Kodak Ultramax 400 Review - Is this film a good alternative to pricey Portra 400?

  • I am a big fan of Kodak Ultramax 400. This 35mm film stock is quite appropriately priced and offers valuable characteristics that make it worth your time. Kodak Ultramax 400 definitely isn't perfect and has some flaws to reckon with. Nonetheless, it should occupy a spot in your film photography kit.

    Content like this is exactly what I need as someone who's just getting into this hobby. The direct statements about the pros and cons and the use cases of different film stocks. Especially for someone who's budget conscious, it helps me decide how to spend my hobby cash.

    Solid content as always 👍I really like the warmth and feel Ultramax 400 gives compared to Fuji's offerings in that price range. I have yet to shoot any of Kodak's professional color film but I am curious to see if Portra lives up to the hype.

    • @ribsy
      @ribsy  Před 4 lety +2

      agreed! this film def is a bit more inviting and warm. portra may feel overrated based on the price, but it definitely is good at what it does. at the end of the day, the film/camera doesn't matter as much as the photographer 😊

      Doing Film Things the live chat was definitely worthwhile, a lot of food for thought. I’m probably older that a lot of the audience but your comments about engaging and really understanding what you are voting for is absolutely vital. I’ve always used my vote, it’s not really that long ago that women had to fight to be able to vote at all and I am forever grateful to have this freedom.I have two ‘kids’ both early twenties and I have always encouraged them to vote, I do believe a lot of good change can come if the power of the voters is harnessed in the right direction. I know a lot of younger people don’t believe that their vote will count for, or change anything but there absolutely is power in numbers!

    I agree that Ultramax 400 is a great general use film. The color is always reliable and I am able to work with it well in Lightroom after scanning. I think a lot of people go with the over exposed look with portra which gives it that pastel colour. Kodak Ultra Max is pretty vibrant and saturated off the back so when you go to over exposed it the white detail would completely vanish knowing it doesnt handle harsh light well.
