Amir Pourghoureiyan if it had used the Ryzen 7 4800u it would be really good
They started the design with the same AMD as SmachZ but they had a lot of issues and AMD wouldn't provide much support so went back to Intel. They plan to use Tiger Lake with the next version however if Amd would support smaller manufacturers better they would maybe use 4500u or 4700u I reckon.
@@amirpourghoureiyan1637 GPD talked about this. They tried to contact AMD about using an apu..... but AMD wouldn't even return their emails. GPD isn't a huge manufacturer like asus or lenovo, so I guess AMD didn't feel the need to bother.

@@huseyinuguralacatli5064 hardly it is more powerful than iGPU from two years ago more powerful than my mini pc I got a year ago in terms of GPU unless you buy a dedicated graphics card. I have not purchased a dedicated card in more than a decade I'm iGPU and excited by eGPU buying small compact portable and hidden computers is what I've done for more than a decade after my last desktop.
Hook it up to a monitor via hdmi and plug your own mouse and keyboard in.

Thunderbolt 3 for the external GPU dock may have been a priority unfortunately removing a Ryzen chip from the pictures. Otherwise it'd have been a landslide.

Something I think would be cool would be an integrated detachable keyboard that folds in half and recharges wirelessly from the laptop.
If you fold it up, you can set it into the laptop and use the shrucken keys, it's actually akin to a book. The shrunken keyboard is the cover and a full size one are the two pages in it if that makes sense.
So you set it on the table, pull the keyboard out, unfold it and it connects wirelessly through the laptop (maybe an integrated USB dongle thingy). Then all you need is a mouse.
AND THE LAPTOP CAN HAVE VENTS BEHIND WHERE THE KEYBOARD WOULD SIT TO ALLOW FOR BETTER COOLING.
You'd have to make a bit thicker, but I think it'd be really useful.

Those "stability issues that prevented me to test battery life" are windows issues. Introduced by the 1903 or 1909 update. Sometimes during long network file transfers, your PC will randomly hang/lock up completely and your only resort there dear buddy, is to pull the power plug.

You're absolutely correct. However, it happens due to Windows scheduling and process handling. It's not an all-out bug, more like a side-effect of a very secure task scheduling methodology. When transferring files, the workload is often sideloaded when the CPU is in active use, or it is entirely offloaded to memory controllers when the CPU is idling. Windows may end up taking that as a no-work state and lock up, trying to secure the scheduler - normally, you'd get the lock screen, but in this case, it is still working within Windows file-system. Hence it stays up, but get's locked off.
To prevent this... try having some kind of monitoring software live all the time... I keep the AMD Radeon Settings and Ryzen Master on all the time. They ping the system for sysinfo all the time, periodically and hence can keep it up.
Watching GPD go from being a really niche company with 2 devices the GPD win and the XD to a company with many competitive micro pcs that have become decently normal talk in pc culture is amazing. The gpd pocket was one of the most unexpected successes in pc history, singlehandedly rekindling a want for micro pocket sized pcs despite the fact smartphones where commonplace. Who wouldve thought 4 years ago that people would be buying laptops not much bigger than their phones as an actual pc to use for work and not some throwaway gag.

There are quite a few changes they def need to make but that thing is a SOLID base for a redesign. What a monster of a little system.
The fact that this little thing has more I/O than most full sized laptops already sets it ahead of curve. It's too small for me to be use for anything important, but at least it can play old games well enough.
Imagine with a lower power consumption from an AMD chip, plus the extra GPU power from it. Now, the thing it really kills this device for me, it is the prospect of a battery swap down the line. A more than capable PC portable gaming console, but that portability can get killed down the line due to sub optimal battery performance. If GPD offered official batteries, sure, but AFAIK, no luck.

@@shagstars Android is NOT Linux though, Linux would be a more appropriate solution to windows, this guy probably means that more than just android. Also, the 10nm Intel parts are not far from if not equivalent to the AMD counterparts on this lower end scale. It's not about power consumption would be about the same for the performance it's giving, the only benefit would for sure be the better IGPU or as AMD call it an 'APU'.

I think he forgot about the fact that the GPD WIN MAX is the third of a long running series of mini-gaming laptops. Before this pc there was GPD WIN (1) and the GPD WIN 2 which are way smaller than the MAX he showed in the video. So he should’ve titled the video the GPD WIN MAX instead of the smallest gaming laptop.
Keep in mind though this is just an observation, I haven’t watched yet so if I said something wrong I apologize in advance.

I was so dissapointed they didn't go with ryzen on this one. This performance is worse than what we get in the udoo bolt.
It was supposed to be amd machine but 2000 and 3000 series chips were too hot and amd's support sucks, so if you are a small developer like gpd with not enough engineering resources you are fucked.
They had to move on and switched to ice lake.

AMD didn't have ready engineering support for when they were making this. Intel with there massive R&D teams and engineering support was the only solution. I expect AMD chips to show up in better mobile devices as PS5 and the new series of XBoxes make landfall and eventually get ray-tracing support via software libraries.
That is exactly what I do, the Win Max is my only computer, I take it with me everywhere and when I am at home I dock it and use the thunderbolt 3 to drive my Razer core x chroma and its great for me.
Like this small pc. See it as a Intel nuk alternative with extra features

But yes I also agree that amd would be better, but only for the gpu, cpu wise intel is ahead now that they have 10nm. and tiger lake will be better because it will have much higher speeds, intel did good with ice lake but had problems getting speed out of it.

And the first EUV AMD CPU is going to be ZEN4 on 5 nm, probably in late 2021 or early 2022.
I know this kind of device takes quite some time to develop, so maybe, just maybe, they will go with an AMD Renoir for the next one?

Some people may complain about the GPD Win Max being too big, to be considered a "handheld" device. Just like with phones, we thought today's models were too big, compared to say an iPhone 4; but eventually, we've adapted. Same principles apply with the Win Max.

Yes, there were PDA's, Nvidia shield etc..and tablets can be argued as handheld mobile PCs, but all these things were always limited or had too many drawbacks and compromises in some way - not enough raw power, gimped OS's, reliant on streaming etc...

That's what I was thinking. TBH, considering its price, I'd rather try my luck at Parsec running on a raspberry pi than dropping the money for something like this.
I've tried parsec and the latency doesn't hold a candle to what I get when I stream from my PC to the TV via the Nvidia Shield TV box. Nvidia really worked a LOT on reducing the latency and it shows.
The Steam streaming box was also garbage. Gave me stuttering and was limited to 1080p only, whereas the Shield TV can grab 4K60 from the PC.

This pc is probably powerfull enough to make most aaa games playable maybe not to linuses 240fps standard but to my 20-30fps or even 60fps in some cases it is quite the machine

They should make a bigger one. I get their intent was to make a subcompact netbook type of thing but they should make a 13 or 14 inch one - basically a normal sized ultrabook but with the built-in gamepad.
The dpad and face buttons look like some OEM version of the Ps Vita controls and those were some of the best. Especially the Dpad
