  • A worrying trend under Arteta has been the amount of red cards Arsenal have received, hopefully Holding's red against Tottenham won't impact our hopes of a top 4 finish.

      @@thelittleowl1 The ones that I think are harsh you've pretty much mentioned. The Luiz one against Wolves by all means give a foul and a penalty, but the contact was the faintest of touches and it was completely accidental. Very harsh to give a red there IMO.
      The other ones I feel were harsh was the Gabriel one on Jesus vs. City (worthy of a yellow maybe in its own right, but I still think he's not done much there to warrant a yellow, if I recall it was immediately (like a minute) after he got a yellow for arguing with the ref over the City penalty that was awarded, he's put his hands on him yes but it wasn't a total obstruction and he wasn't the last man either. Had the ref said something along the lines of "final warning, next one and I'm sending you off" then that would have been much more prudent game management).
      The other one I'd argue with is the Luiz one on Mahrez vs. City. Last man yes, he's put his hand on his shoulder but I feel like Mahrez went down far too easily, he didn't drag him down or anything. A yellow there was all that was really required.

    • @thebhoyfromarsenal1653
      @thebhoyfromarsenal1653 Před 2 lety +1

      @@thelittleowl1 The Xhaka one on Diogo Jota I'd also argue with. I don't think Xhaka was fully aware of where Jota was, he also doesn't catch him with his studs or anything. Was clumsy but not malicious.
      Look we can debate these issues all day but it's not whether they're worthy of reds or not, all of these can be argued as reds in one way or another, it's the lack of universal standards that makes us Arsenal fans frustrated. We don't mind these being red cards if it applies to everyone. All the time we see players getting away with a booking of a foul for much more than the fouls I've just mentioned. Now I know a lot of Arsenal fans like to get in the conspiratorial mindset, I'm not like that, I feel like it's the refs having a subconscious bias against certain players that have a reputation behind them (Luiz and Xhaka come to mind). However there's incidents over the years that Arsenal fans remember such as when Mane elbowed Tierney in the face, Godfrey stamped on Tomiyasu's face, McCarthy kicked Saka's calf etc. All only yellows but a lot of what's shown in the video here is much, much less and they still got a red.
