I also just purchased your leak down tester i am going to test it and then do a compression test before i take it out riding. Hey Kevin, do you know if the collar of the gear that fits into the clutch side of the crank seal is supposed to be grooved?
    Mine has a slight groove that I assume is from wear from the seal and could also be contributing to a leak.

    Hello, I’ve recently discovered that my crank case spits out oil through my vent tube while running. I split the cases and noticed that my seals are not in bad shape. Is there any other reason why it would spit out oil through the vent tube if the seals are good? Case was never overflown with oil

  • @supercuda1950
    @supercuda1950 Před rokem +1

    I have a 98 Banshee which also blows smoke from the right side so I assume that it has the same problem. Thing is it has done this since new but not knowing much (at the time) about 2 strokes I could have had it fixed under warranty. Obviously it is no longer under warranty. Do you have to split the cases to replace the seal? I have replaced timing cover seals (on cars) by drilling, inserting screw, and using the screw to pull out the seal. Could you do this or am I destined to slit the cases. Being 72, I am not as fast as you and do not look forward to pulling the engine and splitting the cases!

    • @kevingalindo1
      @kevingalindo1  Před rokem

      You CAN do it without splitting the cases. Is it the right way? No.
      The seals have a lip on the outer diameter that hold them in the case. if you cut that lip off and push them in,you risk blowing it out especially during a backfire.
      Leak tester to verify Jeffie going through all the work. Good luck!!!

      @supercuda1950 Před rokem

      @@kevingalindo1 Thanks for the info. I did not know the seal had a lip on it. Rather than do it the quick way, I would rather do it right and not have to worry about the seal coming out or leaking. Thanks again.

    Im very confused. I have a fresh engine build. I made a leak test and everything good holds the air for more tha 10 min. No leaks. But why it leaks tranny oil from the vent case valve on the rear ?? I noticed that it leaks after I turn it on an let it idle. Im very confused. Engine sounds good and good compresion. Like I said no air leaks. Also it doesnt hace extra oil. Can anybody helps.

    I picked up a Yamaha blaster for my daughter and it ran good and then wouldn’t start. I did a compression test it only had 100 psi so I ordered a new piston and rings and sent the jug to get bored out and honed by a machine shop. The whole top end is brand new including gaskets and it still won’t start and the compression is still at 100 psi which it very low. I’m stumped can someone please help?

      every banshee I buy I do a compression test before I make the deal. It was uneven, so I got a better deal on it, so i brought it home. The first thing I do when I get them home is leak test them, then pull the carbs about and verify jetting is correct, all jets match and needle positions are set the same. you'd be surprised how many I find with mismatched jets and needles set uneven.

      the only thing your carbs will have is a air screw, will be on the left side toward the back of thr carbs. it's a small flathead brass screw. to me it sounds like your floats are need to be adjusted.

      Oh that Shawn, That's the TORS brain box. If you don't have TORS take the whole box off and trash it. Your bike shouldn't run at all with it hooked up if you have done TORS delete.

    what if the bike smokes out the left pipe on a cold start, and also popping noise like maybe a misfire from left cylinder

    • @kevingalindo1
      @kevingalindo1  Před 8 lety

      mis tuned carbs, as in out of synch at idle, air mixture improperly set, leak on right side causing it to be leaner, thus less smoke. popping could be a bad plug, plug cap or reeds.

    So I have a banshee with compression on right cylinder at 135psi and left cylinder at 145psi. I got a leak down tester and going to check for leaks but if it passes leak down does that mean I need to rebuild the top end? I noticed one pipe smokes more then the other one. @kevingalindo1  Před 6 lety +1

      traphouserecords407
      Your compression is still in spec, barely but it’s in spec. It’ll run fine. Your allowed 10psi difference between the 2. The compression difference could be caused by carb issues. If one side is loading up on oil because it’s not burning it like it should it will read higher on compression.
      For the uneven smoke, try syncing the carbs again, and maybe have a look at the reeds. Make sure the petals are sealing tight too the cages.

      I use my compressor, so you don’t have to hand pump. These often have reed gasket leak, some don’t have a gasket. If you test through the spark plug as well, you can check if the reeds are working. Should not let air out the intake when pressurized.

      Oil raises the compression, so that will be a false test. Your rings aren’t seated for some reason. If the rings are new and the bore wasn’t honed that will cause it, also new rings in a out of round cylinder that needed to be bored. Can be a lot of things.
