One of my friends did a nice find few months ago. He attended from the Netherlands to a PSS meeting in America and bought some precancels, 1 with Racine precancel. Back home he thought something to see with the perforation. Got stamp certified, it's an 511a. It's a real transitional perf 10 at bottom with the first 3 perf holes at left perf 11.

Thank you guys . I have been a numismatic for over 40 years specializing in errors and variety coins. I find the same thing with a lot of my customers and people I deal with. They always think they found the big one unfortunately the stamp community and coin community run across this daily. With that being said, I have been enjoying stamps for about 15 years now and I have acquired a small collection a number of years ago that had 45 Chicago pre-canceled one cent. Also, being a garage machinist at best I do know how to use a digital caliper, so hopefully with that and a proper template, I myself will take my chance to see if I have one… lol

I found piles of stamps in my attic a lot in books unused and a lot in envelopes and tons on postcards, the ones on post cards were stuck in old postcard books found a lot of late 1800’s and early 1900’s stamps on backs. Nice post cards some bit so great but the stamps on back is what I want to start learning but some of the post cards are worth money I do not want to keep them definitely selling but have to learn what I have first.

Hi guys! Enjoyed the video. Thanks for making it. I do have questions about measurements of the design size. If the listed measurements in the catalogue are approximate measurements and not exact, what kind of a +/- tolerance is allowed? I have also seen different publications list different measurements for a 596. Stamp Smarter lists the measurements for a 596 at 19x22 1/2. Linn's has them at 19 1/4x22 1/2. A site called Swedish Tiger has them listed at 19 1/2x22 1/2. Which measurements are correct? I ask that because some people do not have the Scott Cat. available to them. I thank you in advance.

@@stampshowheretoday9593 Thanks for the reply back. From all of the frames I have measured up to this point, I have noticed that +/- tolerance is at most, .15mm. Most of the time it is .10 or less. Maybe I get too technical about things. I just want to be 100% correct before moving on to the next one. I am sure with time, I will be more relaxed about it all. Thanks once again.

Years ago i visited an antique store which had post cards from 1936 post marked but i was surprised to see this Franklin one cent stamp on it. And purchased some of these post cards to remove the stamps from. Stupid me? Did i make a terrible mistake in carefully removing the stamp from the post card from 1936? One sold for $85,000.00 having the post card in tact. Bummer! I believe the post card and the addreess as well as the person who sent it and the girl friend who received it may have made the stamp so much more valuable historically. One came from Niagra Falls and i no longer kept the post card it came on. It was received in Oklahoma. What if it came to a prominant person or a poet, or proliffic writer ? Would it be more valued than just the face value of the current value? The Franklin one cent stamp is off set. With the top of the border perforated slightly. Also it looks like this stamp had been exposed to sunlight as it looks faded and not a hunter green. The printing looks very sharp..What is it worth?

  • @4thdimensiontravels855

I googled the 1 cent franklin because I had about 12 total. 2 were together on a postcard and the color is almost a gray. Wigh a green cast. Much different than the other 10. You can put them side by side and and the 2 are visibly larger. His head seems a bit wider too. Those 2 came off the same sheet and are still one piece. Im excited to let a professional take a look. Im never this lucky so its probably something worthless but I can say everything checks out according to this video. And I use vernier, and dial calipers daily. And they are the right size too. One in a million I know but it would be nice!!@

Interesting. I'm a GB specialist and have a stamp that also has exactly 9 copies (2023 correction - now 10 as another has been discovered, which I now own!) known.
It's an inverted watermark example on 1d Red plate 9.
(I'd put a link to a scan of it but the scan has my name on it, which I'd rather keep private)
Yet it wouldn't fetch anything like $175000 (I'd reckon to get between £3000 - £5000).
In the same way, there are just 7 1d Red SC perf 16 Die 1 plate 168 stamps in existence. A good friend has 2 of them. They would fetch perhaps £10000 in auction.
I wonder if it's because Scott lists that Scott 596 stamp as a separate catalogue number and collectors want to get one of every number? The 1d Red plate 9 with inverted watermark is not even listed in the Stanley Gibbons specialised catalogue: that's how rare it is.

@@immanuelcarretero103 honestly i have no clue what they are worth.. i know some are worth a bit more than others.. like a few bucks compared to the usual less than a buck price point but i dont have any clue as to actually putting a price on them. if you figure it out please let me know. sending a stamp in for authentication is expensive and I would only do that if you think you have one of the rotary varieties thats like a half mm off from the scott 596. I actually have one of these and am thinking about spending the 70 bucks or whatever it is to make sure its not a legit scott 596. whats crazy is that im from kansas and the women who wrote the letter i found it on had traveled to kansas city both before and after the particular letter was written. lol its probably not one, but who knows

if someone had one of the franklin 1 cent rotary stamps thats very close to the expensive scott 596.. should they have it looked at by a professional? ive read online that they are so close that you cant tell and that its possible to have the scott 596 even if it appears to not be the correct length. reason i ask is bc i have a rotary ben franklin 1 cent stamp.. it has the color marks on the back and is also stretched from being a rotary stamp.. another fun fact regarding the stamp that makes my bhole pucker is that it came from a collection of letters that shows that this women who wrote the letter was from north central kansas. in the box of letters she sent to her parents while traveling there are multiple letters from kansas city proving she was visiting the city. its totally possibly she bought numerous stamps from kansas city and took them with her on her travels to later use it to mail other letters back to her parents...
so my question is, should i spend the 50 or 100 bucks, whatever it is to have to looked at?

If the image on the stamp is 19,25 mm wide and 22,50 mm high, and the perforation on all four sides is 11, then it is 596.
If the picture is 19,50 mm wide and 22,25 mm high and has perforation 11 on all four sides, then it is 594 and it is worth 35,000 dollars.

I recently inherited a pile of these...also, 2 cent Washington's and some really cool others but I have no idea how to sell them. I've tried Facebook, and some other platforms but I have no idea about stamps. Can you please help me sell my collection? I'll cut you in 10% of ALL profits and I'm not joking about having piles of them.

Please...I'm Positive I have at least 2 "Prime Real-estate" stamps and possibly several others still valuable. My brother and I inherited PILES on PILES of antique stamps from ALL over the world. Also have: 2 cent George Washington's(Red andGreen), 1cent Benjamin Franklin's(Blue and Green), various other countries(France, Italy, Germany, Ireland, England, and more from Spain and more European countries), and Miscellaneous. Long story short, I NEED help selling them so to the person who can ACTUALLY help, I'll split ALL profits with them 50/50!!!! I figured since I didn't really earn/personally collect them and the only reason I had the chance to inherit them was the fact that someone related to me risked their own life and freedom traveling the world during some of the World's most horrible Wars and had the habit of saving letters(I'm sure it was more for the sentiment in the writing)and passed them along with the family to keep their story alive. Those types of gestures do run in the family and I'd love to be able to give back to pay it forward somehow
