    Some of us buy a 4Runner BECAUSE it's dated. We want tried and true reliability. The killer looks and off-road performance are just an added bonus. In fact, I'm glad I bought the 2019 4R TRD Pro before they started adding silly sensors. Give me a real truck that can go anywhere and I'm happy. But that's just me.

    • @paulelledge8977
      @paulelledge8977 Před rokem

      It could be just as reliable with a 6 or 8 speed transmission. Also, it's near the top of the SUV reliability charts but it's not like it's number one. I'm thinking about getting one to replace my Honda Ridgeline but when looking at reliability it's good. Listening to 4runner fanatics it's the most reliable vehicle ever made. It could easily get better cameras, a better screen, and better MPG and not lose reliability. Hopefully the new gen will do just that.

    People need to stop complaining about the drivetrain.Its perfected for reliability.When I buy a Toyota I’m buying it because it’s slow as fuck and reliable.I have the same drivetrain in my FJ.Reason why it’s got over 400,000 miles on it.I have other vehicles for going fast

    Put a 10 speed trans in it, and you lose its durabillity. Ive never had any issues with my 2011 4 runner hunting gears. As long as it lasts nearly forever im satisfied. Thats why you pay for a 4 runner and tacoma anyways. That long term durabillity is what makes a car worth buying. Being able to reliably start it up for 10 to 15 years with no issues is what makes toyotas so great.

I’ve had to limp home a few times after having some fun in the snow lol. But they are unbelievably reliable. As nice as some other cars are I don’t think I’ll ever not buy a Toyota

    I absolutely love mine. The 4runner has never been better. I love how people think they know better than Toyota engineers when it comes to the engine and transmission. I like the old school touches like the transfer case shifter. My only complaint is the push button start.

      Adam, if the company can build things like the LF-A and LC 500, they can figure out how to put a better drivetrain in the 4Runner.

      @@BrianMakse Brian, whether or not Toyota COULD improve the 4R is not the point. Why would they spend money they don’t have to spend? They are a business, and that business is doing great by selling a 15 year old platform. If people stopped buying them, that would be a different story. There’s a reason Toyota does this-same reason they sell 36 year old 70 series land cruisers new in Australia. People want them, and no one else seems to be able to build them.

    Nice job. Never get tired of watching reviews on 4R TRD Pro. I've seen so many videos I ordered a Lunar Rock 3 months ago and still no word from the factory. It doesn't matter to me that it's 270 hp / 5 speed... it's the last of its breed. The 6Gen 4R could be sporting a hybrid engine, not a big fan. In any case, this truck is a keeper (full discloser I'm ordering a Bronco WildTrak just for nostalgia 😁) and maybe, just maybe I'll get a SuperCharger. 👍

    Former 4Runner owner for 14 years. As soon as it gets a more modern engine, like a 3.0 V-6 turbo, and a modern transmission, like an 8 spd auto, would consider another one. As Toyota refuses to update this vehicle beyond cosmetics, and will never happen, I won't own another. Still, proud to own my 2004 for as long as I did (and did much of the maintenance myself that got it through so many years).

    I gotta be honest, I’ve been pining away for another 4Runner since my kids (and dogs and their friends and stuff) forced the sale of my shrinking ‘92. Been telling myself for almost two decades that at the first opportunity, I’d ‘downsize’ to another 4Runner. Driving the 2022 TRD Pro had enough of a nostalgic, utilitarian feel, with just enough modern amenities… I was sold instantly. It really takes me back (and hopefully back up into some Washington wilderness). The fact that Toyota is going smaller, lighter, small displacement turbo made the decision even easier. Waiting for my 2022 to arrive in the 1st quarter of 2023 (thanks COVID). But definitely excited to get back into a modern classic.

I do appreciate that about Toyota's, knowing they will not end up in a landfill after only 10 years. I'm curious tho, have you driven a TRD off road w the KDSS? Great at what it does, but $30k too much. With tax in Canada this Truck is over $70k. With a black hole of plastic interior and fake leather seats it is a joke for that kind of money. You are in GX460 range at this price. Toyota needs to do a much better job with interiors for the 6th gen 4Runner. If you have ever sat in a RAV4 Trail you know what you are missing.

    Absolutely no good reason to ever buy a Pro unless you just so happen to like to spend $10k more for a color. All of the crap they put on a Pro you’re just going to rip off and replace with a lift and more off-road capable parts so why waste the money?

      @@BrianMakse Why would you buy a Pro if you don’t off-road? Why would you buy a Pro if you do off-road as you’ll simply remove all the crap Toyota puts on it. The only answer is ‘color’ which is a pretty lame reason.

      @BrianMakse  Před 3 lety

      OK, Mr Hardcore Off Road. There’s clearly only one reason to drive a 4Runner, which is whatever yours is.

      @@BrianMakse no, just admit that if you buy a Pro, you’re buying it for color. If you can justify an extra &10k for color, all power to you but again, that’s the only reason. A spade is a spade. I’ve worked with a lot of off-road shops and the stories of guys coming in all proud of their Pros only to learn that they wasted $10k on stuff getting stripped off to truly do anything off-road are legendary.
