    The new Saucony Peregrine 12 is a fun, nimble trail shredder that is a complete redesign of the popular offering from the brand. While I don't think it's perfect and certainly lends itself to shorter or faster efforts, it is a fun shoe to take out and shred. What do YOU think of the new Peregrine 12?

    I got a pair of these in late Feb and absolutely love them. They soften up nicely after the first few runs and are good for road to trail too. I am not a fast runner and they make me feel light on my feet and nimble. Have taken them up to 17km (10.5 miles) so far and can't find fault with them. Highly recommended!

    A GR review day is always a good day. I have the 12's - my first Peregrines. They are nippy speedsters and hoot to run in. Very springy and agile once I clocked about 15 miles in them

    @jessebutler9352 Před 2 lety +4

    This reminds me of the old 1-5 peregrines. Remember back in the early 2010s when a shoe with 20mm-ish of cushioning was big?

  • @MichaelHilliard

    Just snagged my pair a little while ago and they were my very best friend on a classic PNW wet, rocky, root filled 20 mile run up and down the Gorge. The tacky grip is real and I was psyched, because I would have slipped a whole lot more without them. Fit is so great for me and I may just be rocking them at 🐯 claw.

    Great review! This is exactly what I've experienced when I reviewed them on multi-terrain. I normally review carbon plated shoes at the running track (you can watch my videos), but a pair of trail shoes like these is a "must have" in the rotation of a runner.

  • @arp12tube
    @arp12tube Před 2 lety +2

    I've had Peregrines in the rotation for a couple years now, and this one definitely feels the most lightwight and nimble. At the same time, they had enough cushion underfoot to comfortably get me through the first half of the Zane Grey 100K, and they even kept my toenails looking normal! For me this shoe is a great balance. Crossing my fingers the durability holds up long term.

    Agreed almost 100%, I WILL say that if you are a Beast Coast daily trail trainer like myself, the Peregrine is almost the perfect shoe for that purpose. On mixed technical, oftentimes muddy terrain, this shoe is a hoss. I didn't have the same durability concerns as and am not noticing anything after 100 miles in them but who's to say!

  • @matthewsanders6499
    @matthewsanders6499 Před 3 měsíci

    Absolutely jazzed with this shoe. The upper is outstanding, and even for my slightly wide, slightly high-arch foot, they run true to size. They are responsive, stable, and super grippy. The rock plate adds protection but even more, I find that it really plants your mid-foot and gives great lateral stability and ground feel. They are *not* the most plush ride so if you are looking for a long distance or road-to-trail option, I would look elsewhere. But the decreased cushion adds to the nimble, fast ride. These things just disappear on your feet and you feel locked in to even highly technical terrain. They do *almost* everything you would want a trail shoe to do, and if you are down for a quick, responsive shoe I think you will like 'em.

  • @Ecoroof1986
    @Ecoroof1986 Před 2 lety +2

    Great review it's a great shoe. I've now done over 150km in the 12's. Two trail half marathons in them and a technical 10mile trail race last Saturday. I had 3 pairs of the 10's and a pair of the ST version and 1 pair of the 11's which I sold after 2 runs. The 11's for me were heavy and felt cumbersome underfoot. The 12's are a huge improvement as they feel fast and nimble. The new insole is way way better than the old version as the 'inner' insole worked its way loose on all of my 10's so I used an Inov8 insole in them. The 10's and 12's are very similar in how they feel and perform. Both a great shoe for technical ground. What's your thoughts on these against the Tecton X?
    I posted a review on the 12's a few weeks ago.

    Excellent review, thanks. You said it's not "If you're looking for that daily trainer, this isn't necessarily my first choice". Out of interest, what would your choice be? I'm using this trainer currently as my trail shoe and agree that it's nimble, but for a regular trail shoe, think more cushioning would be good. Great channel!

    Can testify to the durability concerns... Absolutely love the shoe, great for me up to marathon distance so far with excellent grip, underfoot protection and way more nimble than the 11's, but sadly blown through the seams on the inside of the forefoot after 200km's.

  • @fynthemtns
    @fynthemtns Před 2 lety

    I have 140 miles in the Pere 11s and I agree, they're a great shorter distance fast shoe. Seems like with the new version they have leaned into that. I've done a few 12 mile runs lately and the comfort does start to become an issue towards the end and that's on the older, slightly more plush version. As far as durability goes, if they are using the same outsole material as the 11, I think they'll last a LONG time. I see and feel nearly no wear after 140 miles. The new upper may cause issues though. I'll be picking up the Speedgoat 4 for ultra trail distances for more comfort - very curious about a plush trail offering from Saucony, maybe an updated Endorphin Trail that doesn't fall apart lol?

    absolutely love these shoes. got mine in February and have about 150 miles on them, including some long runs (10-20miles). the main complaint i have, which is a big one, is that the upper completely blew out and they are nearly unwearable now. the midsole and outsole are mostly fine though, so it’s definitely a disappointment

    Bought these after enjoying the 10s but wish I hadn’t precision fit can also be described as narrow I exchanged these for the boring black wide version & still getting rubbing on the little toe ! Basically they came in for criticism as the 11 s getting heavier so they shaved weight smaller lugs less cushioning & narrow fit! But I don’t think they’ve improved it still seen pictures of the 13 & they’ve gone for more cushioning!

  • @DewaldvanNiekerk
    @DewaldvanNiekerk Před 2 lety

    I'm one of those Peregrine die-hards. I've been running in each version since the 7. I agree with Ethan especially on the midfoot-fit. I have very wide feet and I do not get as a comfortable fit as with the Peregrine 10s for instance. The midsole has also been incorporated into the insole, which is a bit thicker. BUT, you do feel they have compromised comfort. I have used my previous Peregrines for 100km+ races but I am a bit reluctant to try those distances in this shoe. I imagine doing a hack by putting in the midsole of a pervious version under the insole and see of this bring more long distance comfort.

      I just got mine and the mid sole width is too tight for me, on the regular width/fit. I asked the customer service chat rep about wider shoes (because I need to exchange) as I love my canyon TR and rides. Any recommendations on other saucony shoes that are wider in the regular fit?

    I'm minded to get these as new trail runners, on the basis that I have had two pairs of Saucony Road runners - so I'd have thought Saucony sizing works well for me. I'm minded to stick with what I know works for me. Never had saucony trail runners though.
    Is that a wise move or silly?
    Thanks

  • @Anachkin_Adventures

    I've got 2 pairs of those - one is gore-tex and there's nothing bad I could say about it, except about its limited breathability, but that's kind of normal for a gtx shoe, I guess. The second pair is really great, I like a lot how the shoes feel on my feet. But there are two dislikes I'd like to share and to hear if I'm the only one experiencing those. The first thing is that the outsole got pretty beaten up quite fast (after not so many kilometers) on rocky mountain terrain. It looked twisa as used after 180 km as the outsole of my gore-tex pair looked after 350 km (but without so many rocks). I conclude that this shoe is rather for softer terrain, like trails in the woods, mud etc. The secold issue I have with the non-gtx pair is it's quite weak mesh. I'm just a bit over 500 km in this pair and there are literraly some holes on the upper of the shoe. The mesh seems to tear quite easily. Does anyone else have a similar experience?

They already tearing up so the mesh sucks. The heel is absolutely worthless and broke down after a few runs on them and now causing blisters (missing the 10 on this issue, which had the absolute perfect heel cushion) so I would say to the peregrine fans, don’t buy.
