  • The Tudor Pelagos FXD - A Pure Tool Watch Through And Through
I have to admit that over the past couple of years I’ve become something of a Tudor fanboy. But, when Tudor released the Pelagos FXD in November 2021 I wasn’t immediately impressed. The watch looked rather big, even for 42mm, and I wasn’t keen on the squared lugs and fixed spring bars. Overall, my first impressions were that the watch was an oddly proportioned ugly duckling.
But, each time I’ve seen one in person, it’s grown on me to the point where I’m actually considering getting one. And the reason that I’ve grown to quite like the Pelagos FXD is that it’s so much nicer in the flesh than Tudor’s marketing suggests.

Great review, thanks! Tudor does offer the strap in three sizes so you could always pick up the shorter version. The FXD is one of my favorite/best wearing watches in my seven watch collection. Highly recommended.

Thanks! And that's good to know. It's frustrating they don't mention that anywhere on their website. Also, would you have to pay extra even if buying a new one? That seems a bit harsh if so 😂

I like the Velcro strap but I also have mine on the green/yellow MN strap and it fits the watch perfectly! It is finding more and more wrist time!

The velcro strap is well made, it's just not to my tastes. I bet it looks fantastic on the MN strap. 👌

While it's not one I'd ultimately choose personally (I prefer bracelets) I have tried one on and much prefer the slimmer dimensions and more muted blue colourway compared to its bigger brother. Still a very cool watch.

Great review and subscribed. Your videography is excellent!
For the FXD, Nick Mankey's hook and loop strap would work wonderfully. It doesn't pass under the watch so it's on-the-wrist height would go down quite a bit.

my father lost his rolex when the spring bar failed...i vowed to find a watch with fixed spring bars from that day.... And I can´t stand those sweaty stinking steel bracelets!! I just wish it was in black though...

Thanks! As to the Seiko, I'm afraid I can't comment as I've never seen it in person. My advice would be to try one on and if you like it, buy it!

is it just me, or is the triangle marker at 12 off a bit? i think it's to the left of the tudor shield and even the minute hashes!

Firstly, I’ve owned all Pelagos models and I have an 8.5” wrists. I agree that the blue is a nicer tone than the OG Pelagos, however, that where I’d have to stop agreeing.
    - The bidirectional bezel action is poor
    - It wears very thick because you have to wear it on a pass through strap so it wears as thick or thicker than the OG Pelagos
    - The lug to lug is huge at 52mm and it wears huge on a 8.5” wrist so it will wear large in smaller wrists
    - The loss of the superb bracelet on the OG Pelagos is a shame as it is one of the best in the business and the straps aren’t great quality, and while going from 500m to 200m won’t affect anyone
    - To say its not a big deal is silly as it would be like saying if the DeepSea went to a 500m it doesn’t matter, which it would because it’s not the DNA of the watch.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. I've small wrists, and I find that the FXD wears better than the other Pelagos, even with the pass through strap. Sure, it's large, but it's not too big for me. If you really want the extra water resistance, then there's the standard Pelagos, but I won't need more than 200m.
