Neutral here. Before the lazy cynics start pathetically mocking Mbappe and incorrectly use the tired cliches that he ghosted or was in a Dortmund defender’s pocket all game long, it’s clear that he’s most effective playing off the left. That’s not to say he can’t play forward but the problem with him playing up top is it not only isolates him from the play too much but makes it much easier for opposition defenders to contain him in tighter and predetermined spaces. Mbappe smashed the post, nearly had an absolute peach of an assist, held up the ball effectively, combined well with his teammates, and made several runs off the ball that pulled multiple defenders with him creating excellent opportunities for his teammates to score. But I think Enrique is keeping Mbappé up top instead of out left, in large part, to keep the team more balanced because Mbappé is not known for tracking back.
Dortmund statically were very good against PSG, their defense was solid. Hummels, Schlotterbeck, Ryerson and Maatsen were all class💪🔥. Underrated team with so much quality
