  • In 1997, Openshaw in Manchester was rocked by the disappearance of a little boy; 8 year old Jamie Lavis. A bus driver came forward and said he’d seen Jamie that day, and following this, he quickly became very close to the Lavis family. But nobody could have imagined what would happen in the months that followed.

I think a random stranger who is suddenly so involved in "solving" a crime should be fairly investigated as well and not seen as just the helper, but a possible suspect.

I'm amazed they took that long to arrest him, but very glad of the "strategic" driving offenses arrest that gave the coppers some time. All in all, good work. Thanks to those teens and his brother coming forward too. The brother will have been pressured not to by his own mam and dad, probably indirectly due to their trust in that c***, bless him.

I don't disagree but that's a slippery slope. I'm already hesitant to call for help when I see something suspicious due to everything being so public. These days, all it takes is a name or picture being put online and now someone's being accused of being involved. 🤷 I certainly agree that this was excessive, but where do you draw the line? What if someone's genuinely trying to help?

@@michelleprieur1 I think it is always safe to assume that everyone is a possible suspect. I was talking about how the family embraced the guy like one of their own. Not sure if it is just me but I find his actions really strange, the way he talks in the interview give me vibes that he did it, maybe that is just my gut. But my point is see any strange fellow as a POSSIBLE suspect and not just a helper. If they are innocent, there is nothing to fear except of course if investigation is unfair and cops are corrupt.
Also, if you are not sure about reporting anyone, you can always chose to be anonymous and tell the authorities that it is just a feeling/no concrete proof, that maybe you'll feel better if they check it out. I don't trust police in my area but if I have the slightest input to save a life, give a possible justice, I will report.
Also I am not giving advice here. Just saying what I thought. I get your point but then again, there is a difference between possible suspect and simply suspect.

The pain of loosing a child is close to unbearable already.. but they also have to live with the trauma that the killer of the little one made himself at home with them.. gained their trust, their love, was near to their other kids..

      @LauraBidingCitizen Před 3 lety +25

@@BellaLeoLicorice I disagree to a point. It’s not that crimes weren’t around back then, because there were (cases such as Kelly Anne Bates - 1996, James Bulger - 1990, Sophie Hook - 1995, Sarah Payne - 2000, Jessica Chapman / Holly Wells - 2002 (the year I left secondary / high school & it was half an hour from me) - just to name a few) - but the streets were rammed with other kids / teens / adults who were hyper vigilant, adults were determined not to let these monsters take their children’s childhood - I remember distinct conversations amongst adults that they didn’t want to wrap kids up in cotton wool & parents constantly keeping watch, kids keeping a look out & parents making us go around in groups more often if we could, but it was also a completely different time in the 90’s. Little technology compared to now. You couldn’t really coop kids up. It’s easy to throw a tablet, laptop, games console or phone at a kid now & let them amuse themselves but back when I was younger you made your own amusement. You’ll always find huge cases (quite rightly) get more media attention, but realistically speaking a child is more likely to come to harm by someone they know than a complete stranger; that’s statistically proven.
Things like this have been going on since my parents era of the 50’s but it didn’t stop them having a childhood, or my older siblings. Things have only changed because we as a society have changed with how we bring kids up, everything relies solely on technology, roles have reversed in family homes - most mums no longer are stay at home parents, a lot of parents have full time jobs, dynamics have just changed.

When I was a child in the early ‘60s, sometimes if there was no one to play with or with one friend, I’d walk three blocks to the grammar and middle school playground to use the equipment. The janitor would yell at me to leave if he saw me. I thought he was crabby. Now I know he was worried about what could happen to me. The school was a bit isolated. Seems these creeps are everywhere. My kid spent a whole day training back and forth between Dallas and Fort Worth before we found her, she was having the time of her life and did not mind that she had lost mommy and daddy (until she got hungry lol).
She was also doing exactly what she was told, if she ever get separated from us don't move - we'll find you! The police thought we lost her at the terminal, so they didn't thoroughly search the train we'd come in on and since all the trains were given a cursory search, they didn't find her and let the trains go on running.
I had a feeling she was just distracted by the scenery or napping and kept asking them to search the trains AGAIN but the police were far more focused at all the people in the train depot that could have taken her. I'm sure tons of people watched hours of footage and didn't see her because she never got off the train.
She found us 6 hours later when we rode the same train back home and she heard our voices. The first thing she said to me is I missed you and I'm hungry!
I wanted to shake her, cry and reabsorb her back into my own body so she could never get lost again - ugh that was a hard mom day!
So why ride a bus all day? Why would my 5 year old want to ride a train all day? Kids are kids, when they feel safe they want to explore. Whether that sense of safety is false or not is a whole nother discussion....

These sort of videos give me this chilling feeling, and it's like I can see the world when Jamie was still alive and it was bright and colorful and then after he was gone everything felt so empty and gray...its so disturbing how someone can be there one minute and gone the next. And all the more so when it is in this way. A life that could of been. The last poem by his mom makes my heart hurt.

I was thinking this too. I can see letting your 8a year old play in the yard, or maybe even in the neighborhood (if u know neighbors well).
But an 8 year old going to the bus station on their own?
I believe the video said he was seen there at like 10am.
So an 8 year old goes out to play at 10am. And parents don't think anything til it gets dark out? At that point you haven't seen your kid for what? 7-8 hours?
I feel awful for the family, but an 8 is still too young to be out of sight for that long of time.
