The main concern I have with these "dumb-downed" versions of instruments is that people will automatically assume that it NEEDS dumbing down to be played by the "average" person. It stops someone from exploring the intricacies of the parent/original instrument, rather opting for an easier alternative thinking that's all they are capable of. Also, great to see you at 12k already... congrats 🎉!

Yeah, the guitar is already a very accessible instrument, as evidenced by the abundance of self-taught guitarists.

Trueee. I feel like they want to make more money so they target a more accessible instrument

I think the reason why Guitar Hero is so popular is that there's a clear right or wrong and an immediate feedback. It takes away the frustration that the typical beginner of an instrument has: that, even if you play through something without obvious mistakes, it doesn't sound very musical. Maybe the rhythm is slightly off or the sound is not great or the dynamics make no sense. You're just not at the point where technique is less of a concern and you can focus on how you think it should sound. Playing with intent is the hardest thing to learn imo, and that's a problem you'd still have on a dumbed down guitar. Minus the possibilities that a guitar offers.
Also, you can tune a guitar in the same way so that all you need is one finger to play a chord. I guess it takes less finger strength if there's only 3 strings, so I'll give him that. And that is actually a point where a lot of beginners struggle, learning barré chords can be quite painful. But less so on an electric guitar, so again, the advantage disappears there.
And then, there's also the optics factor. The lady didn't look cool, she looked like she was holding a toy instrument. I don't think many wannabe Rockstars would go for a ridiculously small "guitar".

I kinda like the foldable guitar for traveling, but of cause on only if it's very secure and feels stable while playing. I also think that he should have chosen a smaller body, because it's not that easy to travel with a guitar of that size even if it's foldable.

I always enjoy your videos but I don't agree with your opinion about the Seagull Merlin. I think for some occasions and some people it's great if they can make music without practicing much. Not everyone has the capacity to invest so much time in learning an instrument or simply has other priorities and may have a good reason. Me for example, I play violin and practice 1-2 hours a day. If I split that time to learn a second instrument, I wouldn't progress on the violin so fast. But the violin is not a good instrument to accompany a song (a group of children singing a song). Therefore the Seagull Merlin is interesting for me.

    "What's with all the guitars?"
I can answer that. People who have more ego than intellect gravitate to guitar.

    Never hold back. Lol
I down tuned my viola string to B flat to reach a lower register for the song. I felt like a rock star. Lol. 2 half steps was all it took.

If anything, you weren't harsh enough. Several of these people are just hucksters, plain and simple. They offer nothing original and nothing of real value and are only attempting to swindle money from the sharks for businesses that will fail. Fortunately, the sharks seemingly aren't falling for it.
