Solar charger: I use a PulseTech SolarPulse SP-3 Solar Battery Charger Maintainer, 3 Watt, Blue. I just lay the panel on top of my tarp and the electronics inside the battery/pump container, then store the panel when in use. I had heavy duty adjustable stabilizers added to the very back outside corners so I can run the tractor up the ramps into the trailer without the truck being hooked up. I added extra storage on the underside of the trailer for my chains, 2' HD ratchet-straps and wheel chucks. I also had a 2" receiver welded to the top of the front of the tarp storage area so I can use my hitch-mounted winch 'just in case' One thing I do hate is the weight of the steel ramps, takes two men and a strong boy to put back in the storage holders (I just throw them on the back of the trailer) - Dave

I’m glad you mentioned how hard it is to back a short trailer. I have a jetski, and I always feel like a fool when I back the trailer without the jetski on it. By the time I see the trailer in the mirror it’s too late. I have no problem backing the bigger boats but that jetski trailer makes me look like a fool. Especially since I always forget to put the tailgate down so I can actually see the trailer.

We went with side pockets on a deck over, 8x16 14k
    .
Permanent sides and lumber stacked on forks, just don't work.
Especially if you want it still staked when you set it down.
    .
Along with logs that weigh several tons, or bundles of slabs versus fenders, don't mix well ether.
Let alone the abuse of dropping in logs 3ish foot above the deck.
    .
Was an interesting conversation with the sales department, as no one had ever ordered a trailer that way.

Don’t forget tire pressure in your dump trailer tires. Fill the tires to the PSI the trailer manufacturer recommends. There is usually a sticker on the trailer tongue showing the recommended pressure. If the max. PSI molded into the tire side wall is higher than the trailer manufacturer recommends do not use that number. Your empty trailer will bounce more and the tires will wear unevenly when the tires are over inflated.

I have actively been looking for another dump trailer over the last few weeks, so alot of this info is fresh on my mind. I am starting to see some prices falling on trailers as their inventories are finally building back up and the horid economy making sales slow in my area...
There is no trailer perfect for everything. Also...If I could take the good points from each manufacturer and combine them. A Feller would have a heck of a trailer!
The 2 galvanized/aluminum trailers I have looked at actually weight more empty then the same company steel trailers. They are building them up to actually handle the abuse but buyer is loosing some potential weight hauled.
When you spoke about welds. I have noticed several times now. When you have say 4 identical trailers parked side by side. It is the easiest to see differences in welder skills. 1 will have beautiful welds, 2 are decent welds and 1 doesn't look road worthy and should have been kicked out at the factory during inspection process.
I have 2 more places on my list for tire kicking this week yet before making my decision. I have already seen some that use to make quality trailers that have gone to junk and a couple that have really stepped their game up in my search so far. Thanks for all the great info and shared experiences today!👍👍

I was talking to a guy that has started a small business renting trailers, etc. he showed me where he rented his 12’ dump trailer to a guy that loaded one side more then the other with dirt using a small sub-compact tractor. When he went to dump it, it twisted the trailer dump box. And he had to take and have it straightened before he could rent it to anyone else. He said where he had to take it which is a 2 hr drive one way plus the cost to fix the trailer. So loading evenly is a very big thing!

When is the right time to buy a dump trailer? I've been building inventory for a few months now and I've been able to sell bundles to a couple stores. However, I haven't actually sold any quantity of wood yet. I'm just getting started. I'm wondering if a dump trailer is worth it at this point as far as being more efficient when getting free wood from places...more trips faster! Would love to hear your advice and thank you for the inspiration. I've started all this because of you.

Wait on the trailer. First develop your customers. Deliver with a truck or small borrowed trailer or 5x8 utility trailer that works good enough for now. Putting out thousands before you have money will stop your progress and growth. Save money and get buy with what you can for now.

On the rental part i do rent it out but i pull it n the guy who i work for/help he pays a rental fee n is SUPER careful wen loading, tires i went with the 14ply Hercules so far n my opinion GREAT tires already have had 3 nails n never went flat, do have the walk on fenders, have the 3 way tailgate(standard on Ironbull along with the tarp), scissor lift, for me hydraulic jack was a $500 option, i have stake pockets on the sides AND the doors(ALMOST a 4x4 size), license plate is mounted to my back door side boards

Now the truth is you're just hurting yourself not the DOT running heavy. It's hard on equipment and generally a bad practice to get into because what you save in fuel you give away multiple times in parts and "free delivery"
Especially if you charge for delivery... Once you get to where you can haul a full cord you are hurting yourself hauling more for free.

I've seen other dump trailer videos from manufacturers that say gravity down is very slow in very cold weather. What has your experience been?

      @InTheWoodyard  Před rokem

Because it is another vehicle and our trucks can be used for many other trailers too.

My trailer is 6ft long, has a single axle, and is not allowed to carry more than 750kg (1650lbs). I can back it anywhere...and I was very sad when the guy I ordered it from laughed when I asked if it could come in pink..😂👍🪓💪🇦🇺
