Pop out words, or words that a child might have said a couple times are key to learning language. Children with autism can springboard off these pop out words and start to gain echoic control and develop language skills. Understanding how to develop language for kids with autism has this as it’s core foundation. Once you start increasing vocalization in toddlers through getting them to say words, you can start to expand the set of words they know and thus, expand communication.
It’s important to note that these tips for increasing language that I’m covering today isn’t going to be easy, or once and done type of thing. Autism and talking requires a lot of practice, dedication, and sometimes it can take weeks or months to see some progress. That’s why I’m providing a wide range of tips from autism fill in songs to early learner programs like my shoebox program. So start implementing these strategies today to start turning autism around for your child or client with autism.

My son didn’t really start talking until he was four. He is almost six now. The way I get him to say “I love you” is through the song technique. I use the “skinamarinkydinkydink” song and have him finish the end. He really loves the moon so that was the first part I left out. He still only speaks with echolalia but it’s very expanded now. It’s so nice to understand more what he wants and his perspective. He’s very rigid though in that he needs us to repeat everything he says or he melts down. I’m not sure if that will ever go away and it makes it difficult to talk to others because most people don’t respond that way.

My son has autism and he is now 10yrs old. He was echolalic during his early diagnosis at 6. what we did is we keep on conversing with him and talk slowly so he can grasp things at his own pace. We also treat him at his age and don't baby talk. He only takes an Occupational Therapy because we can't afford a speech therapy. So we really strive conversing with him. As of now, he can now communicate with us and express his feelings and continue improving..
Thank you I found your channel and you are a great help to us.

Hi Dr Barbera, I am an SLP and has benefited a lot from your CZcams videos, free workshops etc. I work with young and middle aged adults with intellectual disability and some of them has autism. I used to feel helpless at times when got stuck...I could relate more to my guys in this video...A 25 yr old young man has only initial syllable production cu/ for cup, ta, sh, etc. receptive language good for vocabulary. Will the early learner program be still good as I saw it was for 0-18 months language age group??
So Tip 4&5 VM might help right To expand to one full word utterance? I’m going to share your channel and this video to his father. Any more suggestions please? Thank you

I tried to watch the web inarticulate today and the phone overheated and I lost it. Watched the 3 kids synopsis and all of it relates to my primary pediatric night nursing assignment, I've had him for 10 years and there's so much locked in there. Also a grandson with microencephalopathy but also some subtle autistic traits and non verbal. I keep watching your videos and hear you saying you have techniques, but never see them demonstrated. Is there a meat and potatoes video I can look at before I think about investing in your book? Both kids go to a special needs school in Delaware and I've been through special teachers st ot pt without being impressed with any tools they had for nursing staff or family members..

I discovered that my son suffers from autism at the age of one and a half, and today he is about six years old, and since that day, while I am treating him today, I feel that he is smart, but he does not speak, and does not go to the bathroom for the day. How does he turn on the computer but he cannot control the mouse, he knows to open CZcams on the phone, and if he does not find it, he searches for it around the house until he finds the things he wants, he searches for it at length until he finds it. A reference to everything, knowing that the hearing and speech examination indicates that he is healthy. I used a lot of means, but the improvement is small. I am a worker. I just sit with him all day on holidays and send my son

what's the earliest I should start practicing words with my boy? He's not interested in echoing or "chatting" with me (babbling) at all. He has very little understanding, I think (he would understand 'where is apple' - would look at it, if it's obviously around, but would not go to look for it, if it wasnt in his eyesight). but if I ask him can you get me this ball, he will not react at all... He's 18mts.
