  • I have a confession to make. This is my first S.H. Figuarts action figure. I know, I know. But what better way to start than with a Star Wars figure? Better yet, one of Luke Skywalker from Return of the Jedi? One word: Amazing. I'm hooked.

    The SH Luke i think is the only Luke figure that actually looks like Mark Hamill.

      Well, it's quite hard to make a detailing comparison fair for a high-class 1 feet tall action figure that's 6 times pricier.

    Not a fan of the golden hair, looks darker in pics. The face is excellent though. The black series looks like something from the 90's compared to this. Bandai may not produce a lot of Star Wars but everything they've released has been better than Hasbro's version IMO.

      +harryc I think they were going for a realistic sheen that real hair has, but they went a little overboard with it.

      @hazzawazza1000 Před 9 lety +4

      Samuntrus Yeah I agree. It could be worse. But It's a more expensive figure and they put so much work into everything and they should have spent a little more time experimenting on colour. From further away and not under the bright lights that Fwoosh has I'm sure it's fine.

    I kept waiting for a Black Series version that will top this. The most recent RoTJ Jedi Knight version was close but no cigar. When I found this Figuarts version go on sale at around $55 shipped at a local online store, I didn't hesitate to jump on it. I'm guessing a lot of people are going to be wanting this version again after the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian. I just wish there's a Vader that I can pair with this. I don't want the SHF and MAFEX offerings. Black Series is my go-to for Vaders as they use soft goods in the appropriate places.

    The possible major reason why the old Anakin''s unmasked head part is bundled with Luke instead of Darth Vader himself was because Bandai didn't start actively implementing the digital print paint technology they used on Luke, and Vader's unmasked head (as well as the recently released Episode 1 Obi Wan Kenobi) back when they first released Vader's SHF, which was months before they did Luke. While Bandai did actually initially used the paint method on the Michael Jackson SHF they made a few years ago, they never started fully utilizing the technology to its full potential to render human-like faces until Star Wars became one of their major franchise for their figure line alongside Kamen Rider.

    Love your reviews The Fwoosh and totally agree with most of what you're saying here. The faces in particular on the Figuarts stuff blows the black series out of the water imo (much that I generally like and collect the Black Series). BUT, as a cg sculptor I do have a reservation about this Luke and its just the overall narrowness of his body and in particular the hips area. It just looks...funky to my eye. At the 15:22 mark the way you have him posed here with his legs splayed outward there's just a distinct awkwardness to him around the pelvis area. And that's a combination of hips that are too narrow and leg joints that are placed too close together, I think. I'm just surprised nobody has really picked up on this because I think it's a fantastic looking figure let down by this one issue. I'd probably still buy it though! :) And certainly in general is far superior to its black series equivalent. Thanks for the review.

    • @TheFwoosh
      @TheFwoosh  Před 8 lety +1

      +dazzp You know, now that you say that, it does seem that the hips are set a little low and the "diaper" look of the crotch kind of makes everything drift narrow and low. But still an awesome figure, haha!

    It's a bummer that Figuarts' Star Wars offerings seem to range from jawdroppingly stunning (EP. IV/VI Luke, Mace) to painfully average (Vader, Kylo Ren). It's sort of an inversion of most other SW lines were they do masked and robotic characters well but fall facefirst when trying to do clothed humans. At any rate, it's still my go-to line in a post TVC world.

    innitially the price tag deterred me from even considering this, but seeing it on video, man that looks awesome. Bandai is just taking Star Wars figures to a new level. Hasbro has just fallen behind and seeing the Figuarts and the Black series side by side the Black series looks like a Kenner figure in comparison. So based on that I'd rather have one figuarts figure than four TBS ones.

    About the S.H. Figuarts figures.Be very careful removing the hands you just one to put one hand on the wrist and the other on the arm and wiggle it off putting it on is not that bad but people with big hands might have a problem.Second given that it is a Figuarts figure little disappointed about the lack of accessories it is not common in their other releases. Oh there is no comparing this line to the Hasbro 6in line that would be comparing a Lego figure to Hot Toys.

    I agree. There face sculpts have became increasingly better with every new wave. Their biggest problem is not giving Caucasians any color at all which is unrealistic. I love black series but if I could afford it and they offered more characters I’d be strictly figuarts due not only to their sculpts and paint apps but their accessories. How cool would jango be if he had the arrow like he does in the figuarts line. And even though the new kylo in BS looks good the mafex one blows it away! I put the windswept hair on the serious face and those both on Tatooine Figuarts Luke body. Then I added the poncho from the landspeeder and TaDa!!! It's Luke from the scene when he finds crispified Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru... Swear it looks exactly like Mark Hamill in that scene!!! But of course Figuarts Looks awesome for all their figures, but they are also more fun swapping heads and hair and what not. Of course I mix n match Black Series too, especially now that they are hoping their game (Mace Windu *looks* like Samuel L Jackson for both Figuarts and Black Series... But Black Series so has that cheaper toy feel whereas Figuarts just feels premium, but for the price difference I can deal with feel!). Still hoping Figuarts does an IG-88...if their take is as awesome as the Figuarts R2-D2 is to that bubble gum machine R2 Hasbro figure, then we'll finally have the imposing Droid bounty Hunter IG-88 should be! (Apologies, dang, so easy to go off topic!):-)

      +Victor Matheus I think the Black Series still has it's redeeming qualities. For main characters I say go with Figuarts (when they announce them) but I don't think the overseas companies will get as deep as the Black Series. General Hux, Greedo, background characters. BS still supplements the collection, but Bandai and Medicom and others will kill it with the big important characters.

    The Foosh, your videos are making "Hasbro" look like a "Has Been". This is not a bad thing because it is only making my decision easier as to which figures to add to my collection. Again, great video. I only hope they release the ANH (Farm Boy) Luke Skywalker soon.

    • @TheFwoosh
      @TheFwoosh  Před 9 lety

      cavx01 Same here, now that Jedi Luke has swayed me I definitely want that ANH Luke and Han they teased a while back. The bare chested cloth shirt one Hasbro showed interests me for custom purposes but the Bandai one looks to beat it all around.

    • @cavx01
      @cavx01 Před 9 lety +1

      The Fwoosh That is an issue I have it Hasbro's Black Series is the mix and match of plastic and cloth. It may seem to add quality, but it takes away detail and detail is what I want.
      What makes Han Solo (ANH) so good is he is all plastic and he is a pretty decent sculpt. If you going to do a ANH Luke, he should match and also be all plastic with the same accessories that came with Han - IE the TK belt and blaster. Hopefully they will also include the grappling hook and holder so his belt does not have the thermal det.

    • @TheFwoosh
      @TheFwoosh  Před 9 lety

      cavx01 I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm okay with cloth sometimes, maybe a cape or such, but when the whole figure is covered in it, it does bug me a bit. I worry about ANH Leia.

    • @cavx01
      @cavx01 Před 9 lety

      The Fwoosh Yeah that is a concern. I ended up buying 4 x 3 3/4" Leia just to get a nice one that didn't look like She-Man. I bought two from a market where one has an all cloth gown and other has no blaster, but probably the best Leia I've seen. I can see these 6" versions being the same.
      Call me odd, but I just want the original 12 in 6" now. I have a nice 3 3/4" set of high detailed original 12 on the vintage back ground. I bought Jabba, but not really keen on buying figures from ESB or ROTJ.

    first off i have to say im not a fan of hasbro, nothing against anyone who is, but how bad did this figuarts figure make that black series figure look, and if u ask me thats the cream of hasbros crop, i love the looks of figuarts, i dont own any articulated figures but i do have some DBZ statues, i have thought real hard on buying an iron man one but havent pulled the trigger yet lol the one thing that has stopped me is there size, they r a little small but the detail is so nice it trumps the size thing lol, great review man, what a cool figure

    • @TheFwoosh
      @TheFwoosh  Před 9 lety +2

      Erndaworms GamingAndToys The Iron Man and other Figuarts Avengers were what originally put me off picking up this Luke, because of their size. I'm glad I came to my sense though, haha!
      I think the Black Series still has some gems that will stick on the shelf. That's not to say that Bandai couldn't do better, they totally could, but how long before we get a Boushh or a Greedo? Bossk? I think that's where Hasbro should take the line, into more secondary and tertiary characters that overseas companies may not get to. Like finishing off the bounty hunters with Dengar, 4-Lom, and Zuckuss.
      And someone give me a Lando!

      @WSPBane Před 9 lety +1

      It's not a fair comparison between Hasbro and SHF they are different price points for twice the price plus shipping they should be better.
      I love SHF and Figma however the SHF Luke is a let down compared to the newer well engineered SHF figures like Broly or Cap. In general they skimp on accessories compared to other SHF most likely due to the license cost but it's still a bit of a let down for the cost. Figuarts should be vastly better then Hasbro. it's just not a fair comparison we don't compare Play Arts to Sideshow or even Marvel Legends to SHF Iron Man why is it that SW fans do so? my guess is its because only 1 company has had the license.
      As for Luke he has no bicep swivel, no real waste turn without straining him. He's a good figure not great. the hair line is horrible and not blended at all.
      maybe Mafex will look good but right now Figuarts is all in with a Battle Droid, Clone Trooper, Biker Scout which is 199 on BBTS ouch, Kylo Ren, 1st Order Trooper, Young Obi-Wan, Cap Phasma they are really stepping it up and I'm sure they'll be great.

    • @TheFwoosh
      @TheFwoosh  Před 9 lety +1

      Syrath But we do compare SHF Iron Man to ML Iron Man. I mean, we haven't done a video review of that, but there are more than a few pics and comments on the Fwoosh forums. We compare any figures that are the same scale, in order to see which is the better option for our shelves. Price points aren't that big a deal. Scale is the huge deal.

    • @syrathxaj1504
      @syrathxaj1504 Před 9 lety

      Let me expand was typing on my phone. There is no comparison between the Hasbro Iron man, Iron Pat or War Machine to the Figuarts version. In most collector groups I have not seen any one say boy the die cast feet look way better on SHF because it's obvious they are better they are twice the price and made with a much higher quality. Take the recent Cap from SHF he comes with the ability to change his eyes, this is compared to the Figma Cap because they are in the same weight class. Versus SW fans it's turned into bash Hasbro for their 20 dollar mass produced toy vs a collectors figure made with that target audience in mind.
      if we go look at a SHF Iron man Mark 45 review like DAmazing how many people are comparing the figure to Marvel Legend Iron Man? Say in compare to this review? The only questions are about scale not bashing Hasbro, I find that odd. Same with Marvel Legends collector groups on Facebook, yet the Black Series groups devolve into bashing Hasbro.
      You can argue people do compare but it is not nearly on the same scale, just look at your comments section and you are feeding into. There is no reason to hate one because we like the other.

      Cdog Cdog It doesn't have pull down in the hips unless mine is super tight, they aren't going anywhere. The Figuarts are just a bit tiny, the armored characters worse than the human types. Standing Luke and a Stormtrooper side-by-side there is a slight difference but in a display all bunched together they look good. I use both in my display.

Just not entirely sure cause Force Friday is right around the corner and I want those new Force Awakens Black Series figures, so I gotta save money. I assume you will be buying and reviewing those?
    On the topic of Figuarts Vader, from what I've seen, he's not worth it. The wonky cape and skirt are pretty restrictive, and the size is completely too small, even compared to other Figuarts.

The KO figurarts versions are $16 shipped so I thought it was worth the risk. I'd prefer the real deal but sometimes it's my only option. KO's were the only way I could afford a Black Series Darth Maul and Boba Fett. I wouldn't need to do this if they wouldn't limit supplies like this to drive up the prices. So I'm interested to see what I get with this Luke.
