Like you, I feel your joy in acquiring the 1$ "Western Cattle In Storm" commemorative. After trying for more times than I can remember, I finally managed to land this elusive star-stamp as well in a recent auction. And yes indeed, I think it wins hands down as the most beautiful stamp the US ever issued. And yes, too, despite knowing that the painting on which the stamp is based actually shows cattle in a storm in Scotland rather than in the western US, it is still a striking commemorative any way you look at it. Great video as usual, and I appreciate all the hard work you've put in doing this one and all the others that preceded it.

Just submitted my answer! I only subscribed a few days ago and have been binge watching your content so good timing for me! I only recently got the philatelic bug. Both my grandfathers were collectors but I grew up in the US and never got to spend time with them, and was never introduced to the hobby. Alas, by the time I moved back to the Netherlands both grandparents and their collections were gone. I came across a small collection at a secondhand shop that sparked an interest, but it was the purchase of a box of random all Netherlands stamps for only 1 Euro that got me hooked on the hobby with serious intent. I intend to put together a collection of Dutch stamps, postcards, coins, and other ephemera to help me learn my heritage that I missed out on learning. It's the deep dive into history that I love most about your channel, and like you I am often blown away by how much i can learn from one little stamp. Thanks so much and have a wonderful New Year!

The giveaway is such a fun idea -- but the quiz is genius. First I took the test without cheating and felt anywhere between kind of confident to super confident on all but four. Two of them I guessed right, and the other two I had no idea, so I had to go hunting. Thank you for such a great year of philately content. Looking forward to what you explore in 2023. I have such a personal connection to all the Trans-Mississippi stamps, and I think the $1 earns it’s place as one of the most beautiful. I really like it’s composition in black and white, the way the snow is angled toward the frame and how the bull really stands out in front.

Hi Graham, I looked through the quiz and I remembered the amazones of Dahomy. This was very impressing to me and I put the link to a German stamp forum. And I still know the city you are asking for. 2022 was overall a difficult year, but to have stamp collecting as a hobby is something to have a good time not thinking about all of the things happening in the world today.
For the 1$: I like the whole set and my favourite of the set is the 4 cent orange. They are all nice and congratulation to have an unused 1$. They are not easy to find. I assume it is a bit easier in USA, in Germany it is very difficult. To get them cancelled is way easier. I also like the Buffalo fair set from 1901. They all show a world what does not exist anymore. Even the Missisppi set was 20 years away from the end of the Wild West when issued. Congratulations to have it in your collection.
I wish you a happy new year and a lot of new nice stamps in 2023.

@@ExploringStamps After your video I looked at an auction portal for the 1 $ stamp and I found only a few with American auctions. This is a rare stamp and I would also only buy such a stamp from a dealer or from an auction partner I trust. The stamp dealer market is not that easy, I assume you see it in USA as well. Will you look to complete the set in the future?
No, I did not remeber all the questions you asked for. But Dahomey was so fascinating that I can remember it. When do you see anything from Dahomey 🤤? And I do not participate on the quiz to get the other people starting a collection a better chance to win a stamp book. Especially the blue stamp from 1936 is very interesting.
Your channel is in regards of stamps the best what I can find. I like it a lot and when I see the comments I´m not alone. Even some are writing, that they started or started again collecting stamps. It is really nice to see more active people.

I have been back into my stamp collecting for about a year and a half and finally got stock books for my worldwide collection and the Mystic Heirloom albums (that my husband gave me for Christmas) that I am currently making a home for my U.S. collection. All this time since I was 10, never had anything but a Harris paper album for U.S.
Also, today I removed stamps using the Bestine you tried out and it’s fantastic for removing them! They have been still sticky on the backside, though, which I can’t get to come off, so I put a tiny amount of baby powder on the back so they don’t stick together or to my album pages. (Any other tips on this would be appreciated)
I’m so excited for what this hobby will inspire in my next year and a half! Many good wishes to you and in making your next videos of Exploring Stamps for 2023!
Oh wonderful, glad the Bestine worked!! Yeah either scraping the remaining glue or using talcum powder is the best way I know to remove the stickiness, great job in removing those difficult self-adhesives.
It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job building up your collection, and utilizing stockbooks for the worldwide collection. Stockbooks are my absolute fav.

Hey Gram have always loved all your videos that you put out. Sorry I have not been in touch in a while I have had some health problems and no longer in the army. If you remember I sent you some pics of some stamps I bought in Poland when I was deployed to the area and you were very helpful in identifying some of them. Now that I am getting better I am back into my collecting and hope to chat with you more

Thank you for all your and Laura's (probably mostly Laura's) hard work. I enjoy your content immensely on multiple platforms, and follow multiple creators that you feature or recommend. We actually met briefly in Toronto at CAPEX22 outside of our hotel one morning. I asked if you were going to see you at the convention center later. I'm sorry I didn't have the courage (or audacity) to introduce myself. Hopefully we'll both attend another show somewhere/sometime in the future where I can have another shot at it 😂. My son (who I was and am trying to spark an interest with in the hobby) and I attended your talk that you held, we sat a few rows ahead of Laura. You can actually see the backs of our heads in the video she took (We're famous!). BTW I completed the quiz. I have to admit I had to go back and re-watch some of the videos (that Samuel West question got me, he only said those exact words once, so it threw me off a bit). I am a 13 year old beginner collector. I started collecting since 2017. I usually collect currencies and ancient items. I am currently focusing on stamps from different countries.I really like doing this, especially stamps that feature animals. I wonder how many more of those amazing Lazels £1 PUC puzzles might've been sold if they'd been better advertised philatelic-side: didn't see any mention on the boards I frequent, anyhow! (No release price stated, but they're selling for more than a mint copy of the stamp now.)

Yeah it is an interesting business model that the Lazels team have. 'Conversations with Philatelists' interviewed Peter Clyde from Lazels, and they seem to mainly cater to a puzzle community that is extremely active, so this overlap with the philatelic world wasnt heavily advertised I guess. I only found out through a work colleague who knows that I collect stamps about the drop as it was happening. Thank you so much for all your support and views, have a Happy New Year!!
