I legit had no idea they weren't the same until I read this comment and rewatched the video lol. It depends what kind of movie it is. Something that gets a low audience score because "it's boring" can still be very good obviously and will probably get critical acclaim if it is well made.
For more mainstream movies like The Last Jedi, though, I don't buy that line of thinking so much.
I guess he knows there is a difference between 'critic scores' for a $500 million Hollywood product (where $200million of that goes to 'marketing / advertising') ^ ^
and
Film Critic Scores for solid, well made, non mega-marketed movies.
Spy Kids, Babe, Antz and many more have much higher critic scores than audience scores.
Depends on what movie it is really. Low audience scores but high critical reception for some gigantic hollywood blockbuster is suspicios
Drog .NDTrax they are not the weird, edgy divisive films that Mike talked about. They are mainstream family movies. It sounds like Mike was thinking they would be Lynch movies or cerebral horror. But critics tend to not like genre movies like horror, sci-fi or action, which Mike tends to like (as scene by botw)
As the great Bill Shatner pointed out, this channel is monetized. I think all the profits from these videos should be donated to the Dick the Birthday Boy Foundation. Do the right thing RLM. It's what all self respecting podcasts should do.

I thought the same thing a quarter century ago after watching that Xena, Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo episode.

I guarantee you'll be able to find fiction about people being trapped in time loops as far as thousands of years back. Unfortunately, I'm not a very well-read or cultured, so I don't know any examples beyond... the TNG episode and Groundhog Day.

Concerning Horse Girl: Brie's character's delusions are triggered by water (dripping, flowing, etc) because of her finding her mother in the shower. Most of the moments that feel supernatural are actually activated by the sound or appearance of water which basically confirms shes just sick.

This is literally the first time I've ever seen someone not recommend Palm Springs, everyone I've talked to loved it. It is kind of slight but... sometimes that's what you want from that kind of thing. Very much agreed on Relic though, it's fantastic.

Hot Rod is one of my favorite movies of all time. It never fails to make me laugh. And there's always a subtler touch that you don't notice on previous viewings. Can't reccomend it highly enough

It's actually an interesting case and a fascinating part of film history.
I would like RLM to review Color Out of Space and Extra Ordinary. Two films that hit the independent festival circuit or was released internationally in 2019 but came out in the US in 2020. I thoroughly enjoyed them both and would like to see their takes on those films.
Color Out of Space was good and had its moments but ultimately fell short from what it could have been. It's sad cuz it had Nicolas Cage and Richard Stanley and yet somehow manage to have so much generic Hollywood horror moments.
Extra Ordinary on the other hand was pure joy full of dark and weird humor.

Watched Palm Springs on a whim last night with my gf. We both loved it!
Quarantine has allowed me to catch up on a few of the films made in the last 100 years or so. Not that those films matter, since only new things are worth caring about.

Lemon holds a special place of contempt in my heart. I saw it at a midnight screening at Sundance a few years back. Had to walk through a blizzard just for the privilege of sitting in front of a coughing dude in the theater. Not surprisingly, I got the flu two days later. So maybe it just caught me in a bad mood, but I remember wanting to strangle this movie and dump it in a ditch.

Interesting, as redbox, netflix and all streamers can, even blockbuster video had an ownership stake in viacom, that made straight to video movies for them.

I love red letter media, but Palm springs has a ton of undercurrents of metaphor and symbolism, I'm kind of upset they didn't pick up on that sort of stuff, because the whole point was that it's a romantic comedy but more so. I'll still love and watch them forever
