IMO, for a $50 wired controller it should have hall effect sensors
I refuse to buy another controller that isn't hall effect. GameSir has put out a couple of hall effect controllers for less money than this one.

Got a 8bitdo ultimate and not looking back again. Got a few controllers that drifted for me and don't want to repeat this cycle
It's surprising to me that people haven't noticed wireless 3rd party controllers don't really exist for Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles. Microsoft just doesn't license wireless controllers, there are only one or two that exist between both console generations. Brands like Scuf only have wireless controllers because they buy Microsoft controllers and mod them.
Don't all X-Input controllers work on Xbox?
@MrMagamarc on console they use a proprietary wifi signal to connect to the console not bluethooth so that it can transmit both audio and inputs with little to no latency.
@@MrMagamarc no, if it isn't licensed by Microsoft it doesn't work on Xbox. Wired or Wireless.

@@hellspinner8378 even wired just having X-Input isn't enough. The controller needs to be licensed by Microsoft to work at all on an Xbox.
The Xenon also comes in "Cosmic Night" and "Twilight Galaxy" which are a sparkly black and blue version of the controllers. The Duke is still my favorite controller since it fits perfectly in my hands.

I absolutely love the 360 controller. I still have one for my PC and it’s in excellent condition. I like that Hyperkin made these but for me the price is too high. The Xbox branded series controllers go on sell so often for around $45-50 usd that it makes it a no brainer for me to just get the better controller. Now if these went on sell for like $30 then I might consider one.

As a man with hands the size of baseball mitts, I really loved the original Xbox controller. I never really understood the hate for it. Being able to play without hand cramps was nice. Luckily, it looks like Hyperkin also makes a version of the original Xbox controller too.
I'm with you. I am 6'5 and have size 15 shoes so you can kinda guess how big my hands are. The Duke just felt nice in my monstrous hands.
I was like 10 when the og Xbox came out, and I didn't understand the hate for it either. And I had 10 year old hands!
I have totally average sized hands and I will defend the OG Xbox controller until the day I die. It was super comfortable.
I don't have big hands and it was still a fantastically comfortable controller. And SIX FACE BUTTONS OH MY. That is one thing I wish someone made today, a good quality PC compatible gamepad that had actual extra buttons, not just shortcuts to existing ones, and wasn't just a Sega oriented retro controller either...
Give me the overall shape and layout of the Duke, the D-pad from either the Xbox One or Series controller (I can do fine with either), Hall effect sticks with the feel of the DS4 or 5 sticks but the tops of the Xbox Series sticks, 6 face buttons like the Duke had, the active triggers from the DS5 (with an extra button click, virtual or real, when reaching all the way down), shoulder buttons as easy to use as the Xbox One/Series pads, the trackpad from the DS4 (I like it better than the DS5 one for whatever reason) and gyro controls at least as accurate as the Nintendo controllers, and I won't have anything left to complain about...
The duke was the last of the six face button controllers, I was a big sega guy and that was always my favoreite setup, I sorta dislike the four to this day.
I really like how, unlike the razer(I think?) they didn't recess the type c port by like 4 inches leaving you still stuck with /their/ specific cable.
I hate when they do that. Thankfully narrow cables exist and cheap cables can be shaved down
GameSir G7 SE just launched earlier this month and it has Hall Effect Joysticks and Triggers, a 3.5mm, and a 3meter USB-C cable and is only $45.
It is also the ONLY Officially Licensed Xbox Controller with Hall Effect Joysticks.
The T4 Kaelid is also great and is slightly cheaper, but it's PC/Switch market oriented instead of Xbox market oriented.
I have it. It's so weird playing Halo Infinite, centering the sticks and... nothing.

@@furythreeNo. Microsoft don't license the wireless technology so any licensed third party Xbox controller will be wired.
No hall effect sticks is a bit of a let-down, but otherwise this seems like a great option for reliving those 360 days.
It's surprising that no one has released an Xbox compatible controller with Hall Effect sticks yet. It is an untapped market.
My thought was hall effect sticks might bump the price up thus being near the official Xbox controller. $50 is a good spot for this controller, $40 would have been a must buy and I feel $60-$65 would be too much for a wired Xbox 360 clone controller.

@@zeroa69 those are not compatible with Xbox. X-Input is not the same thing as Xbox compatibility.
The biggest reason people like the XB360 controller design more is the triggers. The XB360 triggers have a longer travel and it's easier to tell by feel how much travel you've applied. The XB1 and newer designs don't have that. Now, why do a lot of players like that? Racing games. Yes, actually a vast majority of racing games are played on a controller. Why? Because it's rather challenging to integrate a racing setup that doesn't interfere with the regular setup. Challenge LMG to make a video on how to do it and for cheap.
Thank you! I was honestly watching this going "how is this significantly different than the controller I got with my XBox S? It looks basically identical except for having a little notch on the top. This is the insight I needed to understand the video.
It depends on the game, 360 controllers without trigger rumble have fallen to the wayside nowadays as now you can "feel" the limit of the tires on accel and braking with the series controllers.
Don't believe that, since I played racing games only on the X360, PS3, PC, PS4 and XONE. X360 controllers are one of the worst controllers.
From RB and LB shoulders buttons to build quality in general.
Back when I played racing games on controller I still preferred the xbox one controller as the rumble triggers let you feel the loss of traction. This one looks like a straight upgrade over that (for racing)
Shooters games as well, cannot leave those out!

His (understandable) conclusion "I have a hard time recommending this controller unless you really want the 360 feel. Then I guess it's pretty good." doesn't really match the thumbnail and the "close to absolute perfection" title 😅
For me I wanted a 360 controller it is that and shows and an Xbox series controller. Of they ever make wireless I'll buy another.
I wish new Xbox controllers kept the full color buttons like these 360 ones, easyer to see

The Xbox 360 controller is ergonomically perfect. I can't think of a single thing about its shape and button placement that I would change. I've rebuilt a couple of mine now. Had one shoulder button and one A button give out. I even use a wired 360 controller for my Windows 98 gaming PC because there's functional drivers for it.
I bought their remake of the Duke and it crapped the bed after 6 months of extremely light use. I’m sure this one will be no different
I’m still using my halo reach controllers to this day. Got the usb dongle and everything.
Big question tho, small mods like button and joystick "mushroom" replacement (not the analog stick itself) still work from a regular 360 one? I really like aluminium buttons/joysticks both for feel and durability.

Anyone else remember that one X360 controller where the dpad rotated and had that bit that recessed? Would have liked to see that again.

honestly the taller analog sticks is honestly one of the best changes they couldve done, my main grip with the 360 controller is the analog sticks just felt too short. every time i try to go back and use it that is the first thing that stands out to me.
Yep I made a comment similar to this earlier, did the same thing back in the day by taking the sticks out of a controller S and swapping them in to an x360 controller, I did it for comfort and to keep my aim similar from the xbox days with halo 1 and 2. I haven't tried to swap sticks in a modern controller but if the stems are similar the caps should fit right on without issue. Only really ran into differences with some third party controllers back then in which case I'd get a cheap used controller from the same company with sticks I liked and swap them then let my friends use the other one. The best third party controller for xbox back then in my opinion is the Pelican Eclipse. You get a controller s style layout and the controller is a little bigger plus you get duplicated black and white buttons on the top of the controller. It was marketed for football games but it worked really well for shooters with easier access to two more buttons while aiming that other people may not have had at the time.
As something of a "gamepad enthusiast", while I don't immediately dismiss one because it's wired (one of my favorites is the Razer Wolverine TE, which, for how "serious" and expensive it is, it's weird that it doesn't have a wireless option, not even its V2 follow-up which is just sad), I do think it should be quite standard nowadays. Even though, again, one of my most-used gamepads is wired-only, for which I just dangle the cable over my keyboard, it does get annoying and cluttered at times. It's not really in the way while playing, but you're gonna have to hold it in one general region only. Which in turn, is just good discipline, rather than to hold it in weird positions or something, but still, you're just tethered, which feels so old-fashioned. I even got retro-styled gamepads that are wireless, cause that's something from the past we generally DON'T want. - I will stick with wired for stuff like audio, but any type of controllers... as long as it works, rather not.
I like the noise cancelling to get rid of the fan noise from the laptop. If it is not, then something is up with the audio processing somewhere. Did MSI want this?
After I got my Xbox One in 2018 and retired my 360, I moved over to using my wireless 360 controller on my PC with a dongle with a 360 controller up until earlier this year when the stick finally started drifting a bit too much. And because of that I decided to take a chance on the 8-bit do ultimate controller, and it feels really nice. I was never fond of the direction we decided to go with the Xbox One controller, the triggers always had a spongy feel to me and it was just something about it I didn't like compared to the 360 controller. The d-pad was miles better, but I feel like the parts of the controller that are used more often got a slight hit in quality.
To anyone who has bought this controller how long before you had stick drift or if you were the head stick drift at all
Seems odd not to fix the D-pad, not really sure what the point of this is.
I would love to see controllers with hot swappable buttons. Clicky, soft, etc. I am a STAUNCH SNES controller simp and I absolutely adore the almost mush that they have. It is so much better and easier for when I have to button mash on my speedruns, like in megaman X for example. Clicky buttons are the bane of presses-per-second and I have trouble killing enemies in time before running into them.
Super niche` I know but very real.
I don't speed run or button mash and I prefer mushy buttons to click buttons.
Me 2, I love the switch lite over the joycons for this reason. It's loke the ps4 rather than the xbox

I have been maintaining my 360 controllers for about 14 years. Daily use, these lil fellas have been through all levels of hell and still work. They are so worn out now though so I was looking for a change. This could be it
I heard this controller is a must have when building aquatic vehicles.
After falling ib love with the Xbox 360 controller, after many years of owning a PlayStation and PlayStation 2, the Xbox 360 controller was just perfect for me in every single way but since I was fed up of having crappy knock offs or ludicris prices for a wireless xbox controller, I had found a really good brand - PDP Controllers.
It's a wired Xbox One/S style controller and unfortunately, my last one died on me because electrical contact cleaner got the A button stuck...It was the PDP Stealth Serise Spector Violet Controller that had buttons on the back, and unfortunately it wouldn't get unstuck and was impossible to open, so I had to unfortunately throw it away.
I now have the PDP Xbox Serise X|S & PC Purple Fade Rematch Controller and I absolutely love it! It's also lighter than the older model and uses USB C and not USB Micro B like my old one did. You also have software so you can customise the buttons,vibration, mic settings, etc on PC!
Add internal recbargeable battery, hall effect sticks and wireless connectivity and it will be a very nice thing to get

On the XBOX Elite Gamepad, you actually get great feedback from the ABXY buttons, maybe it's a cost-saving thing on the regular XBone pads?
The Elite V2 is my favorite pad of all time... sure, it's ridiculously expensive for a gamepad, but a) the buttons feel amazing, b) I won't ever go back to a pad without rear paddles, c) the fact that you can customize it quite a bit and it still instantly works with any game without any hassle whatsoever makes for a pretty convincing package for PC gamepad use.
im still using my razer wolverine tournament edition that ive had for a few years now. honestly my favorite Xbox controller for me. I have always hated wireless, yeah it has some stick drift now but thats my only issue with it, it has held up well even being abused sometimes (a lot) but still not sure if I wanna bite the bullet and get the V2 they made.
I want to get the xenon controller just so that it will have some level of the feel, and match the button prompts, for older PC titles in my library.
Could you also review Gamesir gamepad, especially the t4 kaleid with hall sensor and mechanical buttons

Still use a wired 360 controller for my PC for certain games. I have a lot of 360 wireless controllers, so whenever I wear out the thumb sticks, I just replace them from one of the other.

Not iconic enough I think. Hyperkin kinda gets things as close as they can without directly making a copy. I think that's why some color combos are a bit off.
oh man, I need one of these. I still have my 360 gamepad, and it was the last gamepad I ever bought. woul;d be great if I can swap out the sticks for hall effect and the buttons for the ones I use on my current 360 gamepad.
My favourite controller is the Elite Series 2. Why? Because I have logged well over a thousand hours on it and it has yet to develop stick drift. I am almost afraid to have jinxed myself just for having talked about it in a public space.
Elites honestly feel like a total lottery. My first Elite lasted like a year, and my Elite 2 had a broken shoulder button within a month and I had only used it a handful of times doing nothing special with it.
When you get a good one it really is the best you can get.. But.. Yeah.. Quality control is lacking for sure.
The software config and 4 paddles with Shift function is the strongest aspect of the controller. The stick lifetime, trigger stop nubs falling off and shoulder button issues are decidedly not great. But there's no other controllers on the market with the same capabilities on the remapping and paddle quantity, so we're all fucked.

I think I'll be buying this controller over the elite.
I've been wanting an Elite since they were first launched, but to this day can't bring myself to spend the money when they seem to be so hit and miss lol. Would really be nice to have in some games I play, but not at the risk of something that expensive with potential reliability issues when the standard One/Series controller is pretty rock solid(and, on PC, you can augment with the keyboard if necessary of course).
Idk if it’s because I grew up mostly on PlayStation. But I do not like xBox controllers. I always felt the built in controller dead zone compared to the PlayStation. Even on my friends set ups who had screens supporting game mode with faster refresh rate even back then I still noticed it. I tested it too. Brought my PlayStation to a friends house and showed them what I meant because the PlayStation controller had a much smaller dead zone.
The big question is: does this controller works on x360?
Sidenote, you mention hoping for a better DAC in controllers. Alternative take, how much longer until they remove the analog audio port altogether and just throw a 2nd USB-C port there? Which in USB-C all the things crusade I'm all for.

How’s the dead zone on the Hyperkin’s sticks? I find the Series X and Elite 2 both have a dead zone that can’t be tuned out and it makes them unusable for racing games at a high level.

Sadly no but they will work with Xbox One and Xbox series in Xbox 360 backwards compatibility mode
The reason it's not wireless, is primarily due to extra licensing fees to include the Xbox's proprietary radio signal, would have made the cost of the pad higher. They could have done BT, but everyone knows BT connection for controllers just suck thanks to the latency and disconnection issues.
A DAC in a controller is certainly an interesting idea, would be nice for my use case.
Not super DAC proficient knowledge wise but would it add significant weight?

That extra stick height reminds me of a stick swap I did from an Xbox Controller S to an Xbox 360 controller back when I used to play a lot of Halo, I was used to the controller S so switching to the 360 controller felt off. The difference is only a few millimeters if that but the way it felt in game was like night and day. I'd totally buy this controller for that alone.
Thumbstick grip adapters are fairly cheap if all you want is a taller stick.
@@zeroa69 Yeah no, those are too tall and can fall off of the stick, I would rather have a longer throw on the stick itself to begin with not some crappy plastic bit that can break if I look at it funny.

I miss the days when Thrustmaster made cool PC controllers with extra buttons and features.
One thing than ps3 controller has over 360 was that early models has hall effect in the thumb stick which is a much superior thumbsticks at that time.

Wish the black had the original grey sticks and stuff like the white one, instead of the revision where everything's black. As it stands though, I'd pick up the white since that's the other controller I had.

stick drift was never a problem until people got to monitor and test the sticks on pc.....dead zones was the main thing that hid it on consoles I have 2 ps3 controllers going 10years with zero drift and battery will last about 2 days gaming (wireless and with rumble)
How does anyone enjoy controllers with oversized, unstable D-pads like the 360 controller had? How can you accurately move around or pick the right menu option without isolated directions?

$50 is kinda steep for me, but the 360 controller is my favorite of the more modern controllers. The Xenon feels slightly different, but it's just a great controller overall.
Should be wireless and have hall effect sensors, wouldn't mind gyro for use on pc as well.

$50 is a bit of an ask on these imo. Back in the day the wired only 360 controllers cost like, $20, so with inflation and the ever so slightly updated design I'd like to see these more in the $30-$35 range. That would be much easier to justify for the nostalgia.

I have a hard time calling Xbox 360 retro. I remember when I was a kid getting it NEW for Christmas the year came out. I remember looking at the controller and thinking it was so new and kind of futuristic. I'm buying one of these just to have one.
Yeah, doesn't quite feel retro to me either. Timeless, maybe. I was already looking for a wired 360 controller when I saw this at microcenter and I needed to get it.
The original wired xbox 360 controllers were always lighter than the wireless versions. The battery bay and weight made a big difference in the heft.

With that title I had assumed it would at least have Hall Effect sticks. Without that it goes from "close to perfection" to "just another controller"
No hall effect joysticks are kind of a bummer. My gulikit controller isn’t that well built or premium, but the Hall effect joysticks are so good and I never have to worry about drift.

I still love the xbox 360 controller, I still use my wireless one as my main PC controller to this day.
This looks perfect, but unfortunately as soon as you said it was wired only, I'm out. The best thing about a controller vs mouse and keyboard IMO is the relaxed stance leaned back you can take with a wireless controller, flail about madly if you want to, no wires to worry about.
I really don't think well implemented wireless is a pain, I use a knockoff xbox 360 wireless PC adapter and apart from some hassle getting the drivers to work on Windows 10, once setup, I've not had to touch a thing.
