    I just hope they don't cram a 4k display or something stupid like that into these things. The only reason it can play games locally at a decent framerate is because of the 720p screen, which is FINE.

    • @Bobbylim323
      @Bobbylim323 Před 7 lety +9

      Exarian its not advertised to be. It's simply what users of their gpd xd wanted, the feedback was taken in and placed into the gpd win

    • @AnTran147
      @AnTran147 Před 7 lety +6

      It was never meant to be a Switch competitor. This was just a device that GPD wanted to make after the XD and after taking feedback from their fans with planning starting around October last year. Aside from being handheld gaming machines, they won't be interfering with each other's market with maybe only a few people deciding to get one over the other.
      Basically it's nothing like competition between DS and PSP or 3DS and Vita. More like 3DS/Vita vs iPhone/NVIDIA Shield.

      I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 with Intel Pentium T2390 2x1.86GHz, 2GB of DDR2 ram and GMA X3100 graphics.
      CPU is okay-ish for light use, but the GPU is complete crap. 2GB of memory doesn't cut it anymore either, and I can't even upgrade because second SODIMM slot is dead.

    This is basically like if Sony would just let you use your Vita/PSP how you want instead of locking it down.
    I remember using my PSP to run emulators, browse the web, VNC into my server at home, use SSH to connect to school servers when doing homework back in 2007. Was awesome. Vita had a chance too, until Sony locked it down.
    Meanwhile, you can pretty much use a Windows device in any way you want.
    Wish I could just have a gaming handheld-form factor device as my phone/mobile device. This GPD is honestly a step in the right direction. I've always hated how mobile hardware companies made every single device in the last 8 years a brick with a big screen and 1-4 other buttons, no other input.
    The Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS PSP, Vita, they were all good user experiences. Even the Nokia N-Gage, as limited as it was, was a step in the right direction for cell phones imo.
    I would kill for a PS Vita-shaped Android/Win10 device with full touch screen mobile experience, traditional gaming inputs (which work fine for mouse/scrolling input and basic navigation functions), that can make outgoing calls with 4G LTE and built in mic/speakers.

      Joseph DiSalvo I seriously regret selling my psp 3000 to get a ps vita. I will never forget the emails I got from Sony every few weeks saying in the next update they are removing functionality for more and more apps. Also the proprietary charger and "sd" card was such a horrible move by sony. There are sooo many other things I can criticise much more about the vita, like its UI. Man that thing was a disaster.

    *My suggestions to improve it:*
    - Switch the not-quite-powerful Intel chip with a *Kaby-Lake M CPU* and a *dedicated low-energy GPU*
    - 1080p screen
    - bigger screen
    - Take the keyboard off and put another USB-port into it instead.
    - Use the additional space to improve the button layout
    - improve the shoulder-buttons / add a trigger for L2/R2
    *Everything else looks nice!*
    - *Runs x86_64 Windows 10 natively* so virtually *any PC* game can be played on it one way or another
    - Has a Touchscreen
    - Has controller-buttons built-in
    *All in all:*
    This device (with the mentioned improvements) is what I wanted the Nvidia Shield to be in the first place.

      100+ is for the consumer version where you get a license and can install and move from device to device as you like. They are getting the OEM version which is locked to the motherboard from the factory, but a lot cheaper. Actually, I think Microsoft gives away OEM licenses for free to devices below 8 inches screen size, as part of their strategy of building up mobile market share. That's why there's a lot of 8-inch Windows tablets around and almost no 9-inch or 10-inch ones.

      No, it is shipped with Windows included, and even if you could then the price difference would be much less than 100$ because OEM's like the producers of this thing get an OEM license, which is a lot cheaper. If I remember correctly, they actually get it for free because the device screen is less than 8' diagonally. So no, there's no reason why you should get a 100$ discount for dropping Windows even if you could do that.

    I remember being blown away when I saw a concept for a mobile device that had a port for Sega Genesis cartridges similar to how the Game Gear worked. The battery life is what killed off the project. Now look at all these devices we have now

    This device also impressed me, it is perfect for retro gaming. Older PC games, or other games running with emulators. Sure the battery life is bad, but just use a external battery pack to charge it and you can play for a long time. Plus this is such a great portable win10 device if you need to use it for that as well.
    It would have been nice if they had a more expensive version that was a bit bigger and thicker so they could squeeze more power into the device. As long as you can put it in a normal or large coat pocket.

  • @Null_Experis
    @Null_Experis Před 6 lety

    I own one of these, and it's AMAZING if you care for every PC game made before 2012.
    It will run ALL OF THEM, you might need to run them on low settings, but they all run smoothly.
    It will also play modern lightweight indie titles.
    This is a great device if you like me and spend 12 hours a day working away from home or traveling to/from work and want to get in gaming during lunches, breaks, or on the train.

    Yeah, the port count is insane on this one. Also, I use a school-issued MacBook; just a couple days ago, I looked at my father's 4 year old HP laptop and was amazed (it has more than two USB ports, one ethernet, and even some VGA ports).
