I think the invert that creeps me out the most is going to be the roaches. As a firefighter/paramedic I have had the misfortune of having to go in a lot of homes that were infested with roaches. Because of that the idea of keeping them on purpose just doesnât work for me. Iâd constantly be worried theyâd get out and infest my house.
a lot of the roaches we keep are tropical species which wouldn't survive long if they got out, anyways. I don't know if that helps you any lol but
@@marjoriesinverts Iâve read that was the case, but itâs just one of those unreasonable feelings that people get. Decades of being grossed out by them will take a while to overcome. I see people putting their hands into their dubia colony and Iâm like âno no no sir!â đ
It's a big concern and a good reason to get kicked out by my landlord if he finds out i would keep roaches.
@@michaelyork2292 thatâs so fair honestly. I have dubias and at first they freaked me out because when they latch on to your hand they do kind of tightly so they feel safe and comfortable that you wonât drop them. Scares you the first time lol. But I will say theyâre the only feeder Iâve had for any inverts or reptiles that havenât bitten me! Theyâre super chill :)
I agree on the creepiness factor on roaches, but personally find nothing cute about them, although some do, at least for certain species
5 years ago I would have said any arachnid is creepy. Now, all of them are pretty cute actually. Enjoyed this video!
Excellent picks for creepy+cute arthropods!
I appreciated how you mentioned that isopod husbandry is continually evolving đ
Your videos are such high production value. They deserve more views!
I absolutely agree. I watch other similar channels and wonder how they get more likes and views than Richard's. Makes no sense to me. But I stay đ€«
It's not just about production value...
Personality, entertainment value, PR is more important than just pretty pictures. And the hobby itself is very niche as the majority of people hate spiders.... sadly.
Great video! I am pretty surprised that blue death feigning beetles didn't make the list. They are certainly one of, if not THE cutest pet invert.
Yeah. I missed the boat there. And I even was showing someone one of them the other day. I think it was even the day I was filming all the footage for this video. đ€Šââïž
I absolutely love all of those. Besides the obvious tarantulas, I think Jerusalem crickets are really cute! Definitely creepy too though đ oh and sun spiders!! I've kept a few as pets and they're so great.
I must add a velvet spider to my little collection. They are perfect for this list!
Your definition of cute is definitely not the same as mine, but I do LOVE your enthusiasm for all these!
lol
Centipedes especially the giant Vietnam. I can't say I get freaked out but,I personally don't have a huge hankering to work with them like I do with spider's.
I just got my first vinegaroon and I'm in love â€ïž they really are cute wiggling their little front legs around while they explore.
As a keep of isopods, I think it's also a downside that it's virtually impossible to keep track of any one isopod out of the colony.
Bro you capture some of the most clear dope shots of these insects! Super impressive

Thanks, just got my bio dude 10 gallon kit. Amazing stuff, keep up the amazing work.
I've already shared the news on another video of yours, but I'm so excited I'll share it again. My B. hamorii has arrived. I'm already in love with her. Named her Charlotte, of course đ
We have all these lil guys! Plus hissing roaches, a bumblebee milipede, ghost mantids, and ofc our tarantulas and a curtain web spider. Add in our black cats, snakes, frogs, toad, and rats, and we have some of the most stereotypical creepiest pets. Not sure why, but we just love bugs that freak us out lol
Oh no now Im in love with velvet spiders! đ SO ADORABLE!â€â€ edit: YOU ADDED THE RUBBER DUCKIES OMG YES
Omg. Great video quality... I'm dying at your version of cute. The pando rolly pollies ( lol) and the velvet I could handle. You're pretty cool!
Nice video Richard. I assume all these amazing shots are coming from those new open filming areas you were constructing. It really does look fantastic...very naturalistic.
My whip scorpions are one of the stars of my collection! People always freak out that the bug from Harry Potter was real. Lol. I have mexicanus and they are typically out in the open and less skittish in my experience.
Taylor Swift Scorpion đ
As always great videos man! Really appreciating the time and effort you put into the videos. The East Coast Reptile expo is next month and I'm slowly getting a bioactive terrarium set up for a new T. All thanks to you!
You def have the best ever tarantula-exotic pet room out of all the vloggers! And your camera work... none compares! đ€đ€đ€
I know this is a channel for terrestrial invertebrates, but I really like my feather duster tube worm in my reef tank. He is cute with how he sucks his feather duster in and then slowly, hesitantly sends it back out. He actually lost his feather duster for a while which I thought would kill him because those are actually gills, but he regrew a super tiny one and it was really adorable how you have this big tube with a his tiny gills sticking out.
So far the cutest inverts I have dealt with are baby mantises. Sure tarantula spiderlings are adorable as well, but seeing a single or horde of these twiggy little beings, looking at you⊠you just canât hate them. Had this happen three years ago where I had bought 3 mantis oothecas at an expo, pot them in a bag of oak leaves. Then I couldnât find the third one when I got home; not at least until they hatched out of the leaf bag and were everywhere. Theyâre easier to round up than spiderlings for sure.
What I liked most are the isopods. Very interesting.
I do love that they look like rubber duckies. Invertebrates are super interesting to observe.
I liked the look of ladybird spiders, but Iâm in Wales in the U.K. and itâs just too humid here. Iâm glad I learned that they need really low humidity before I got too attached and got my hopes up! At the moment my out-of-enclosure humidity meter is reading 60, and thatâs with the heating running; in summer itâs frequently around the 90% mark, so it just wouldnât be realistic. Itâs a shame cuz theyâre super cute. That said, I know theyâre currently trying to rescue a cute U.K. native species of ladybug spider from the brink of extinction, so maybe one day there could be a variety in the hobby that is able to tolerate U.K. conditions.
I love vinegaroons and tailless whip scorpions, but almost never see either of them.
I never post to CZcams but I have to say in my 18 years on this site you have made the most beautiful looking and informational video I have honestly ever seen.
I just wanted to post and let you know that you should never stop making these videos I wish nothing but the best for your channel!
Keep up the super sick videos Iâm happy to have found you!
That's very kind of you. Thank you so much for the support.
Love the macro shots. I am partial to the isopods though as an isopod keeper. I think one that has a possible spot on your list is the pill millipede, especially as juveniles. A. vulgare (or any terrestrial isopod) would also score quite high on my list too đ.
Creepy DEFINITELY has to be giant centepedes (Scolopendra heros for example) I absolutely love them but they are definitely the thing of nightmares if you would be prey sized for them đ
Love these videos! My favorite is definitely the velvet spider đ
I added a vinegaroon to my collection late last year and I am absolutely in love with her! She's so pretty and easy to care for.
I have been watching for awhile now and I want to see these view and likes go up. You so much deserve that. I have told a few more people so let's hope they subscribe and what not......let's see, cute invertebrates....I would have to go with the Blue Death Feigning for sure...next time I see them at an expo I will be getting a few. Awesome video, thanks Richard!!
I just adore Tailless Whip Scorpions đ„șđ
As one of the few people that has been bitten by an Eresus spider, I can confirm that it wasnât harmful. Slight stinging, a little itchy but gone after a few hours.
It was from a Eresus sp. Balcanicus tho.
Loved this video! The new set ups, new place and everything look amazing- and as always, your cinematography is impeccable.
Great video, the studio sets are awesome!

boy is CAKED
Hello great video information Richard
Love the video â€
I don't think any scorpion can be called "cute" but they are most certainly badass looking invertebrates. Strange topic for a video lol
Iâve always wanted a velvet spooder! Gah so cute!!
The Velvet is way cool. Since they resemble jumping spiders, can we add Phidippus Johnsoni to your list? I captured one and kept it in a jar on my desk. A lot of character. Little did I know that it was a female ready to make an egg. To my delight, I found the little babies, small enough to escape through the holes in the lid, bungee jumping off from the top of the jar. I released them all, but I wished that I had tried to raise them.
Very cool!!! Thanks for sharing. I like informative videos.
Great video! â€
Velvets and rubber duckies are on my "wish list" â€
Wanted to thank you for all of your amazing content and information. You have been the biggest inspiration for my love of all these creatures. Thank you for all of your hard work and info. đđ»â€ïž
I've been eyeing the Eresus walckenaeri for ages now, but always have issues findings them, but it is a must have for sure! As for a unique vertebrate, I always liked millipedes and Derby's flower beetles. However the big beetles don't tend to live very long in captivity. :(
Rubber Duckies...... every time I see them mentioned/shown I get so sad, not able to get them in Australia. Out of all "exotic" pets we can't have, they top my list!! Them, and newts. Okay, and a G. pulchra!
But my common pillbugs and slaters aren't too bad.. I certainly can't knock their entertainment value.. nor their husbandry requirements, as my dozen initial ones are now into the many hundreds in very little time!
Now i regret not seeing a velvet spider up close when i had the opportunity đź
Any chance you might be working on a care an husbandry of the chilobrachys sp. electric blue?
I wouldn't say it freaks me out, but I really like the flat rock scorpion. Arn't they docile along with venom weak toward humans?
Could you do a care and husbandry guide for the p regalis or chilobrachys sp. Electric blue?
Video idea: top 10 tarantulas with special/difficult husbandry requirements
Giant millipedes, hissing roaches, and jumping spiders.
looking good man
this isn't Tarantula related but will you cover the topic of Black Widow spiders dying in the hands of Brown Widows
I love your videos. Your my source for husbandry videos.
I found this fascinating đ
I'm so glad đ
Great video and donât forget that invert keepers are more than welcome to join USARK. Memberships start out at $20/year.
Sorry each to their own, but cute all apart from the vinegaroon and the toilets whipp scorpion. But thanks đ
cool vid, thanks
I with be with you on the isopods and Spider but thatâs it đ not a fan of scorpions⊠yet
Cuttlefish are cute invertebrates đđ but they are also kind of scary when they eat đ so are:
centipedes
Snails
Crabs
... I feel like I could go on đ
đđ sorry, you completely lost me with vinegaroon and whip scorpions being cute. Like what?đ
Extatosoma tiaratum!! So cute but sooo creepy đ
I loooooove the isopods !!!!
Look up spider enchantments! It's where ei got my velvet spider! She is amazing
The ladybird spider was first discovered in doorset England UK all it dose do here in the UK is rain đ€Ł and it's always like 98% humidity soo im sure they be just fine surely?
This species is from the eastern Mediterranean.
Are those rolly pollies? I used to live in Colorado and I saw the same looking insects there all the time.
Vid time 6:26
For me my cutest pet is fireleg tarantula because looks squishy but dont squeezeđ just keep them proper to achieve their true lifespanâ€â€â€â€.
The velvet spider is the cutest. I find the scorpion creepy, the first one that was in the video
These are a bunch of cuties
Psyttala horrida (king assassin bug) i have a colony of them
I put myself in this category too
I have a velvet spider Eresus walckenaeri!
Richard for President!
I love velvet spiders â€â€â€â€
Can you take the acid from the vinegaroon and make tabasco out of it?
mole cricket is my pick.
I just got a striped knee trantula today how do you calm her down she jumps out of my hands how do you not make her from stop it Richard
No scorpions for mee !!!! They creep mee out as do the vigeroons !!! I loooooove all other bugs !!!
Millipedes! You didn't include millipedes?
Especially the pink dragons!
Overall, a pretty good list though.
I dont know if its a kind of thing you do or not but for the life of me i can't find anything on the actual science behind how a spider creates webbing. I understand its created in the Silk Glads and the spinnerets thread them and all that. However I can't find anything about how the Silk Glads... "refill"?? Or even how webbing can be pushed out at high pressure sometimes. I was thinking about this b/c there is a Darwin Bark Spider video where it shoots webbing 25 feet out. I get the wind helps carry it across but my brain can't understand how a spider that small can create such a long constant web. Does it not run out?? I can't find anything about this and its really bothering my need for understanding
what are those shelves you use to keep your animals on?
check out the link, in the description of any of my videos, for my Amazon Storefront. I have the shelves listed there as well as almost everything else I use.
jumping spider
I had also thought that velvets live 4-5 years but unfortunately thatâs not correct. I had mine for about seven months when I noticed the palps swollen. I sent a picture to the breeder and found out thatâs what happens with males before their last 1-2 sheds. Males live maybe one year, females can live longer but not several years. I confirmed this with Tom Patterson to make sure hoping the breeder was wrong. I ended up sending Tom one of my males around this time for his collection, and he sent me a baby in hopes I may get another female.
The velvet spiders shown in this video i have had for 2 years, they were already about 6-9 months old when I got them. They still have a few more molts before they reach full size. Lifespans I quoted were for females, males typically have a shorter lifespan in most species of spider.
Bro Help, what's the best drill bit to drill into this little softball display cases without cracking them? Any tips
Start small. Use the smallest drill bit you have or can get. It should drill clean, then move up a size or two and re drill that same spot. If you're doing a lot of holes, it can take a while, but it's worth it. The thicker the acylic you use, the less likely it will crack.
@@tarantulacollective thanks man
African giant millipedes!!
Great video and Iâve always loved all kinds of creepy crawlers and pretty much kept every different kind over 30plus years. Iâm happy to see isopods becoming more popular and available since they were some of the very first critters I started keeping as a child. Now I have all kinds of species from all around the world world and still love watching them and keeping them specially since they play an important role in cleaning and feeding my reptiles and amphibians bioactive enclosures. Check them out sometime if your interested and hope everyone has an amazing day and wish you all the very best đââïžâïž
I'm thinking a Japanese purseweb or are they Australian I forget... One of the two hands down, they're gorgeous and extremely dangerous.
What about Praying Mantis?
Camel spider are cool and interesting but I can never find any. Have you kept them before?
i had one once butit only lived a few weeks. It was pretty bad off by the time I got it home from the expo. They are a species that does not do really well in captivity and all you find for sale are wild caught. Since that experience I havent tried keeping them again.
@@tarantulacollective wow thank you for replying, I will remember this when and if I ever see some available. Also love your videos keep up the hard work.
Iâve heard it asserted that the sensation of creepiness comes from being unable to establish whether something is a threat or not; for example, a Grizzly bear isnât creepy, because you know itâs a threat, but a man in a mask can be creepy, because itâs really not clear. Cuteness, on the other hand, is an emotion that exists primarily for a species self-preservation; we are hard-wired to see babies as being cute so that we are more inclined to care for them and not harm them, thus helping in the survival of the human race. Interestingly, humans also are able to view other creatures as being cute. This is possibly related to the fact that humans tend to anthropomorphize animals (assign human traits to them). This in only a guess, but might in turn be related to the way that our brain processes faces, tending to see faces even in places where they donât exist. For those who believe in Christ, thereâs also the fact that biblically weâre called to steward the animal kingdom, which cannot be ignored as a possible fundamental explanation.
Anyway, all that to say I think itâs actually be a rather rare occurrence that youâd run into something that you personally thought of as both creepy and cute; theyâre conflicting emotions. If you think itâs cute, you almost certainly donât think itâs creepy. I will concede itâs much more likely that you would find something to be cute that someone else, maybe even most others, would find as creepy.
I love every species on this list, but I feel like a giant centipede should have made the list....I find them creepy and I know people who love them
Hi Richard
Hey man whatâs the best online place to buy tarantulas
There are quite a few great ones. I lost all the dealers I recommend on my website. www.thetarantulacollective.com=resources
Thanks man I appreciate it
What abaout mantis
Do tarantulas eat their young?
