventually.

    Over-priced and I don't like how the "magnetic" buttons don't stick (i.e. come off) when pressing the buttons hard enough.
    I think I'll pass. :\

      +Aaponton Yup PS3 controller is ass. Too small, shitty triggers, shitty handles, face buttons are too far apart, left analog stick is in a shitty position. Just overall unergonomic. (playing PS3 as I type this)

    don't see why it bothers luke about the pc support being an after thought, after all the controller IS made for xbox, the pc side did come after. if you want something specifically aimed for pc with tons of support then buy something made for pc and not xbox

    • @flippantb
      @flippantb Před 8 lety +6

      +northern marine It irks me too. It's because the PC gaming market is huge, and not all games PC gamers play are mouse and keyboard. Many games, and Indie games have controller input schemes that make the game more fun. So Microsoft go through all the trouble to make the Xbox controller PC compatible since the 360, and even bake in native drivers in win 10, test and make the product work... and then fail to spend basic QA time to catch basic bugs like missing labels on the controller software. It's baffling how a multi billion dollar company could reach 90% of completion of a fantastic product and just stop there.

    Normal XBOX One Rechargeable battery works with the elite controller as well. Wasn't in the review. Also since the review a few kits of magnets have come out to replace the back buttons etc that are a bit better placement wise. More options at least :) Waiting for a good quality controller cover to come out but ... I have a nubby grip one that works OK for now.

    I'll stick to my PS4 controller on PC for the moment. The trackpad is just extremly nice to have on a PC. And after a stick swap (back to ps3 style domes) everything is just perfect for me, triggers, buttons, dpad and comfort level.
    One day Microsoft will realize that they have given the best gaming platform away to others. I mean all I get from Microsoft is their OS. I use steam to buy games, periferals from Logitech and Sony and hardware from loads of different companies. It would be possible that I'd buy all or most those things from Microsoft if they give a shit about me. But they obviously don't want my money. And at this point I don't think I need stuff to change. Other players have entered the game and have filled all my needs.

      Cloudbusters -
      It does need a third party tool to make use of the touchpad and simulate xinput! It works without it but just as a generic controller which means some games that require xinput won't work. I strongly suggest using something like DS4windows, you can reprogram anything from buttons to the touchpad and you get full RGB control of the lightbar.
