I am also a DIY maker and have seen a lot of videos. First thanks for videos and making a usefull tools . By the way i need to say three absence for this job that somebody commented here. First, bottom of the tank, it must be welded a valve to get out moisture or water. Secondly you need to install a safety ventile at the pressure switch. With the high pressure at tank, that makes air evacuate for safety automatically. Third, you need add a check valve at the point of blue pipe connected to tank. Because the pressure at the tank comes directly to fridge compressor. When the fridge compressor need to work, it faces with pressure and its lifespan will decrease.

I fully agree with Frederick and will add on my own behalf about the significant errors noticed . To get rid of condensate splashes from the paint sprayer, when painting parts, or when inflating tires, you need to install and connect a moisture separator filter at the air outlet from the fitting . Further, when screwing or turning the pressure gauge, in no case can you rotate it by holding on to the housing ,but only with a key for a special nut on the fitting. When installing the compressor on the tank of the receiver, it was necessary to put springs on the mounting bolts to reduce noise and vibration , and install washers with rubber gaskets . Otherwise, I praise you for being busy with men's work and not wasting your life on drinking alcohol and idleness !!! Good luck !!!

this is awesome! now only if you could use your powers for good instead of evil!
by adding the rubber grommets at the feet of the compressor motor would reduce the noise of the compressor motor or extend the life of the build?
how much did this whole unit cost?

These compressors generally have a lubricant in the refrigerant. In order for this to last any amount of time it would need an oiler included.

About 25 years ago I used a used refrigerator compressor as a vacuum pump for servicing Car A/C systems. I would pull the needed vacuum to allow me to service the systems when repairs were completed. The systems that still had R-12 or R-134A in them, I'd take and pay to have the gas removed. If the refrigerant charge was already lost due to a component failure, I could skip that part. Once repaired I'd use the pump to pull the needed vacuum and verify all leaks were repaired. This style pump surprised me with how quickly it could pull the needed vacuum depending on the altitude I was at.

Hello young man: building a compressor with a fridge motor and a gas cylinder is not new to me because I realized the equivalent of this about fifteen years ago. I just wanted to let you know that you have omitted two important details I will say very very important: The absence of an overpressure safety valve and a purge under the tank to evacuate the water because you must know that the pressure air in the tank produces water due to humidity in the air.
good job overall if we are not looking at the finish of the product.

Stig R with an silent air compressor like this you can also an air engine too. The air which comes from the air compressor is fed to the cylinder through the carburetor which pushes the piston to turn the crank wheel. Thus you can make an air engine like compustin engines like petrol and deasel engines. The main advantage of this engine is pollution free engine much more efficient than diesel or petrol engines. Thus you can invent air engine car bus truck etc etc

@@ryanluiz2703 Air engines are NOT more efficient than combustion engines. Where in the world do you get your information? Air doesn't compress itself, does it? It comes from electricity or a combustion engine driving it. Combustion delivers waaaaaay more power than compressed air from an air compressor could.

Mate, that air compressor is down right dangerous. It had a rating 18 bar because it was stuck together by a professional, ticketed welder. It’s rating dropped to zero as soon as you drilled into it. The close up of those fittings revealed very poor quality welding which is likely to fail (explode) when under pressure - even at 6 bar. I’m all for DIY projects but some things are worth leaving to experienced tradesmen who have spent years studying and working in specialised fields to ensure a high level of safety for everyone. Also, blowing compressed air on yourself at close range is an excellent way to get an air embolism...

      Absolutely correct.
The compressor has become absolutely lethal.
Operating such has become HIGH - RISK
Even though I took a Welding course decades ago -

such work - even though I am trained in welding
various alloys - including Inconel alloys - Stainless Steel -

      oxy-acetyline equipment.

There's lots of good things you can do with this compressor, despite it's low volume. A few problems I see is you should NOT weld a cast fitting to a steel tank... and you should NOT weld to a pressure tank! For a project like this he should have removed the top fitting on the tank and just made a manifold out of threaded fittings, then fabricated his wheels and such to the steel pieces that were already fastened to the tank. IOW, no welding directly to the pressure tank.

I also missed a couple of important details : in the compressor tank , where the electric motor is located , you need to add liquid lubricant to increase the service life of moving parts, such as the cylinder walls, piston rings, piston, crankshaft and bearings ! At the time when this unit was working as a refrigerator compressor , a mixture of cooling agent and oil mist was located in the compressor tank cavity , with the help of which all parts were lubricated . In addition , the refrigerator system was closed and closed, and humid air could not get there , and after reworking, access to the compressor housing for moisture is open and wear of parts will be accelerated . To avoid this , you need to put a moisture separator at the air inlet!!! That's it now !

These compressors are great but have one major Achilles heel. The oil surrounding the motor inside is great to lubricate and cool the motor but will degrade over time (6 months) if exposed to the air. Best to replace the oil with a simple mineral oil...

@Koning Bolo - But to replace the oil that surrounds the engine, is it necessary to open the third pipe? Is it possible to use common 10W40 car oil or is there something more specific? Thank you!

My guess, at least half an hour. Fridge compressors can produce high pressure but with very limited flow. That’s why it takes so long. Anyhow, nice project for a DIY.

PSA: unless you are a professional welder certified in welding high pressure systems, you should never weld on a high pressure vessel. Even at 100psi the forces involved are enough to kill you in the event of a tank rupture or faulty weld giving way. A design like this would be okay as long as you adapt for existing holes and you use some type of sealant on the inside of the tank to prevent rusting and general corrosion.

How do you control the refrigerant oil from filling up the tank? I see no filter on the compressor discharge and if you've taken out the oil, the compressor will burn up in no time. What's up?

No one way check valve from the pump to the tank, it will bleed compressed air off and hissss at you, also no tank bleeder valve at the bottom of the tank to empty water that's going to pool up and rot it from inside out. I also didnt care for the way you did the wheels.
FiY. If that was a propane tank you must fill it full or water the get all the gas out, cutting and welding could ignite trace gasses in the tank.
The concept of using a ac compressor to make compressed air is old, adding a decent storage tank was nice. Still needs a few things you either didnt think about or want to add.

      Oh, cut him a break.
Nobody is going to actually build one of these things with a freon compressor. They simply don't have three days to wait, while it fills the tank.
Its mainly just fun to watch him build something, while you have a beer or two.

One thing not mentioned is lube. As a refrigerant compressor, the lube is suspended in your R12 refrigerant. You're now running it without any lubricant which is going to effect its longevity. To lube the internal workings, you need to add a few drops of oil through the suction port occasionally.
