@@asifexisted "tenet" is a palindrome, meaning it is the same read forwards and backwards, so either way.

I haven’t seen TENET yet, but it’ll be out on disc shortly so not long now. Love Chris Nolan’s films, but at this point, I’m kinda hoping he’ll drop the non linear-puzzle box style of storytelling that he’s become known for. Believe it or not, but we had a Chinese exchange program a couple of years ago and one of them was squatting ON TOP of the toilet like they would in China, because there they mainly still have French toilets aka just a hole in the floor. We knew because he told us it was so difficult to balance on our kind of toilets and then asked us why they're shaped like that lol

When Mike mentioned editing I actually was thinking a lot of the first Borat. If you watch him sing the national anthem at the rodeo, there are cuts periodically to people loudly booing. Then there are cuts back to him singing, and you can see the audience behind him, and they are NOT visibly booing... they are kinda just standing there. Definitely filmed at different times (maybe from later in the song?). I agree that there was more editing/ADR in the sequel, but I think the first movie had a bunch too.

I have a feeling none of these hidden camera movies would work without extensive fibbing like that.

After we found poopy tp mounds in our bathroom trash, my parents explained to us kids our plumbing is good enough to flush TP to theirs back home didnt or simply didnt have plumbing. And my parents knew this because they have visited some really poor areas in other countries. I remember the poopy trash stopped so apparently my parents bothered to explain.
The fact that one lady cared enough to explain how to use the toilet was literally just accepting Borat was from a different place. It wasnt looking down on the guy. If anything you guys are looking down on her for simply believing a man was a from a really foreign place she didnt understand but helped out.
Anwelei yes it also ignores a trend back then before the borat release where the US had programs on stuff like PBS showing people from really poor countries escaping to the US. They say that none of the acting or characters in Bly Manor were stand out bad, but as someone that lives in Yorkshire in England, I have to say Carla Gugino's attempt at the accent put me off so bad it almost ruined the entire show.
And I as a german have seen so many movies, considered great in america that include people speaking german with such strong american accents, that I would call distracting. But they are and still will be great because those aspects are very unimportant and dont really matter when viewing the performance of the actors.
@@Hahablubxd Different though when you're introducing a foreign language. I mean sure it's better to have authenticity, but an English speaking person doing an English regional accent is kind of important to get done accurately. I've watched many foreign shows and movies that have a person pretending to be English or American, in fact I'm watching an Egyptian show on TV right now called Paranormal and one of the actresses is trying to do a Scottish accent even though she's Lebanese. I mean we've all seen Japan attempt English, it's terrible, but it's also kind of funny. Carla Gugino attempting accents isn't funny though, it's just really bad. The other members did a decent job. Oliver Jackson-Cohen did a convincing Scottish accent for Peter Quint.
@@Hahablubxd Game of Thrones is a good example. All of the North in that show have a Yorkshire accent, and although it's got a twist of medieval to it, much of it sounds like how people around me speak. Sean Bean obviously is native to Yorkshire, but the actors for Jon Snow and Ygritte are not from Yorkshire, they're from London and Scotland and they do the accent very convincingly. There's also many foreign actors including Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who plays Jamie Lanister and his accent is convincing.
The difference that is important to note here is that if the cast and crew all speak English then it's important to nail English accents. As for if you're teaching an English/American actor German or any other languge for a role there's only a limited amount of people that can coach him and know how convincing the accent is. Does this make sense?
@@DirEnGay I'm not sure if you're right about it beeing important, but if you're native to the accent/language, those bad attempts will take you out of the experience.
But I think that's a UK problem, almost nobody else will care about - similar to the bad German in US shows and movies. That's only relevant if you know how it's supposed to sound.
@@patiencebear I mean English actors also botch US accents and as a non-American person I can still recognise a good or bad job. I speak Japanese too, so when I hear a foreigner speak with convincing Japanese regional accents I can recognise good from bad just as well as a Japanese person speaking English and trying to convince me he's from Liverpool or Manchester. Vinnie Jones is in a Japanese movie called Survive Style 5+ and his lines are pathetic. He's not the best actor ever anyway but because he was obviously surrounded by a Japanese crew there was likely nobody on set that could recognise how well he delivered his lines in English so he wasn't asked to re-shoot his lines. I do think that foreign languages in your movie get a pass somewhat though as it's very difficult to coach or monitor the accent without a good crew to analyse it that are native in both languages. Surely people not native to England found Carla Gugino's accent to be strange even if they're not familiar with Yorkshire?
Thanks for keeping us entertained!
I just discovered red letter media and I think I'm addicted to this channel already. The cool thing is I have about 200 episodes to watch!
Have fun!
Welcome to your new life of cynicism and long-term depression :D At least there’s alcohol!
Watch the plinkett star wars videos immediately
Check out their Nerd Crew videos, they're spoofs of the fandom shows like Collider and Screen Junkies!
I was you 5 years ago, took months to catch up back then
"If you need to use the restroom" i'm already on the throne.
For real! Do they think that I stream this shit on my tv!?!? 95% of RLM is consumed while shitting
timed it absolutely perfect, freaked me out
"You think you own the restroom but you only adopted it. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't exit the toilet until I was in my teens."
I gotta say even with out seeing Greg Sesterro’s face you can tell it’s him, that voice is unmistakeable
it's kind of amazing that even though i have no interest in either movies, just watching these elderly couple have a discussion around them for 1 hour brims me with joy.
Jay's not elderly, he's in his prime.
Welcome to parasocial relationships
I always thought borat 2 and the haunting of bly manor is the scariest borat yet
I love how so much of RLM's content just randomly segues into other conversations about other things; watched this episode never thinking I'd see them perfectly sum up why so many reality show cooking episodes feel exactly the same but they did.
Mike's accent when he says "ghost' = **chef's kiss**
I’m surprised Jay didn’t mention The Innocents as the best turn of the screw adaptation
I would definitely risk going into a theater to see Mike's version of Tenet.
TenT would be a blockbuster
TeneNt
the movie that revives the theater industry. TenT
Seeing the title of the episode, I'm thinking, "I don't care about either of these movies." Seven minutes into the video, I realize, "Oh good. They don't care about these movies either."
We all know that was whiskey in Mike's cup, not "coffee"
Thank you for these videos guys. I enjoy your thoughts - times like these were I don't wanna watch borat you come in and give a talk about it I often enjoy you guys more than the film itself. Been a subscriber for a year or two now. Keep up the good work.
Well, I hope the next "The Haunting of..." in the series is, "The Haunting of Zak Bagans' Haunted Museum"
Will it have Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson?
Please God let this be true.
You can never have enough Ghost Adventures in your life.
The movie that mike described sounds like a good idea for a sequel to The Prestige.
Sounds like Mike's movie would be a big... tentpole movie.
Miek and Jay truly are heroes, indeed
Nice! Perfect start to my day
Dont you mean ....VERY NICE start to your day? Il see myself out.
A RLM hits the spot in the morning just as much as a cup of Maxwell House Coffee. Both are good till the last drop.
It's actually a Bulgarian actress that plays Borat's daughter, ties in nicely with that Bulgarian circus from the start of the show :D
I'm absolutely astounded that you talked about Greg from The Room being in Bly Manor but didn't even mention the fact that Garth Merenghi was the kids' dad. Where is the Darkplace love?
So cool that Mike got to sit down and talk with David Spade
