- Case 259: Jamie Lavis
** Content warning: Child victims, child sexual abuse **
When eight-year-old Jamie Lavis failed to return home on Monday, May 5 1997, his family quickly raised the alarm. Soon, it seemed as though all of Greater Manchester was searching for the missing boy - including a bus driver named Darren Vickers, who came forward to say he’d seen Jamie on his bus that day. The 27-year-old bus driver quickly became one of the Lavis family’s biggest supporters, but investigators were suspicious of him from the very beginning…

He’s a sick and evil monster. I was relieved to read he was denied parole again in Feb 2023.
The fact he is even offered ought to piss everybody off.
TY for the update.
The audacity to befriend the family. This guy really sets the bar as low as you can go.
Jamie and i went to the same primary school and i lived on the same street as his family, it was really sad to see it unfold. My heart goes out to them
His parents are absolute morons of the highest order. They literally let that evil monster live in their home.
Your audience stays right with you, every word, for the entire journey. Casefile is a masterpiece.
As far as this one goes- HOW could this individual ever be released? He tore that little boy apart after using him for his sexual gratification. Everything about this is wrong. If he could literally tear a child apart at any point in his life, he is lacking something basic and human. He certainly didn't find it in prison.
He's lacking a soul
He was denied parole
Good.
Put him in population
Brilliant!
And they should keep denying it!
Darren could claim that the sun would come up tomorrow & I'd want a second opinion.
I live in the UK and remember this...its just a parents worst nightmare, manipulative pedophile pig is what he is , makes my skin crawl...great narration as always 😉
If you live in the UK why are you spelling paedophile the American way?
does it matter.really?
@@themorgan1111 Yes
why?
@@themorgan1111 Because we need to protect our language and culture from Americanisation
Nobody can tell a story like you do.
How many people on this planet are bereft, scarred or dead because some wastrel needed someplace to put his wattle?
Yep. I don’t remember the exact quote, but I recently read a comment from someone on Reddit that said something along the lines of “How many women, children, people, or animals have to die or suffer for a man’s nut?” It makes me feel dirty just typing it, but that doesn’t change the fact of the matter…..
These monsters crave control. The sexual part is perversion. It speaks to how truly warped their minds are.
What is more sickening is that this monster was offered parole.
He was married. It has nothing to do with that. It's because they're violent and entitled.
Honestly how you approach a case shows how well you studied the case before. You bring the information in an organized language with a soothing tone. No matter how horrid the topics of the casefiles are, i always appreciate your storytelling. Its like we can see everything unfold right before our eyes. Thank you for all the hard work you put in and may all the victims find peace 🕊️
Odd that the older brother of the missing boy was allowed to continue riding the bus when the missing boy uhhh disappeared while riding the bus.
I'm sure those parents aren't the brightest candles on the cake.
@@BrigitteGoodman LOL 😅 that’s ace I’m going to use that !
It's easy to judge; but when you're desperate and flailing around for help, you grasp any hand. I hope he gets jail justice some time.
Yes. The parents not only have to cope with what happened to their son, but also the betrayal of the monster who did those things to him after pretending to be there to help. Then they have to feel an insurmountable amount of guilt for what I'm sure they feel is another betrayal of their son, by letting that POS into their lives and not seeing him for what he is. So many conflicting emotions.
They were vulnerable ☹️
They can just throw away the key for this guy's cell, no need to even pretend to consider him for parole
I agree! and cute kitty face BTW😺!
Oh no some libs will move heaven and earth to get him out.
Yep. Too bad we have to use tax dollars for this piece of #$%$&$*
@@jerrymarbury9365 he was refused parole in Feb 2023 with the parole board saying 'he is not suitable for release'
@@jerrymarbury9365 just stop it, jerry.
Your coverage of these cases is so well done all the way around. Bravo My Friend. Thank you.
He mentioned the monsters behind the horrible Moors murders in the 1960s, and they both stayed in their cells since the 1960s until they finally died!:)
Mom says, "part of me wants him to come home." What an odd thing to say.
That stood out to me too, but I think she meant that part of her knows he's never coming back, but part of her still holds hope
She must have been out of her mind with anxiety dude
@@user-mm1cf1zd6vthe other thing could be like, if he was still alive, maybe it meant he was enduring unspeakable things. Wishing for him to still be alive may mean wishing terrible pain on him. She must have had awful things on her mind. I have a disabling communication disorder but no one who isn't an expert can tell by just hearing me say a few sentences. Reading so much into phrases from people, especially people we know are innocent victims, is unfair
How absolutely despicable!
Having another Casefile party alone in my room on a Saturday night instead of going out. Whoop whoop ❤🎉
You should create a club 😅
It's always early Saturday morning here
Sounds like me on a Friday night. Im content with staying in for the night with Casefiles as opposed to going out. 😊

@@AbbiWilliamson let's doooo it. We can get jackets.
Perfect timing. 10pm here in New Zealand. Bedtime story 🫣
Excellent podcast. This is such a sad case, as in any case involving a child. The sick psychopath that killed Jamie should never be released.
Great podcast ! Your research and coverage of cases all over the world with empathy toward the victims..
I remember this case .. so sad
Desperately sad....i hope this monster NEVER gets out.
Jamie's very description is so contradictory: street wise & confident, yet small for his age, afraid of the dark & fond of lollies.
Many thanks frm the UK mate 😎😎👊👊👍👍✌✌👌👌
I’m disgusted with the parents for allowing an eight year old child to catch a bus on his own.and a child out on his own just before dark, especially in that area this is unbelievable.
Don't condemn the parents! It was a different time. Loads of parents were confident that their children wouldn't come to harm by being out on their own, at the park, on busses, and such. My friends and I used to ride our bicycles all over our city, played in parks, were up to all sorts of harmless fun, always knowing we had to be back home by suppertime. No harm came to any of us! Parents today are too soft, creating scaredy-cat kids who crumple up at the first sign of hardship. "Helicopter" parents, is the term for such parents today.
It's not that strange of a thing to do, esp in Europe where it's generally very safe
@@krisrp0 well that’s strange because my husband and I and our two very young children ,left the uk because it was unsafe and that was over forty five years ago and thank God we did.
Been liistening to this podcast on spotify for a couple of years. Your voice is so soothing, though talkung about the worst things. ❤
So sad, so tragic. May the monster NEVER see the light of day.
Awsome as always 👍🏻
Many thanks Casefile ❤️
41:00 How disgusting that the perp tries to throw the parents under the bus with vile allegations.
We've seen it before, and should even be expected from a child murderer, but it doesn't make it any less repulsive.
If i was Jamie’s father i would’ve been devastated he didn’t get parole. I would be at every parole hearing on his side begging the parole board to give the poor guy another chance at life. Just in the hope so i can catch up with him & have a beer & a chat with him. Well i’ll be talking & he’ll be screaming LOL.
What is wrong with you are you mentally sick? He sexually abused and killed an 8 year old child and you want to have beer with him?
Absolutely horrendous! Can't get my head round the fact that this poor family put all their trust in such a person. So glad that he was caught before he killed another child. There are no words.
The parents are naive to the extreme.
Amen
But nothing compares to the loss of a beloved
Thanks Matey 👍
This was very intriguing
I read this rock spider got beaten over the head with a hammer in prison.
Couldn't have happened to a more worthy recipient.

That's an insult to spiders. 🐸☕
If a child is scared of the dark, they are not "streetwise" and capable of traveling around town by themselves.
Ding, ding, ding... I hit on that too. Simply casual parenting at its best.
I wish people weren’t so quick to judge the victims. We don’t know enough about them, where they lived and let’s not forget it was over 25 years ago. I can guarantee you Jamie’s parents kick themselves everyday for allowing him to ever leave their home, let alone ride on buses by himself.
Traveling around during the day isn't the same as being scared of the dark. I was traveling to school and around town to meet friends at 12 and did so with confidence but I still wanted a small light on at bedtime.
I'm 37 now and can travel anywhere during the day but would definitely not be doing it at nighttime because I know I'd get lost lol
@@CarlyJOne it was a different time. My eldest son was born in 1972. So by the time Jamie was murdered, my eldest was 25 yrs old. We lived in a suburb of a very large city: Los Angeles. There was no casual 'nothing better to do bus riding' at 8 yrs of age. His 1st across the city, on his own, bus trip occurred when he was 13. He had mapped out the schedules, routes, where he would transfer, cost everything: to attend an event he considered important, while I had to work. I had friends who thought that was too risky! And I know, that if something tragic had happened on that day, folks would have questioned my parenting too...
In the end all we can do is learn from our own, and even other's, mistakes.
@@victoriaross3263 I'm old enough now, @ 70, that many of my friends don't see well enough to drive @ night anymore! Different ages require different transportation planning.
I got genuine goosebumps at the last poem. No parent should ever have to bury their child, especially not a child so young.
Rest in peace, Jamie.
Karen is a gentle trusting spirit: but no Darren doesn't have a conscience. He is a manipulative, lying, child molester: basically he is a monster.
Who is this narrator he is brillant such a horrible case i hardly cry over these crime cases this got to me anytime to do with kids and animals
The poem at the end 😩😞 💐
Truck drivers and bus drivers etc are in a position to cause all kinds of grief and should be screened (and to some extent monitored) way more thoroughly
Any updates? Is he out? Thank you for bringing awareness of this sad case
No. Denied parole.
@@markkofi8522 thank goodness and thank you for your response!
He’ll be released soon enough. The “Justice system” has cancer.
Cannot believe you pronounced the surname correctly. No one ever gets it right. Thank you.
Great Saturday morning 😊
I am so glad they went through that for being so stupid both of them and I do believe that she did sleep with that idiot
Lmao he's so obviously lying. The fact that the tabloids published it is gross. Don't give the killer what he wants.
That's fine go ahead and let him out just don't be upset when he winds up in the sausage😊 society will regulate its self ,law has prevented it in modern times, but before that it worked just fine for thousands of years,I know if I was a parent that this happened to I would prey for release, and have a welcoming party to greet him on the way out of prison, you did excellent on the video as usual, thanks for the content production 👍
This could be done on radio.
How lazy can you get.
Why do you buy an 8!year-old a day ticket for a bus crossing a big city? What were those parents thinking? Mommy too busy with her brood or chatting with the neighbours? Sorry, but a bus ticket for such a small child is gross negligence. Of course he became prey for that psycho bus driver. Easy prey. He was like fast food for him.
How do you not see ~or in any way communicate with~your eight-year-old from morning till 3 in the afternoon and that is somehow considered "normal".
In the UK, in 1997, ALL PARENTS KNEW BETTER
Jamie had passed away before my brother existed
Vile waste of oxygen...
It is just terrible
Very depressing, you can have more children disappearing and private chat rooms. With grown men, keep up your scientology
First time I am early, neat!
Here because the podcast isn’t playing on apple podcast 😢
Darren Vickers will never be released. He'll die in jail.
Why do I get the feeling that their "friend" is the guilty part?
17:29 bookmarked to continue
Wife, wife, not partner.
It can literally mean the same thing. It’s like saying “that’s not a person, that’s a man” A man is a person, a wife is a partner
Hey, is it me, I have no sound?
I hear it. Log out youtube and come back in
Audio is working for me
They just let a child run the streets? This is why I can't stand lazy parenting. If they had done what my parents did on school holidays this wouldn't have happened, they could have had a day of fun planned instead of the kids getting bored and roaming about town. Then they make friends with the last person who saw him and went against the police because they trusted this complete stranger more? Poor Jamie, he had no chance. 💔
🙄🤨 Hey victim blamer - helicopter parenting doesn't help with the other 99.9% of abductions - from someone you know and trust.
If you feel the need to be a sanctimonious 💩 so much.. tell it to your cats.
We had fun playing outside.. unscheduled. These are VERY rare occurrences. Lazy parenting, indeed.
Beat it.
It was the 90s, you genius. Kids from all over the world were out and about alone. Your comment is pathetic .
There have been cases of children being taken from their own room while their parents slept in the next room.
