Kaleb, in 100 years or so someone is going to be talking about you in the same awestruck way as you talk about Mr. Brown because of the great job you’ve done on this restoration.
I love this! I was just thinking the same thing, great comment! ❤
I absolutely agree! You have taken such care to work out what and how restoration should happen that when you implement it, you make it look easy, as in the case of the floor tile in the Shower. I hope to be able to visit St. Louis one day to see the Beauty that you have made shine in your home.
Indeed‼️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Totally agree
I agree with you too. He is so talented.
I dont think anyone will be looking at the shower and saying "are those tiles correct?" They will be saying "you did all this!" 👍👍
Agreed
Major props on the Schluter install and the mosaics. Very well done. There’s an old adage in the trades that imperfections are necessary, because only God is perfect. Tradesmen would intentionally place imperfections so as to not sin against God by trying to be perfect!
I love that old adage!
The tile floor looks amazing Kaleb, I’m sorry to hear about Kim’s accident but glad to hear she’s on the mend. As well as you from your illness
Put a fan in there to vent out that steam. So it doesn't mold up your basement.
Glad to hear Kim is okay, and that you've whipped your own illness. The shower looks great so far. Can't wait to see the mansard progress.
*YES*
So glad Kim was not harmed in the accident and that you are feeling better. Great job on the tile flooring in the shower. It looks beautiful! Thanks for the updates.
The matching tile work is out of this world stunning. And using an authentic ORIGINAL cabinet door for the access door. I. Can’t. Even. As if Caleb hasn’t heard this many, many times. It’s inspiring. And I learn so much in my own history and restoration know-how.
I am so relieved to hear that Kim is ok. Cars can be replaced. Kims cannot be. Sorry Kaleb was sick; I was, too, straight through Christmas. Better now, thankfully.
I wouldn’t worry about the difference between bevelled tiles and flat tiles. The difference in cost makes your choice a no-brainer in my mind. Plus, if you hadn’t told us, I certainly wouldn’t have known about the bevelled tiles. You’re doing your best to restore, but you can only do what makes financial sense.
I’m glad that you & Kim are getting better. Best wishes for an improving 2024.🍀🤞🇨🇦
Everything you've shown us in this video is absolutely gorgeous, Future generations will be talking about Kaleb with awe and amazement! Looking forward to greater progress this year. Hope Kim is okay.
I'm so glad Kim didn't get hurt and that you're feeling better. The progress is super cool!
The panel for the shower shut-off is a great idea. I put one in my house when I put in a new shower and needed to use it within the month to fix a little leak that would have been a sledgehammer moment without it!
Human made as opposed to machine made patterns are never going to be perfect but, just like human faces - totally symmetrical faces are really eerie looking. The asymmetry provides more character and beauty. Love, love, love your shower tile! Missed you over the holidays - really glad Kim is ok!
It makes me proud to see you restore such a beautiful house in my city! We have so many that have been neglected and it's wonderful to see one saved, and especially saved in a way that preserves its history!
I agree. One of these days I'm going to get over there to see their beautiful work.
@@deannespuhl3948 me too!
it's so beautiful. It's a privilege to be a part of this journey with you and the home that you are lovingly restoring. The workmanship, passion for the details and joy is inspiring.
I've been here since almost the beginning of your channel, and I know you said it doesn't feel like you made as much progress as you'd like this year, but you've come SO far in this project as a whole in just a few short years! Especially with all of the skills you've honed and learned, it's such an honor to be on this journey with you. PLEASE don't apologize when life gets in the way of youtube updates - we understand! I'm glad to hear Kim is on the mend!
The shower floor looks GORGEOUS! I'm excited to see what the room looks like when finished.
that floor for the show is iconic. only a mad man like you would think about matching with the room floor
Hello from France. Nice to see you again. I watch your videos because I like your project and how you respect the « old lady » but I come back to watch them you because of your obvious kindness. Don.t be afraid to take your time to work or be sick, we will be here. Keep cool.
That shower floor is spectacular! Really well done, Kaleb! And that goes for all the shower progress. I think you're making great decisions on materials and costs. That finished basement area and the shower weren't original to the home and of a different period. You're close enough with the tile and you can switch out the light if something more period-appropriate comes along, as you said.
Glad you're feeling better and that Kim is okay. 🩷
It looks awesome!!! Mr. LaVelle is such a talented craftsman wood worker! He works miracles! So glad Kim is okay! I have almost been hit in intersections from people running red lights. It pays to take a second to look before you pull out. It has saved me more than once.
Absolutely love the floor. Yes, of course keep the costs down where you can. Normal people won’t care if the tiles are beveled. The light fixture looks good. Can’t wait to see the shower completed. Like that you salvaged a little door for the shutoff access.
Plus, that bevel comes across as verrrry slight. More subtle than the last time I looked at it a year or so ago at Lowe’s.
Guess I'm not normal I love beveled tiles and beveled glass and beveled mirrors...etc...lol
The one thing I really hate about your videos is when they're over. Blessings to you and more longer and weekly videos. Glad the wifey is safe.
Eric and his daughters...his whole shop...are so talented. I love what those old machines can do and someone who appreciates them and knows how to use them has them. Also that there is still people like yourself who wants his work still. Great stuff.
I'm glad that you are feeling better! You needed that time to recover and rest. It's good to have you back!😊
I'm so glad that Kim is okay after her accident. Kaleb, you did an awesome job on the floor of the shower!!
Just a small suggestion. To tie the wall and floor together, switch out the white bullnose with a black bullnose. It will add a nice pop of color to an all white wall.
I agree. It would look great 👍
I agree as well! The black trim will look cherry!
Is it period appropriate?? It would be beautiful, if so
@@lauriivey7801 If you google 1920s bathroom wall tile, you see bathrooms that still have their original tile and an accent band is running the upper 3rd of the tiles. They also show a matching top piece, but I am not sure how easy it is to get that piece in black
Agreed. Some black trimming would be lovely
I’m with you Kaleb. I think the tiling is fantastic and it shows that you’re human. ❤
You’re definitely not the only one who feels that way about imperfections being beautiful. That’s why people still appreciate and buy art made by hand. If they wanted hyper-realistic perfection, they could look at a photo!
Hope you and your wife are okay. I have so much respect for the work you are doing. You make me want a victorian house so badly! I genuinely look forward to your videos.
Oh, dear! You can always get another car, but Kim is totally irreplaceable.
Paint looks beautiful and tile is grrrrreat!
The floor in the shower is looks fantastic, as always you have done an impeccable job. The dorma is looking great too, such skill , time and craftsmanship goes into the restoration of our old buildings, a job worth doing is worth doing right!
Sorry to hear about poor Kim and her bit of bad luck, thank goodness she is okay
Great to see the progress on the needle shower alcove and the beautiful job you did on the mosaic floor Kaleb! Wishing you and yours all the best for 2024.
Good to see another video. Sorry you were ill, glad you’re feeling better. Sorry to hear of Kim’s accident, glad she is ok. Don’t fret too much about being 100% perfect or 100% historically accurate. Look at the shower as a sympathetic restoration. Looks nice!
That image of the shower floor looks slick!
First - I'm glad that Kim is okay after the accident. Second - The green color with the brown is stunning. Great job! Third - love the shower tile floor. I thought you might put in square tiles (on the walls) on an angle to look like the diamonds on the floor. Great Video!
I can never think of any new words to tell you what I think of your house and the work you're doing there. I guess I'll just stick with wow, amazing, gorgeous and stunning. I look forward to watching you again this year. Watching that old house shine again! I love old houses.
The new tiling systems are so helpful in laying out decorative tile designs.
Yes, what is this system? I was trying to figure out the name of the product or method so I could look into it more!
So sorry to hear about Kim’s accident and your illness. The shower is looking wonderful. The sunburst is just stunning and am excited to see it set in place. Always enjoy watching you work and the progress you make. ❤ to you and Kim.
Kaleb: Please don't every worry about gaps between episodes. I'm glad you're both o.k. That's the most important thing.
Beautiful work! And you are so smart to give yourself access to the plumbing. I would put a real door there versus the small cabinet door. You would be glad you did in the long run. Most houses don't put access to plumbing (mine included) and you know you will have to access it one day. A leak will be the most serious incidence. So why it's not building code to have access to your in-the-wall plumbing I don't know.
Glad you are all safe! Scary start, for sure. The shower floor is stunning! It's very obvious that you love your 'old girl' in the best way and I'm always happy to partake in the new videos whenever they show up. Thank you for all you are doing
I was missing you... but life has a way of happening. You are doing a fabulous job. See you again soon... and that shower floor by the way looks fantastic! Oh and glad that Kim is fine! Sorry to hear about the car though...
Great job!! The shower will be beautiful! Don't worry about the tile. Great news you are felling better. Take care you guys!!
The schluter systems are so nice! And good job getting those little tiles spaced so well! Setting little tiles can be such a pain!
Glad y'all are okay, so sorry for all you've been through
Glad to hear you and Kym are doing ok now. I was wondering if everything was ok. 🙏❤
Oh, Caleb. This is amazing and gorgeous. Great job.
I'm glad y'all are both okay. Looks like you're getting all the bad stuff out of the way at the beginning, so you won't have to deal with any more of it the rest of the year. Fingers crossed!
amazing look on the sunburst, i cant wait to see it up! shower floor looks beautiful.
I'm a seamstress and I do many redesign of different types of garments. Well it's like what you're doing and things just work huh? Love your style and your brilliant historical stories to your house! But of course your channel. What a difference you've made in just a few years! Happy New Year!
Shower floor looks great!!
Love the floors you have done this, and the bathroom upstairs too. Great job
Looking really good. Glad Kim's OK.
Great job on the shower pan! Best wishes to Kim.
Fantastic job on the shower, Kaleb! I love it!
Looks Beautiful!
Wow beautiful tile work you are so talented
Every project you do is perfection
Do any of the old showers you looked at have a vent attached to the grate? How would you prevent the moisture from the steam rotting surrounding wood or causing mold? Or a fan? Yes it should look as authentic as possible, but also precautions taken to remain safe and to prevent future damage to the work you've already done. 😮
So happy Kim is OK and you are feeling better. Star burst is just so beautifully done as are the scrolls. The tile floor you creates is stunning. Your talents keep shining!
That gable fan is lovely! I like how the light plays off of the shadows on it. The brown is a nice accent color on it too. Excellent job on the tile job for the shower floor. I appreciate the imperfections of the gaps, just like in the old days. There's something very inauthentic and sterile with the uniformity of modern tile patterns that are premade by machine.
Also with marble for the shower walls, did you check with Phenix Marble Company in Phenix, Mo (just north of Springfield)? All of that gray marble that is inside public buildings, particularly for bathroom stall walls, was supplied by this place back in the early half of the 20th century. Not sure what they could do for a price for you.
Thank you for sharing the progress on your beautiful home. All the best to you and Kim in the coming year. Greetings from Albuquerque, NM!
Schluter systems seem to be the new gold standard in waterproofing for tub and shower surrounds. We replaced a huge newer tub in our 1901 Greek Revival with a walk-in shower (we're getting older) about 2 and 1/2 years ago.Contracter, with 70 years experience, said that's the way to go. It seems to be holding up very well and it's on the 2nd floor. Tile looks absolutely wonderful! Fantastic job! It matches so well!
That is the true beauty of the historical items. They are NOT cookie cutter. Each item speaks to the person and the vision they had along with the inventory at their disposal. Most were not craftsmen, just someone with a vision.
Happy New Year Everyone! The Shower Floor Tiles are looking amazing! I am so excited to see how the complete shower looks in the End! ✨
Thank you for taking the time to keep making content despite life throwing you some curveballs. I know despite these hardships this is going to be an amazing year for you and Kim and the House. Look forward to many more videos and life updates! A Happy New Year to you and your family (Doggos included of course)!
Everything you do its always so great! Just love it! ❤️
amazing progress!!! watching you work is very satisfying because i always find that you make all the right choices, even when they are compromises! Also i can really picture a 1920s or early 20th century iron frame bed in that room, to go with the sort of 'clinical' aspect
Hello Kaleb... Happy New Year. Omg.. Thank God Kim is OK. Your Shower is exquisite! That will be very nice when finished. That pan flooring is sooo nice. I love the Greek Key pattern. Looking forward to what's next. Hugs Kaleb and Kim.
Nice detail work on the wood trim and tile work! Good video! I remember when I said the Charels Brown house was an 8 to 10 year project, but now, since COVID-19, things have changed drastically in supplies and prices. Now I see a 10-20 restoration project. I wish I wasn't broke like you. I would help you. I have a mental link to your project house. Charels's wife looked exactly like my Aunt Judith when she was in her late 20's.
I'm so pleased that you are feeling better and that Kim was not hurt in the car accident.
So so glad you and Kim are doing good after all you guys have been through lately. Amazing job on the shower! Love watching the updates. That being said, I am surprised you were able to get so much done. Happy New Year to both of you.
I love doing tile work. It looks so nice.
Oh and George Vanderbilt had a needle shower in his gym at Biltmore in Asheville NC
Was that in the basement? I recall having seen one before. (somewhere)🤭
I saw that too and I knew what it was because of this channel
Hi Kaleb you did a beautiful job on the shower, love the tile matches the floor.
Glad Kim was ok. Happy New Year to you both
Happy New Year you two. Glad both of you are in good health (cars can be replaced). The wait for this vid? It was well worth it. Beautiful work, just beautiful. Your tiles look as if they were laid by hand, which is pure period (and a compliment). Solid job on the shower enclosure build, you've used great materials. Waiting for the next one.
Great work! One step closer to showering at home
Kaleb, NEVER worry about us getting upset if you don’t post a video, FAMILY ALWAYS FIRST!!
I am SO grateful that Kim is ok!! I’m so sorry however about your car Kim, if you’re like me you get attached a bit to your car. Hugs!
That shower floor ❤❤❤ So perfect!!!
The sunburst is georgeous!!! I wouldn't loose any sleep over the shower side tile. Not one person in a million would ever notice.
love the sticky net to create your own tile motif... never seen that here in Montréal!! This is so exciting!! Happy New year!!
Everything is looking beautiful! When I did my bathroom floor, hexagonal marble tiles, I was being very precise, taking my time, and at some point, I must've put my hand on tiles I'd already put down and they moved, I didn't catch it till after the mortar set, a minor thing, probably no one else will notice, but I do.. 😆 you may want to find a way to attach a vent fan to that shower, get that vapor outside!
It's going to be fun to see what's in store for this year. Happy New year guys .
Your work is amazing. Love your videos.
Amazing!!!
Not sure if you are looking for only local places but I did want to suggest a couple of places here in NYC. Big Reuse, is located in Brooklyn, NY. They sell everything and have items from old houses and buildings that have been salvaged. Then there is Demolition Deport and Irreplaceable Artifacts in Manhattan.
I would paint the access panel door to match the beadboard.
Happy New Year! So glad you are feeling better, that Kim is okay and that you are rocking and rolling on the house.
Happy New Year! So glad Kim is okay, and you are feeling better. Awesome job with everything in this video!
Great job on your shower Kaleb!
Glad to hear you're feeling better. Sorry Kim was in a car accident, glad she's okay but it must have been scary, plus the inconvenience of losing the car.
The shower is coming along nicely, love the tiled floor. A few minor mistakes are just human error, it's proof that you made it and not a computer. And it'll blend better with the original tiles that were also done by hand. The sunburst is looking fantastic too.
Hopefully the weather will be getting warmer in a few weeks and you'll be able to do more outside work.
I can't wait to see this!
Nicely done.
Wow the current touches are turning out so nice. Well done on the shower, in particular creating a floor design that blends so well with the original.
Happy New Year Caleb and Kim... look at you go! looks like you know tile work! hope you guys are doing OK this year! You might think about adding some 120MM 12 volt fans between the grates to help pull the steam out of the shower...
I am so happy to be part of this channel and learning how to work on old homes and bring them back to their glory
Absolutely glorious. Keep on cracking brother.
Well done Caleb love the floor tiles did you consider contrast black strip tiles with white tiles ? otherwise maybe a touch clinical Happy new year to you and Kim l can't wait to see what's next oh and l love the dorma window piece did you consider keeping a pattern to go in your very own archive for when someone else has to do it in 100yrs time. yes l am living restoration vicariously through you lol 😁Juliet
Matching that tile is why you are an artist! Brilliant!
Very nice Kaleb. Happy New Year to you and Kim and pets!! ❤
Looking good Kaleb!
Also good job on the less cutting of the takes of the video. One-takes are better!
