  • Hey everyone, check out the demo files here: levelpixelleve...
    I guess this is my final video in my joint series. I'll be jumping onto some grease pencil videos next.

    Those short video for solving a specific problems are great! This is something for begginers, but also for someone that understands the basics, and watched all intro-to-rig tutorials. Keep 'em coming!

    Thank you for sharing your problem solving steps rather than just showcasing the end product, it's very helpful and more entertaining to watch.

    Man thank you so much! I'm rigging a cardan joint for a robot and it was breaking over and over again simply because of the quaternion thing, without this video I would have struggled for hours for nothing! Thanks a ton!

  • @FynnGB
    @FynnGB Před 3 lety +4

    thanks for these special case tricks! they are often the main reason why more complex rig setups tend to break
    Could totally see this be the fundamental building block for a robot rig for example
    All the best

    Man thank you so much for making this video. Had the EXACT same problem and was also trying to figure out a solution that uses 1 control bone. Actual fucking life saver

    i really liked this one, i had in issue with a weird ik chain for a robot arm, this might help me with that

    • @aronseptianto8142
      @aronseptianto8142 Před 3 lety

      i also didn't know that the rotation on the object mode actually mattered for rigging, I thought it's just different visualisation, idk how else I would know this, thanks a lot

    • @LevelPixelLevel
      @LevelPixelLevel  Před 3 lety

      @@aronseptianto8142 Rotation mode on the objects should not be an issue, unless they are directly using rotation constraints. And let me know how it goes with your robot!

      well, it's not quite an ik, but it's progress

  • @alcoolwarriors
    @alcoolwarriors Před 3 lety +2

    super informative! could a system like this one be driven by IK? I'm thinking about a mechanical arm of sort

    • @LevelPixelLevel
      @LevelPixelLevel  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you! And yes, this can be driven by IK, it will need a couple more bones, great idea!

  • @WaterShowsProd
    @WaterShowsProd Před 3 lety +1

    You often mention changing the rotation space, this is the first time I can recall that you've shown how it changes the result. I am curious as to why it does though. Could you do a video explaining the different modes and when and why you might choose one over the other?

    • @LevelPixelLevel
      @LevelPixelLevel  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, I can talk about it more - short answer is I use rotation order to avoid gimbal lock. For example, if the rotation order is xyz, then the x axis will carry the other two with it as it rotates, meaning if this is an elbow I'll make the x axis the main rotation to avoid gimbal lock. I talk more about that here: czcams.com/video/Hi1hrWhAcf0/video.html

    • @WaterShowsProd
      @WaterShowsProd Před 3 lety +1

      @@LevelPixelLevel Ah, yes, I do recall your video on gimbal lock. I'll have to watch that one again. Thank you for reminding me of it.

  • @MoctorDac
    @MoctorDac Před rokem +1

    this was immensely useful for getting to grips with how armatures work in blender, though is there any particular reason that you created each axis bone pointing to the side? rather than straight up?

    • @LevelPixelLevel
      @LevelPixelLevel  Před rokem

      Main reason I did that is so when I switch from Local to Global in the transform axis they stay the same in their default location.
      But this should work with the joints pointing up as well.
