    I love Ernst. I have all my sockets on the hi-viz rails, two bit bosses, and the vertical plier organizers too. They all work very well for me.

    I went with westling for all my socket sets and absolutely love them.

    Thank you Tony for your comparison review of these two products. I am still in the research phase of my tool organization. I build ham radio antennas, many of which are 30+ feet in length. I use a rolling chair to back and forth the length. Many of them are either Japanese or American made. So I need both metric and SAE sockets. I also have JIS tools for some of the Japanese attachments. I put my tools and supplies for the particular project in a rolling tool cart. Back and forth I go along the antenna, making the appropriate attachments. At first, I was just setting the tools inside the cart. There was no organization for sockets and such. I also wanted a way to not waste time when I was finished and putting sockets and such back into the blow mold case when I took them out or put them away. I am choosing the Ernst over the Wesling. I like the clean lines of the Wesling. But it wouldn't be good for bringing it in an out of the chest and into the cart without tipping things over. I love the Ernst because it is adaptable and modular. I can have the tools at hand and take them back and forth without dropping or losing things. I can even have a tray just for the project I am working on and I can easily take it outside when I put the antenna on the temp pole for testing and calibrating. I am going to start out small in my purchase and then go from there, adding as I go along. I have seen your previous videos and I tucked it away in my mind for when I was ready to organize my stuff.

    I have both. I put all my 3/8 impacts on Westling and 1/4 chrome on magnetic Gearwrench rails. Pretty much all my 3/8 chromes are on Ernest.

    I used to have the cheep plastic peg organizers harbor freight. got fed up with the plastic pegs breaking all the time (they get really brittle in the heat and cold of my garage). went with the Ernst socket boss and i have never looked back. they are excellent at socket retention. I have dropped the entire tray a few time and only had 1 or 2 sockets come loose.

      Very nice and I know exactly what you mean. I have dealt with that in the past as well and have been very pleased with the Ernst. I'm really glad to hear you feel the same

    My 3/8 Capri impacts are on Westling rails, I love how they look but I hate how I can't just see what size it is. The Ernst socket boss just seems like it takes up a ton of space, like foam does. I honestly can't stray from the classic plastic pegs. They keep things tight and close, are cheap, and you can always easily see what size they are.

    Great video Tony! I have both and I prefer the westling tray. But I’m also a little OCD and can’t stand to break up a socket set so I don’t have much desire to customize my socket rails

  • @davidchavez4274

    I love my Westling Sockets Trays - makes life/jobs easier. I call them index pins, not sure what they are called, but I am missing 1/4 impact sockets - 1/8, 5/32 (Deep) - my OCD wont let me stop searching for them. They stay in place if you need to transport to a job site, I take whole set and toss in trunk and sockets stayed on pins and none came out, but this is on paved roads, not on dirt roads

    I have the cheap "peg type" sold by HF and others. I can get the full Metric and SAE 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 to fit in the top of my tool chest. They are fragile. They should stay in the box only. They do make it very quick to put everything back in order. I also have a three drawer mechanics seat for my motorcycle tools and keep a 1/4" metric socket set and ratchet and other common tools for working on the motorcycles. I have the Ernst rails used their. I am more on the Advanced DIY home level.

    I had Hansen trays years ago and the deep pegs hit every drawer except the bottom 2 so I cut them down. It worked and you could see the size on the shallow pegs but it bothered me enough to replace them with the harbor freight set

  • @rcud1
    @rcud1 Před rokem +1

    I have some Westling trays and I like them overall, the size engraving they put on them doesn't line up with the sockets and they are not nearly as legible as they should be, so not so easy to read. One other nice thing about the Westlings too is you can get the 2-rail, or 3-rail in standard sizes (such as Metric 8mm-19mm), and you can get the 2-rail in extended sizes.

    I prefer the westling style. I just made a bunch of diy westling knock offs. Not as quality as westling, but exactly what I want. I even made a video about them. The westlings are very space efficient and easy to grab a socket.

    The ernst/tekton does have some wasted space with the trays but I still prefer them as the rails dont fall over in the drawer,the versatility of being able to put different sizes on same rail and you can grab a rail and head under the car. I dont recommend the stickers either especially once you get to the larger sockets you can't see them anyway. Thanks for another great video!

    Those Westling trays look beautiful, but they are way expensive here in the UK, they have to be ordered direct from the company. The Ernst Socket Boss trays are easier to get hold of and a lot more affordable - I bought three sets. I was pleased with how strong the rails and clips are, considering that they're plastic, and it seems like a well thought-out design overall. The only things I don't like so much are that I ended up with loads of 1/2" clips that I'll never use, and yeah, the size stickers don't look like they'll last.

    • @TonyTheTechnician
      @TonyTheTechnician  Před rokem

      Oh ya that's understandable with westling being a little pricey. And ya I agree with the Ernst. I ended up ordering more 1/4 and 3/8 and had alot of 1/2 left over.

      @@TonyTheTechnician I need to put my 1/2" clips on eBay, and let them go to someone who'll use them.

    Capri has not had the trays in stock all summer. Picked up the deWalt 3/8" impact and picked up Capri Deep, Semi-deep, Shallow and stubby. The stubby came withe the foam tray. But the aluminum trays are out of stock
