Looking into getting a white 2010 Corolla S, seems like a dope car
@@ape_man504 I still have my Corolla and it's only grown on me more. I put a strut tower bar on it to stiffen the front end and it handles much better now, along with some of the steering slop of the electric steering now being gone. It goes well with the 24 mm rear sway bar I put on the rear, too.
I put a new stereo in it that woke up the factory speakers and I'm investing in getting it repainted eventually (something I would have never done before).
So far she's more of a keeper than she ever was.
I didn't realize all of this until I recently got a Mustang to drive and have fun with. I had forgotten all the issue you can have with a car until I got it. Granted, it's older than the Corolla with more miles on it, and I don't know if it might have been abused or not.
Still, the issues are a good reminder of why it's important to have a good dependable car you're satisfied with.

@@original__gmebvy I own a 2004 Camry with a 2.4 and a 2004 Celica GT, both automatics. The Camry is legit smooth but handles like garbage. The Celica is rough and slow but handles great for a fwd.
It's not good. But defiantly not the worst. The good thing about these cars is that you will be slugging around with the automatic transbobulator longer than any other car you have or will ever owned. Ultra boring with ultra reliability.
I had one of these as a rental car for two weeks, and this statement is very true.
It's not that bad if you keep it in second or third gear around town. Makes the throttle response somewhat lively. I'm not saying it's *fast* mind you but its quick enough for spirited driving if you don't mind staying in the 3500-4K range where the VVT-i starts to kick in. What baffles me is highway/interstate driving because somehow this thing manages to get 35-36 mpg even though it sits at like 3200 at 80 mph. And mine is 8 years old! It used to get 40. IDK how they pulled that off. Having said that, I'm trading it in for an Elantra Sport as soon as I can.
Years ago, your first Corolla review warmed my heart, and this one warmed my soul.
I know from experience that you're absolutely spot-on with this analysis. When I got my license over a decade ago, my parents said they'd buy me a car; and my first, last, and only choice was the Corolla. Six months later, when that 1999 Corolla VE got outshone by a local dealership's newspaper ad, I upgraded...to a 2001 Corolla LE. (I just wanted power windows.) Since then, I've added 120,000 miles to Corolla 2's original 25k and driven up and down the East coast (Florida to Maine) maybe four times now. And when I finally run her into the dirt, my next car is either gonna be another Corolla, or a Mazda Miata.
(The Miata would be your fault.)
Meanwhile, my little brother managed to literally explode two Celica GT-S's (one engine and one transmission) before seeing the light and getting an old Camry.
Indeed, first cars should save you money. A $7500 used car, paid in full, driven for 14 years, mere peanuts for registration, and dirt cheap maintenance? Yes, please. In fact, I'll have another.
I just bought a 2008 manual S and I freaking love the thing. It's actually rather quick for an econobox, nice shifter, tight steering, great fuel economy even at 300,000 miles, and takes light cosmetic mods very nicely.
I just picked up a 07 S , 169k miles, new clutch. looks like hell though , paint is gone. Hows yours holding up and what miles are on it now?

Do you want to go on a test drive?" Gave it a drive, was perfectly good car, had a decent set of features and the price was great. But there was something missing from it - a soul. I own this exact manual model and it's a great car. The reviewer said it all perfectly about not robbing you of money. So I thought I'd chime in, first time comment, long-time watcher, love the content. I actually ended up sinking on a 2019 Toyota 86 GT for my first car (realizing that it probably wasn't the most cost-effective choice, but considering that after learning on a 2005 Sienna and a 2018 Ford Edge, anything was better, and my job made it quite a bit easier to get my hands on it, so I dunked), though I had been considering an older Corolla for a while now. Biggest mistakes I made were getting it in an auto, and not waiting a few more months for the 2020 model so I didn't have to make the obligatory "let's swap out the head unit with something better" decision. After 7,500 miles in the thing (drove it off the lot with 12 miles on it), I'm inclined to believe that the decision wasn't that bad after all, it makes the commute (20 miles one way) and the traffic less of a pain in the ass, and it handles really well with all the TRD bells and whistles. Will I try and convert it to stick at some point or trade it in for one? Maybe. For now, it works as a daily, it's sporty, and it makes me happy. That's all anybody can really ask for, right?
Hey this actually looks pretty cool. It's definitely a change of pace. I'm so used to seeing these as boring daily drivers. I'm always helping out non knowing customers with these things.

back from the gym to see a RegularCars Review...perfect timing!
Great review. This prompted me to seriously look at the MGPS site, and I'm sold.
I can relate to this guy's buying experience as mine was similar when buying my Toyota Tacoma. I scoured the market for a loaded 1st gen SR5 Xtracab with the 2RZ 4 and a 5 speed. Months of shopping turned up A) newer out-of-reach models, or B) countless older base model single cabs with 240k miles and rebuilt titles...all autos. I had resigned myself to just settling for a beater with a heater in my price range when mine turned up at a Nissan dealer's "budget lot." It was exactly what I wanted, a solid, clean, bone stock and well kept unicorn with just over 100k and the 5 speed.
It had obviously sat there awhile, presumably because no one wanted a stick, and the dealership just wanted it gone.
They clearly didn't know/care what it was, and didn't see the diamond in the rough I saw.
As I signed the paperwork the sales manager snubbed it as something I "might get a few miles out of."
Result: I got a damn good deal on a damn good vehicle, that I still daily 5 years later, and still get words of appreciation and offers to buy from those who know and care what it is, simply because a stick shift carries some "less than" stigma.
There is something oddly satisfying in driving past these soulless $60k late model super dually automated living rooms on wheels knowing I'm still doing it my way.
That’s actually a really clean build and now I want a corolla to mod the same way lol
I like these cars. I have the 2020 se with all options and those LEDs headlights omg

this video has given me a much better outlook on the fact that my first car (and current daily driver) was a base model Subie Impreza 2.5i. Its not fast, its not particularly special, but it cranks up when i turn the key and it gets me from a to b. So I just bought a MB C300, coming off a 2009 Corolla S stick. As nice as the Benz is, i just cant stop thinking about my Corolla. I had the thing for 8 years, and it was a care free 8 years. The Corolla is the best care free car I have ever owned. As long as you change the oil and filter, air filter, PCV valve the car seem like it will run forever. i bought it with 50k miles and I stopped driving it at 190K miles with zero issues. The anxiety in my life now with this Benz sucks. My oil change is going to be around $500. My brake job around $1500. I feel like selling the Benz and live out the rest of my days just riding in my corolla
2013 Toyota Corolla.. my daily driver, and proud of it (and its various TRD emblems lol)! Very well-done review Mr Regular, I never thought you'd review my daily! Yet, I totally agree with you on the "if you're at half throttle, you're at full throttle" thoughts.. and yes my Corolla has Eibach lowering springs (.5 inch lower than TRD's), the same TRD front and rear sway bar, borla axle back, and a louder air intake. So it sound nicer, and has minimal body roll remaining.. and thus- its fun enough to speed around the flat florida streets in 3rd gear all day without .. ever going over the speed limit, lol. (it's an A/T) Fun Fact: the A/T 4-speed has a 2nd gear that can do 70mph, real fun for the canyons according to Matt Farrah in the 2ZRFE swapped Yaris vid. I'm glad my first car was a 4th gen Maxima. It was sportier than most cars and faster than most but reliable enough to get me through highschool, my first job, second job, college, and first career move. Now it's doing the same for my sister. Only mods on it are to limit body roll.
I work at a Toyota dealer and these come in often. The type of car that no matter how bad shape it’s in, it still drives ok. They hardly break and only come on for routine maintenance or really minor issues.
Toyota Corolla, the regularest of regular cars.
I got a car that is slightly impractical as my first car.. A 1993 miata it has 2 seats and a small trunk but dam it is fun to drive.
rolon96 2810 I might be getting a 2002 Civic Si for my graduation present and I'm so exited to have my first manual performance car!
@@ilovemanunited6179 That's probably the worst Civic Si ever made but that being said it's a pretty decent first car.
Good choice. You're a wise man.
zep head like mr regular said in his review it is a great car for someone who wants a driver car but could only afford one car. It is true. They are cheap the only downside is since it is a classic car you might need to do maintainence and replace parts sometimes.
Mine has 292,000 miles and has had knock sensor, rebuilt caliper, and alternator. That is it and is identical to this one minus TRD badges. I love it
That Jean analogy had me in tears
Edit: commented before the Thoreau bit
I don’t think I’ve been this early to any video ever
The new ones are much different. They used 'effort' in making them semi enjoyable to drive
These always end up being more than just a car review. These are life lessons.
Loved this review. I make way more than 100k and I purchased the Corolla S from my sister for like 4k because she never used, it was always parked. Cannot tell you how much I love that car people want to buy it from me because its like brand new. I highly advice to purchase that car if you drive a lot of miles you will be so thankful.
