Jason, I've been watching for 2yrs or so. While most of my structures are plastic, you've given me the courage to move into wood,& scratch built units. Thanks Pat, in Western Mass.

I really appreaciate that when you talk about working on your layout that it is about the structures and not about the trackwork. I believe there is a lot of focus on the track work and I really appreciate your approach coming at it from a different angle.
That said, I think it is going to be really incredible seeing trains running between all of these amazing structures. -Heath

Speaking of new techniques, has anyone here tried acrylic transfer for signs and posters? Done a few for other artistic purposes on canvas and they usually turn out quite worn and rustic which would fit perfectly for this type of modelling given the wood could take the beating of all the rubbing you'd have to do. I'd love to see you, Jason, try it. Download a poster, mirror and size it in photoshop, print and transfer with acrylic medium on a wall in your layout! Anyways, nice work!

I don't know what's more enjoyable. Your work or your enthusiasm.
Does Walthers make craftsman kits now? 🙄
I've been working on brick patterns for laser engraving wall modules or complete walls depending on the type of structure. Mostly 3 to 5 story industrial buildings. If I can I'll shoot you some dfx files. The industrial ones are meant to be a layered construction. The inside layer has the brick courses and window openings. The outer is the re-enforced concrete support structure. The stories range from 12 to 18 feet in height. Often industrial structures of the period used the height above the work floor for overhead conveyors that handled moving stuff around.

Instead of the styrofoam covering the door and painted as sky, why don’t you place a shelf on the door (to be hidden by the train trestle) to allow you to build some more larger buildings to fill in the door. That door display would be able to open with the door and again close, fitting right in. Just a thought. Love your display.

Another great video Jason! I honestly don't understand why you don't have more subscribers. You're just under 29k and you should (easily) have 5X that, if not 10X or more. There are other model train CZcamsr's out there that have several 100k subscribers and are no where near as informative, instructional or enjoyable to watch.

I keep telling people about Jason. But I think part of the issue is the number of people who build craftsman structures is a small part of the hobby today. Maybe when Jason starts doing the scenery more people will start subscribing.

Hi Jensen. You talked about raising the terrain level to come up under the reversing loop (currently sitting on red and green canisters), Why not continue letting the land rise so that part of the loop has to pass through a tunnel, thus effectively disguising the loop?

    • @JasonJensenTrains
      @JasonJensenTrains  Před 2 lety

The lower level track will go through a tunnel under the upper level. The upper level track will go in between tall buildings which will hide the loop a little. Thanks for watching!!!

Man, I was starting to have withdrawals. LOL you have a big project. I do have a question…. On the pier where your car ferry will be, is that going to crowd you too much on the left side? Looks good on paper but we all know how that works. I really like the paper brick. I printed wood flooring to try inside my buildings. It works but n scale so small it’s not noticeable. Can’t wait for your next update

  • @sergiovasconcellosocriativo

Amazing Job! Jensen, I really admire your work. I make small dioramas and I also can't make my creations "clean" or fresh from the factory. I would like to leave a suggestion. The layout of your huge diorama is rectangular or with several rectangles that you add as you need. The empty space, where you circulate, or will circulate, is like a junction of several empty rectangles. What do you think about making empty spaces more organic or rounded, as if the area where the water, the sea, or the river will be placed were a channel that surrounds the circulation area? And I imagine you will only use ink to represent water. What do you think of using epoxy resin, about 3cm thick. The aquatic space would encircle the entire circulation space and would not have sharp corners, avoiding bumps and accidents... Ok, this is just a layout suggestion. I know resin doesn't grow on trees (I have a hard time getting them around here, besides they're expensive)
A big hug and congratulations on your great work (and patience)
    God be with you

Another great build Jason. The rooftop signs you've made with the wood letters from Michaels is a great idea! However, the smallest size letters are 3/4" tall. I'm looking for letters 1/4" to 1/2" tall. I've looked several places online with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks Jason.

Talk about developing a technic on the fly, that is way too cool ! I plan on buying a couple of stains to work with, they really are a great base to work of of. Really happy to hear you are going to build paper brick buildings. I found a place that sells them in N scale and use my color laser printer to make copies on mat photo paper, just for my use. Love your kit bashes, I have started to do that in N scale and my buddies ask me where i got the kit at. One question for you I plan on building an HO saw mill for my friend what kit would you buy for a base? Thanks

Hi Jason ! I take Your friendly question for comments as great invitation and would really like to understand ;) Your work is really awesome and Your skills and feeling for colors in artistic and material ways are really impressive. As is Your dealing with materials and the friendly and patient way You explain and show everything You do: Greatest respect for that wonderful work ! I always wait for next video with kind of impatience and in fact the how-tos are as impressive as are the results and is the layout. As an architect I only wonder a little about the "arrangement", the site plan of Your layout: All buildings form kind of an amphitheatre in all directions with the wondering spectator in center ... but most of American cities are organized in a rectangular grid site plan that may change direction from time to time ;). So does Your arrangement show a more "irrational" and dreamy design rather than the attempt to show "reality" although the single buildings aim for realism with every little detail ? Or are they meant as kind of a display window ? And couldn't it be interesting to serve some of Your fantastic buildings by train in switch tracks ? Apart from that: Thank You for Your unbelievable videos and the great work behind them too ! They are a real gift to anybody who is interested in model building. Thank You for that, all best wishes and please go on that way !

Thank you so much for the kind words!!! I try to arrange everything on the layout to look good for the camera. Meaning , I want every photo taken to look like a planned painting. Hopefully that makes sense to you. I am a full time artist so I look at the hobby from an artistic perspective. Thank you so much for watching! I truly appreciate it!!!

@@JasonJensenTrains Hi Jason ! Thanks a lot for the kind note ! We never know how our comments fit and I am glad about it ;) Yep, "planned painting" is absolutely convincing as also is Your (hobby-)work and attitude ;) It is a self-explaining term of course and a very precise description of the wonderful arrangements You make with those model structures. It also leads to the kind of surrealistic "worlds between dream and reality": The "Zwischenreich" as Paul Klee called it ;) Best regards from Berlin, Martin.

Hi Jason… great videos you put out and I have learned a lot from you. Building my first layout in the basement with a lot of concrete retaining walls… most will be directly against 1x4 benchwork… basswood seems to be a lot more affordable than sheet styrene, but how stable will it be.. I was going to cover the basswood with a light coat of AK interactive terrain concrete… what do you think?

I’ll spray a primer on them first but don’t usually clean them first. I will definitely have some videos coming up showing how I build the plastic brick structures. Thanks for watching James!!!
