a Corolla with sunroof, economical, cheap spare parts and MANUAL...bro...gimme that NOOOOW!!
@@tashinasimpson1927 I got a stroke reading your comment
TheSilverSmith me too
@@TheSilverSmitih The Jamaican effect... LOL!!
really missed this car guys
Drive a 1st gen XRS, and you will be like WTF Toyota! The high rev makes for some good times.
To be fair the amount of features that thing has are incredible. I find it hilarious how he complains about it have a “primitive” heated seat function... it’s a corolla with heated seats Period. Your expectations were too high.
Please turn off the A/C when trying to test the sportyness
lol
I was thinking the same thing lmfaoooo
Turning AC off mid RPM range in 1ZZ is equivalent to 7k rpm in 2ZZ! 😂
he says that Corollas have always been boring commuter cars. I'm 100% sure that the Ae86 isn't boring at all
not being biased im pretty sure that it has the same engine as the lotus elise but less horsepower. soo therefore the corolla xrs is a sports compact car.
Also the 05 Corolla XRS
As much as I love Toyota, exceptions like the AE86 don't disprove the rule. Most of the cars Toyota makes are daily commuters and boring. It's only every once in a while that they make an awesome car like the Supra, Celica, AE86, MR2, GT86, or XRS
Burned Aura the ae86 has a 4age engine while 05-06 xrs had a 2zz-ge with vvtl-i while the following generation xrs (in video) had a different engine
I have to say, you do a very good job. Best I have seen in camera positioning, quick overview, good facts and to the point. Most importantly no bashing but truthful review.
Keep doing what you are doing. Don't change your theme, although the new camera addition on the front windshield gives the personalized feel.
yeah, its a shame they really didnt take what made the original XRS so great and put it in this model. The original XRS was so unexpectedly entertaining in terms of handling. If they really wanted to use that 2.4L, thats fine but they should have dropped the torsion beam and put the double wishbone rear suspension from the Matrix XRS in here and let TRD tune it. Maybe then would it have been a more serious contender.
You and your "hard plastic"...
Annandale represent! You were just about to drive past my old high school before you whipped a U turn.
I do miss my old base, manual 10th gen Corolla with wind up windows and basic everything. It was unpretentious, easy to work on, and stupid reliable. Brakes, tires, and suspension parts were easy to source and cheap, and really easy to install. It was comfortable and diddnt draw attention, and it was pretty solid. I wish it got better mileage, in today's world of 40+ mpg economy cars, I struggled to get 34+ mpg hwy in that thing. I still miss it, maybe I should replace it with a 9th gen XRS . . .
I know Sofyan despises the Corolla but I like how he took an unbiased, professional approach. (like most of his videos) Makes him a great reviewer! Keep up the great work!
This review really helped make my mind up to buy an 09 corolla xrs. We needed a new family car good on fuel in the sub compact class, but I wanted something with some zip and fun to drive. This car in it's class is all about zip and I could care less about the muffler sound. You can tell in this video how the more this guy drives this car (which he wants to hate) the more he comes to like it, and that's pretty much how it was for me.
This is the version I would go for. I had a 9th gen 2006 Corolla S which was the first car I've bought & the interior quality & fit & finish was definitely better. I'm glad Toyota has been improving their interiors since this time period.
Love the review and found it hilarious XD i feel the same when i floor my matrix xr lol
Hard to find an XRS w/ low mileage having the 2.4 engine. I want one.
You want the 1.8 2zz and the 6 speed. You want an 05-06 ONLY
does this year have the oil burning issue?
Have a 2010 XRS in blue....im the original owner from brand new...has 32,000 original kms on it. As i have several vehicles....ill sell it. It is in absolutely mint condition....garage kept all its life....and only bought out in hot dry summer months.
These share the same 2.4 with the Camry that has bad piston rings and burn oil like crazy. 1.8 is the way to go with this generation.
@@zttaki1 I wanna buy it
Thanks for showing us this one. I'm not crazy about Corollas, but this is one I actually like. Got to try out an auto back when it was new, but didn't end up getting it. Also, this one is Blue Streak Metallic. Blue Ribbon Metallic was a darker blue that was used on other models like the Camry and old Scion tC!
Toyota were idiots for getting rid of the XRS. Now were stuck with LE and S that have drum brakes and a very primitive 4 speed auto (even for 2013)
If he doesn't want it, I'll take it!
hey Sofyan well done review its nice corolla I can see you liked this one
Really good looking car!
Thought there for a second you were doing my style haha. Great review
Love that color! Really wanna find this model in automatic. Hopefully it won't have the oil burning issue.
So the cruise control on my S model was installed after production? Didn't know that.
The XRS also has a beefed up suspension and better shocks and struts too
great review
9th gen XRS was the best. Total sleeper car. Shame Toyota crucified the potent engine XRS models in favor of protecting Scion (crap car).
@Nonya Biznes Yup. 05-06 xrs is the best. I have an 06
I'm from the future!
Scion is not around anymore.
the ae-86 corolla was a sport compact legend lol
Lol, the Powertrain combo is pretty nice. Had it on my old Scion tC.
how many litre of engine oil those it takes and aslo can de tyre wheel accept 215/65 r16 confortably?
Great review, as always! Your information at the beginning wasn't accurate though. -- The Toyota Camry, is the best selling car (sedan) in America (and in North America for that matter). It's sad, but true. Keep it up, I like that you're posting videos quite often these days too! :)
Nice Review Of 2009 Toyota Corolla XRS. 😁
That's a tough choice, between those 2, we may take the Corolla XRS, but if we can pick something else, it would be an 09 Civic or Mazda3 instead
YES!!! The XRS was an awesome car!! I used to have a 2010 corolla xrs 5speed manual, totally awesome car! Fast, great gas millage and just so solid! I miss mine , but i traded up for 2012 tacoma double cab v6 6 speed manual :)
Other than it's so-so gas mileage, it's a pretty easy car to learn how to drive stick shift on.
xrs was not the first time that you can get a manual transmission option from factory, even a 1986 corolla or a 1999 corolla offered a manual tranny
you should mount the windshield camera out of view of the head rest camera.
those door handles came right of the scion XB, so didn't the stick
I would like to see an unbiased review of this corolla xrs. This dude is obviously a Honda guy that "hates" corollas so he kind of half asses it while driving. Then to say it's not a sport car, but a "decent commuter car" is bull shit. The XRS is a whole lot more than a basic commuter car and even though it dose not make good enough "inspiring noises" for him..... Are you kidding me?
But this has the camry motor and 5 speed. The- 05-06 xrs with the 1.8 and 6 speed was faster & more fun than this version
Right? the 9th gen was lighter AND more powerful. No brainer there.
@@theejoeylee you know what else is fun about the 06 version? The oil pump deciding its gonna lump air and blow up the cylinder head. Yeah the 09 one is defiantly more toyota in the sense that it's reliable
The 10th gen in my country has a 6 speed manual
Corolla in my country still has soft padding dashboard I was surprised to see yours one has hard plastic
dude you lost all credibility when you said "As much as I hate corollas"
stop reviewing cars
Skyline he's a Honda fuckboy
Alvaro Lopez you can like both...
Not really corollas r fucking boring.
Fucking fool.toyota sells more care than any of other auto makers.2016 vw over take dem not by much.but toyota is world best.
@@isaacgonzalez7040 maybe be boring but they'll last longer than your dog
is this a 2zz engine with a 2.5 liter?
I like his reviews better than the other guy who just goes to auctions to intentionally rip interiors apart and then say they're junk.
This nameplate but in the brand new corolla models, with a TRD racing exhaust that would be great!
Top interior parts for Thailand spec are soft touch material
Throwback:I remember when my auntie had a 2001 Toyota Corolla, I am so glad she replaced with a 2002 Toyota Sequioa
That 2nd gear change is just boner kill.
i cant believe that the 2013 model is still this gen
ha! i noticed your little smiles everytime you floored it. so obviously it's not that boring and slow (in terms of a 4-door sedan)
Why are you making a video about a corolla if you don't like it, that doesn't make any sense
Dis battu bwoy get pay to dis me number brand.number one brand on earth.batty bwoy
@@tashinasimpson1927 What are you TRYING TO SAY?
perhaps the only decent corolla toyota ever made, but i'll stick to my mazda 3.....btw, have you guys used go pros yet?
if you haven't tested the 05 xrs, you need to try it. It is probably the only corolla that could compete with the SI.
is that s2000 key?
The sound of the transmission is something tho
great now I know what to drive if I ever need a cure for insomnia
Could you try to do more Volvo and Audi vehicles please
Maybe dust the radio before filming? A clean car is a happy one.
I would be fine with the new 2.5 as the XRS trim level engine in the 11th Gen Corollas. It's the new A25A-FKS coded engine. Makes 203-206 HP @ 6600 rpm depending on exhaust configuration and 184-186 LBS FT TQ @5000 rpm. That in a newest gen Corolla as an XRS and add the rear suspension from the Corolla iM Hatchback. That would be a fun car in my opinion. If they gear it well, you can have a really nice acceleration. Plus with all these new 7 speed manuals and 8 and 10 speed autos and dsg's there's no reason it can't have really aggressive ratios while still running a low RPM @ Hwy speeds. Come on Toyota! Lets do it, or hire me onto one of the teams that presents possible new variations of cars lol. I'll sell them on it.
Yung Padawan I would love that, but Toyota probably doesn't see a market for a sporty Corolla or sport eco car. I miss the 90s......
Ah you see, the current gen corolla with the camrys 2.5 strung out for an extra 12 to 15 hp and maybe 5 more lbs, 6 speed, higher revving by maybe 500ish rpms, a limited slip front. And a bare bones interior, just dula zone climate, led lights and thier premium in house sound system. I think that would give something like the SI a complete run for its money.
"doesn't sound inspiring" just put a no-name after market header on it followed by a straight pipe n1 exhaust and watch how it sounds then. This guy needs to cease from being so biased before he actually makes a review for a car, his cons on the car were far-fetched and nonsensical, typical civic fan boy.
i know this engine has more kick at 6700rpm then vtec. this has a almost 40 horse increase compared to vtec having 15. very boased towards honda and mazda soyfan
Honda fan bwoy.dat fool say boring i wud box him in his face fi dis best brand in d world
The XRS is as sporty as it'll get with Corollas. Same engine used in the Lotus Elise which many people do not know but underpowered. It was designed to be an economic car with some sporty features to satisfy those looking for a bit of flare. If you're looking for something sporty, Toyota has a line of real sport cars to chose from. ie: MR2, Supra, etc.
Actually no, the 2.4 in this trim was the base engine of the Camry. Sporty, it was not.
GR Corolla has entered the chat
I don't see these very often, actually, think I've only ever seen one once ever.
I see more of the LE/S models than these.
toyota needs to bring back the xrs!
how bout when you rev it, you put the camera by the exhaust.
very good
You are driving the wrong XRS, Drive the 6 speed manual. the one with the Lotus engine. That one is worth it.
Why didn't they bring this engine as a special model into the new Corollas?
This isn't Blue Ribbon Metallic, it's Blue Streak Metallic. Blue Ribbon was on the Camry and Prius.
And there have been sporty Corollas before, the FX16, AE92, and the AE86.
You guys should review 2013 corolla s manual
Yes
i like how he almost laughs at 8:04...
I am usually a fan of your reviews, but my mind has been completely changed, I do hope that this is not your day job, if so you may need to start looking. The unbiased and unreasoned "facts" you have towards corolla's is just ridiculous. One of the worst reviews I have seen you do. You should really take the comments below into consideration and start thinking like a car reviewer and not someone who does not like toyota's. Its quite sad.
Really weird why they didn’t put a 6 speed in this one? They did it for the generation previous to this one and it had a 5 speed
They were still mating these 2az-fe’s with the 5 speed. Once they stepped up to the 2.5l 2ar-fe I think they upgraded to a 6 speed
Minute 10.00 the matrix on the front was probably way faster than that xrs
You also have to remember that most of the times, he reviews very expensive exotic cars, so yeah, that may be why he doesn't test drive them.
But I do agree otherwise, he doesn't give his opinion, the pros and cons, only reading the specifications, more like a commercial than a review.
11:28 Old beige '98 Corolla is burning oil through the exhaust!

I'm kinda upset the AC was on
i thought there was more than 2 reviewers. what happend?
I Love The 10th Generation Toyota Corolla
Just bought a 2014 toyota corola
sofyan, what do u do at Jerry's
I have a 2009 Corolla S 5MT 2ZR-FE 1.8L. The long throw shifts were cured by a TWM short shifter. The power was increased with a turbo kit from Turbokits.com with a nice 100 HP "boost", along with some suspension upgrades and BC coilovers, it's a blast to drive, handles well and sounds fantastic! You need to give Toyota some love for what they can be!
Nice
GOOOOOD
Nice JBL audio
People that aren’t teenagers don’t want an engine that makes a noise. I want it quiet so I can hear my farts
Basically a 2009 Scion tC-spec engine with a Corolla body.
Should of did some front wheel burnout haha
I didn't know that the 10th gen XRS had the camry's engine. Toyota messed up when they stopped putting those motors in their corolla. Looks like I will stick with the 9th gen XRS
And now the have a Toyota Corolla XSE
Who else noticed that he passed a ton of other Toyota's during the test drive?
Why u hate toyota so much think about the 2000gt or the supra great cars
JDM Toyota he doesn't know shit
JDM Toyota he lost his butt virginity in a Honda that's why
JDM Toyota .fuck dat chakie chan wana b.best fucking brand in the world
doesn't the scion tc have the same engine?
Camry, tC, xB 2nd gen. its pretty much Toyota's universal 2.4l
without further ado......
I AGREEE
i used to like saabkyle before i discovered this channel. kyle just sounds so robotic and too scripted....you sound more natural and "human" so props to you sofyan
Cool I'll gladly take it since it seems like you don't like it.
I know right."
You shifting before hit the VVT-I zone
Sengeto V-Tech LoL
not even ONE rear seat pocket? niiiice!
This car was more designed to compete with the Mazda3 2.5s than a full out Mazdaspeed3
It sounds like a CVT with 5MT LOOL
i would BUY this Corolla before any Elantra or Forte.
