Grayson Krapovicky I enjoyed the movie a lot myself. But how I feel won't help how many people see the movie. I think audiences have low attention spans these days.
+Reeloy Kenjins Or, they just aren't into "artsy" movies. This movie definitely was, but come on....that's one of the reasons why it does live up to the original! Tron: Legacy, I didn't hate, but where it falters was the pace. Yes, the pace...2049 doesn't technically suffer with pacing because it is slow throughout and it goes through necessary story beats. Legascy felt the need to throw in, not really consistent, if well-choreographed, and well-edited, fight scenes and action scenes.

When it wasn't even mentioned early in the video and then we got to Lady Bird at number 2, I knew it had to be BR 2049 just because of how much he loved it in his review. I wholeheartedly agree with it being number 1.
stepitup25 I'm just confused as to why James McAvoy hasn't gotten an Oscar yet. I mean the man played Mr. Tumnus. He should receive the Nobel Prize just for that
When I first saw Split, I was so happy that James McAvoy was finally gonna get the acclaim he has deserved for a long time. Its awful that awards seem to have forgotten about it.
@SkinnyEMedia The movie was not very good but it was also well-acted and unintentionally funny especially from McAvoy's mentally unstable character(s).

I watched Blade Runner 2049 on Opening Weekend with a group of people and as the credits rolled I instantly thought to myself .... "Wow ... I just saw the only film that I can safely say is my Favourite Film of All Time". The rest of the group I was with, more than half said it was boring or just pretty to look at, but oh man oh man is it so much more than that. It's story telling at it's finest. Complete and utter Masterpiece! Just ordered the 4K Blu-Ray of it. Can't wait to watch it again!
I watched it with a full audience in IMAX. The whole time the theater was silent and it felt like it was filled with tension. I was immersed in the world of 2049. A few minutes after the credits rolled... the dude on the left snapped out of the film, turned to me and said, "That was fucking awesome."
You can still watch the film, and enjoy it, without having seen the original, but please do yourself a favor by watching the original first! It adds a depth to 2049 that cannot be had otherwise. That way you can see just how incredible of a sequel 2049 really is!
Logan_Scott_ went to see it with my bro and granny, me and my bro thought it was alright but my granny hugely disliked it, but it think it was because my uncle said it was boring before we even saw it
FUCK YES Blade Runner 2049. I've seen it four times total--twice in the theater and twice since the digital release--and it's cemented itself as one of my favorite films ever made. Top three, easily. People keep talking about what a technical masterpiece it is, but I think it should be equally recognized for its writing, especially the fascinating character arc Officer K goes through. Truly one of the most tragic, emotional, yet subliminally hopeful transformations ever put to screen.
Agreed! The story was so well-written, it could have been a bare-bones production with little to no special effects, and it still would have been fantastic. They actually got right the concept of visual effects enhancing a film, rather than being the film.
@@theshawshankinception1220 yeah exactly for me it's: #1 2049 #2 Three Billboards #3 Logan #4 Dunkirk #5 Thor: Ragnarok (for no apparent reason I just love it)
I was sitting here wondering IF you would mention "Blade Runner 2049" and each time you didn't, I was getting scared you'd say some other film. You didn't disappoint Chris. Thank you for mentioning and for making it your favourite film of 2017. I know it was mine.

@@nathankennedy3927 thats what i thought at first and it took literally all my energy to get past the first 30 minutes but after that i was completely hooked and grew to love it
Very true. Awards season is all about politics. As long as Roger Deakins gets best cinematography, then I'm happy. Denis Villeneuve deserves some major attention as well.
Wow, someone else who liked Bladerunner 2049?! I can't believe it!! I loved that movie; partially because Hans Zimmer composed for it and he's my favorite, but also just... everything. Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, the cinematography, that TWIST! A beautiful movie, and worth seeing in the theater.
Max Messmer...BR2049 also had an interesting story and a complex interesting character (K) at its center... Yes, its not better than the prequel imo, many would say otherwise but I found the prequel to be miles ahead of its sequel..
Alper Sertel To be honest with you mate, if you don't think it's a very, very well made film at the very least... then you don't know much about film really. If in your opinion you think it's bad then that's fine, but you have to acknowledge that as a film it is one of the best in the past couple years.
I don't want to comment about general audience because I also like movies that people said kinda dumb like Fast & Furious 8 and I actually do not find Transformers 5 awful. I REALLY love Blade Runner 2049 and even watched it twice.

Most of the academy are stuck up 60+ year olds whose hearts still reside in the 1950's. They will never be able to appreciate movies that the younger generation does yet they vote on what movie THEY think deserve the award, not the general public.
Fuggler a la mode You can tell me the oscars are fucked and irrelevant and you would be right. But saying it’s because they don’t take into account the general public’s view is asinine. The general public has no fucking clue how to define a good film, just look at the box office performance of any transformers movie.
Dominic Decoco I loved the original movie’s style and setting. Sadly I felt 2049 had no style and was set in a completely different world (not to mention different sub-genre - it didn’t feel cyber punk at all to me). Even though the story twists were very obvious I felt the movie was ok.

If you loved it, you're not looking hard enough. I don't mind the new aspects introduced, in fact I appreciate Johnson taking those bold strides, but I feel the execution and delivery of many scenes and arcs were either unfullfilling or wasteful. Read Casino or Phasma for example.
7. IT 6. Spiderman Homecoming 5. Blade Runner 2049 4. Thor Ragnarok 3. Dunkirk 2. Logan 1. War of the Planet of the Apes My Absolute favourite movies of 2017
I'm still in awe over the way GDT took a story that sounds absurd on the surface, directed the sh* t out of it by bringing the actors to those levels, conceptualized multi layered symbolism (which went over a lot of people's heads), pulled in tons of old film references, cultivated the best production design on a low budget, hired Desplait for a Oscar winning score, and turned it into a multi genre adult film. F*cking incredible, as none of us predicted 2017 would have given us that. One of my favorite best pic winners.
Same. I actually think it's better than both Sicario and Hello or High Water. After the film finished, no one left their seats until the credits finished.
Kes Eylers Stephenson Same! I was like, "Holy hell, that . . . That was amazing and horrible and uncomfortable." And yet, afterwards I realized, I didn't watch a movie at all. I had an experience and for better or worse, I was apart of it. Aside from Dunkirk, I felt like I went through something really stressful and the reality of the situation was harsh and unyielding. It certainly isn't a film I can watch all the time but, it is a film that needs to be seen. It gave me hints of Shindler's list as far as bleakness goes. And the isolation! God I felt cold and alone and I forgot everything but what was happening on screen.
Jingle Dangle Agreed! I don’t know why other critics put Get Out as their #1 movie of the year. It’s a good movie, but man is it overrated. Blade Runner 2049 is a masterpiece of cinema! If there are other three films I’d add to the list, it’d be It, The Shape of Water and Twin Peaks: The Return. It’s an 18 hour film split into episodes.
2017 was an incredible year for movies. Here's mine: 10. Good Time 9. Wonder Woman 8. Get Out 7. Dunkirk 6. Logan 5. It 4. Lady Bird 3. Coco 2. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri 1. Blade Runner 2049

I used to say alien was my favorite movie of all time. In 2017, all that changed. Blade Runner 2049 took that mantle. Movie was a marvel of modern cinema. Bravo and I'm glad stuckman's opinion agreed with me on this one.
Underrated future cult classic, IMO it's up there with Pan's Labyrinth. Del Toro didn't get the respect he deserved for this film or Sally Hawkins and Doug Jones.
Caesar should give Andy Serkis his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor, but the Academy can't see past the fur. This was some of the finest character acting I've ever seen, and the fact that it shows through the digital paint is in itself an amazing accomplishment. Am I wrong? What are your thoughts?
1 Logan 2 Blade Runner 2049 3 War for the Planet of the Apes 4 Thor Ragnarok 5 Baby Driver 6 Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri 7 American Made 8 Star Wars: The Last Jedi 9 Spider-Man Homecoming 10 Gaurdians of the Galaxy Vol 2
It's alright to like a movie more than an other one knowing its not as great I like "The Dark Knight rises" more than "The Dark Knight", but i know that 'The Dark Knight" is better
Chris! PLEASE review The Killing Of A Sacred Deer!!!! That movie exploded my head and I have got to hear your theories behind it!!! I think you will LOVE it as well... duuuuuuude, you gotta see it!
Blade Runner 2049 isn't just the best film of 2017, it's *one of the best films of the decade and truly a science fiction masterpiece. Box office aside, I'd say that it's very similar to Avatar or they're different sides of the same coin. If avatar focused on CGI and special effects then Blade Runner was the answer to that with its practical effects. In time I truly believe BR2049 will go down as one of the best films of all time.
Blade Runner 2049 will go down as one of the best science fiction movies ever. War for the Planet of the Apes will go down as one of the best motion capture movies ever. Logan will go down as one of the best superhero movies ever. Baby Driver will go down as one of the best action/car movies ever. All 4 will go down as some of the best movies ever.
Ben Smith I first saw Chris in the Nostalgia Critic video for Rogue One last year. But his worst movies 2016 list was the first of his videos I actually saw.
It’s weird how growing up in the town that three billboards is based on ( and not the one in the title, they had to change it) nobody talks about it here
First , i am not a boy (Incidentally, you wrote boy wrong, illiterate), i am 26 years old, and second,What to expect from someone who prefers michael bay movies only with explosions than movies with a good story? And third, by the fact that you have called me a fag so many times, shows that you are insecure about your sexuality.
Your top 15 were (almost) all in my top 20. GREAT year for movies. I had so much trouble narrowing down my list to 10 this year. Blade Runner 2049 needs to be seen by everyone.
Unfortunately blade runner 2049 bombed at the box office. My movie theater had a decent amount of people in the seats but I am still surprised people decided not to see it even with the praise.
Daniel Lado if it's not a blockbuster action movie, it can wait for blu ray for some people. Theaters are slowing dying. But there's nothing like watching this movie in IMAX, it was incredible.
Well it was still R rated, and pretty sure it ranked in top 3 for R rated this year. Which isnt bad. Just didnt see wide spread viewers due to it being 3 hours long and being a sequel to a 35 year old cult movie hahah
Why? Because one person agrees with you? Find a million more, than we'll talk. Cause I guarantee you, SOMEONE out there has transformers, pirates, or 50 shades on their top 10
Absolutely heard so many people complain that they were bored because they expected a gigantic war in the film but it's my favorite film of the year too.
Gowtham Prudhvi No its because they expected an action heavy movie with explosions left right and centre. If people want that, watch a Michael Bay movie. I agree its my #1 of 2017!!
It's amazing to think that my two favorite scenes of the year Maurice giving Nova the doll and Nova giving caesar water and food have absolutely zero dialogue!
I think Harrison Ford deserves an Oscar nomination for supporting role in Blade Runner 2049. His performance was so honest and real. It is my favorite movie of 2017 as well. Also last year I found your channel Chris and I enjoyed your videos a lot, so cheers to you and to a wonderful 2018.

Very convenient. Thank you
YASSSSSS BLADE RUNNER 2049 is also my favorite movie of the year! It was so so so good. I agree, Ryan Gosling is killing it. 👏🏼
gabbyreads couldnt agree more so happy this is his #1 movie of the year i was scared it wasnt going to be on the list 😂
I didn’t think it would be his favorite, but I’m so glad it was. It’s definitely my favorite movie of the year, and on my top 10 of all time.
When it wasn't even mentioned early in the video and then we got to Lady Bird at number 2, I knew it had to be BR 2049 just because of how much he loved it in his review. I wholeheartedly agree with it being number 1.
Same here! Blade Runner 2049 was just damn great!
same ☺
I feel like people forget about Split since it was released in January.
stepitup25 I'm just confused as to why James McAvoy hasn't gotten an Oscar yet. I mean the man played Mr. Tumnus. He should receive the Nobel Prize just for that
Never even heard of it.
The film defiantly should have gotten much more attention.
that was shit
I also feel the awards season has forgotten Logan because it came out way back in March
When I first saw Split, I was so happy that James McAvoy was finally gonna get the acclaim he has deserved for a long time. Its awful that awards seem to have forgotten about it.
Have you seen DDL, Hanks, Denzel and Oldman? Probably no :)
It’s cause the movie overall was sub-par 😜
ondra wolf lol. Timothée Chalamet is left out?
I unfortunately haven't had a chance to watch Call me by your name, so...
@SkinnyEMedia The movie was not very good but it was also well-acted and unintentionally funny especially from McAvoy's mentally unstable character(s).
My favorites:
1. Blade Runner 2049
2. It Comes At Night
3. Good Time
4. Wind River
5. War For The Planet Of The Apes
6. Shape Of Water
7. A Silent Voice
8. Thor Ragnarok
9. It
10. Dunkirk
YES FINALLY some love for Shape of Water. I loved that film
Its #1 for me, tbh. Because it impacted me the most, and the impact was....massive
I thought he liked It Comes At Night. Definitely better than half of the ones he picked.
Blade runner 2049 is a masterpiece. It did for sci-fi what Mad Max Fury Road did for action
Scarecrow 2710 Yeah but Mad Max was a boring movie with no plot. I have no clue what Bladerunner is and had never heard of it until 2049 began promotion but from what I hear, it succeeds on all fronts as a movie.
Scarecrow 2710 What exactly did Mad Max do for action?
Mr. Manager Breathed new life into a decades old franchise with a modern classic. In my opinion anyway
Scarecrow 2710 I would hotely debate that the movie is anything other than decent. But to each their own.
Scarecrow 2710 too true
I can't believe you gave DAMN a 7/10

Was looking for this. Thanks
Don't know how Hostiles didn't make the list, but like Chris said, we all have our opinions.
A few minutes after the credits rolled... the dude on the left snapped out of the film, turned to me and said, "That was fucking awesome."
do you think i can watch with no problems even if i have never watch the previous ones?
You can still watch the film, and enjoy it, without having seen the original, but please do yourself a favor by watching the original first! It adds a depth to 2049 that cannot be had otherwise. That way you can see just how incredible of a sequel 2049 really is!
Thiago Oliveira I watched it without watching the original. I was able to grasp the story and enjoy it still. I recommend watching it.
ChardBotham 💯
Blade runner 2049 was the best of the year for me . It was original and brilliant
It was amazing.
yay.. spoilers :3
Agreed! The story was so well-written, it could have been a bare-bones production with little to no special effects, and it still would have been fantastic. They actually got right the concept of visual effects enhancing a film, rather than being the film.
This is why he's one of the only critics I take serious. Got the list perfect. Blade Runner 2049 does not get enough love
2049 is so amazing
Yeah I knew Chris would probably be the only one with it as his number one.
Andrew J i hope he does another review, this time with spoilers
Yeah except Dunkirk was 8 and Three Billboards was 11. Those two and BR 2049 are my top 3 for the year.
@@theshawshankinception1220 yeah exactly
for me it's:
#1 2049
#2 Three Billboards
#3 Logan
#4 Dunkirk
#5 Thor: Ragnarok (for no apparent reason I just love it)
I appreciate being able to watch these lists without you giving away spoilers like most others. Keep up the wonderful work
I was sitting here wondering IF you would mention "Blade Runner 2049" and each time you didn't, I was getting scared you'd say some other film. You didn't disappoint Chris. Thank you for mentioning and for making it your favourite film of 2017. I know it was mine.

Daniel Engberg I'm still waiting on his updated blu ray collection video
2049 might honestly be the best film of the decade...
mike kenneth it’s close between 2049 and Whiplash, IMO.
So true man. It was such a great film..
I literally walked out of the IMAX with my buddy and said "This is probably the best movie I've seen in YEARS."
Excluding non american movies, maybe
Alexander Hank - Then you need to see better films.
2049 is a lifeless bore on its own right, and dogshit, uninspired entry in the Blade Runner saga.
I'm happy I'm seeing some love for Blade Runner 2049. This film has been grossly overlooked for awards season so far.
doesnt have meryl streep = awards people dont care
Robin Cecelia Hans Zimmer is a BOSS
Blade Runner 2049 #1! That movie is like an orgasm.
Max Messmer just your opinion...you are not right..
Max Messmer also, if you found BR2049 boring, no idea how you sat through Lawrence of Arabia..
Max Messmer...BR2049 also had an interesting story and a complex interesting character (K) at its center...
Yes, its not better than the prequel imo, many would say otherwise but I found the prequel to be miles ahead of its sequel..
Chris has a HUGE man-crush on Ryan Gosling..
yup, last years list he put the nice guys at number 1 ..such a trashy movie
james williams Who doesn’t have a man crush on Gosling? And no The Nice Guys is great, not best of the year but it is great
The Nice Guys was great, La La Land is amazing, and Blade Runner 2049 is a masterpiece. I def have a man crush on the Gos man.
james williams The Nice Guys was amazing tho!
Blade Runner 2049 is a masterpiece. Nothing more to be said about it.
Its an overhyped pile of crap. Very happy that it tanked in the box office.
blackfox1320 it tanked because of shitpieces like you.
blackfox1320 Okay cheers for your opinion mate
haha!! masterpiece? you're funny.
Alper Sertel To be honest with you mate, if you don't think it's a very, very well made film at the very least... then you don't know much about film really. If in your opinion you think it's bad then that's fine, but you have to acknowledge that as a film it is one of the best in the past couple years.
Glad to see Blade Runner 2049 at Number 1, completely agree

The Rockets blew a 26 point lead.
Sixers blew a big ass lead too.
Blade Runner 2049 deserves the high score. It’s such a shame that it bombed at the box office.
If it makes you feel any better the first Blade Runner bombed to, but it eventually found an audience. Same thing will probably happen.
John Campea said it best that Blade Runner did not show what the movie was going to be about in the trailers and failed on promoting the film properly
GYR O I hated the trailers more after seeing the movie than before the movie.
Oh hell yes! The first person to agree with me what the best film of the year was. It was truly spectacular. Getting it Tuesday.
So sad to realize that the most masterfully made movie of the year was a total failure at the box office. Tells you a lot about the general audience.
The emoji movie?
Rishav Siddhanta fast n furious.imma mod muh 🚗 n shiet !!!
I don't want to comment about general audience because I also like movies that people said kinda dumb like Fast & Furious 8 and I actually do not find Transformers 5 awful. I REALLY love Blade Runner 2049 and even watched it twice.
I mean it made over 100 mil but it's budget was also over 100 mil

Chris's views differ so much from the Academy's. I think he should be in it.
I think The Academy should be taken off life support and allowed to finally die. It's the merciful thing to do.
Most of the academy are stuck up 60+ year olds whose hearts still reside in the 1950's. They will never be able to appreciate movies that the younger generation does yet they vote on what movie THEY think deserve the award, not the general public.
Fuggler a la mode I mean if the general public had their way, a marvel movie would win best picture every year
Versus a biopic winning best actor every year? How's that any different
Fuggler a la mode You can tell me the oscars are fucked and irrelevant and you would be right. But saying it’s because they don’t take into account the general public’s view is asinine. The general public has no fucking clue how to define a good film, just look at the box office performance of any transformers movie.
Blade Runner 2049 is my favorite movie of all time. No doubt it’s the best movie of 2017. Masterpiece
Dominic Decoco I loved the original movie’s style and setting. Sadly I felt 2049 had no style and was set in a completely different world (not to mention different sub-genre - it didn’t feel cyber punk at all to me). Even though the story twists were very obvious I felt the movie was ok.
wayne finch and it’s ok for you all to be wrong. :)

THE SHAPE OF WATER?! HELLO?!!!
HelloHannahLee movie was overrated and bad imo
Water has no real shape as it is a liquid. I'm sorry to tell you that, son.
Totally agree with you on Blade Runner 2049. A masterpiece! Cinematography, sound design, performances... everything was in perfect harmony.
when I sow Dunkirk in the movie theatre my heart was beating so fast throw the whole movie, I cant think of one other movie that did that.

Even the parts where everyone is standing around doing absolutely nothing? That’s sad.
Wind River was phenomenal. My favorite on this list!
Davis Mountcastle It's in my top five!
Same. I actually think it's better than both Sicario and Hello or High Water. After the film finished, no one left their seats until the credits finished.
Kes Eylers Stephenson Same! I was like, "Holy hell, that . . . That was amazing and horrible and uncomfortable."
And yet, afterwards I realized, I didn't watch a movie at all.
So glad to see blade runner get some love. It was amazing!

How could blade runner not be on top lists? People have no clue.
2017 was really dropping heat I remember being in the theaters back to back to back to back.
Brad Henson I hope Watchmen somehow goes that route also because to me, it's VERY under rated and well done.
Bladerunner will dominate on Home media. And in time those box office reds will be lost. Like tears in rain.
I liked it, but Arrival was far better in my opinion. In fact, probably is my favorite movie of all time.

Daniel Lado completely agree. Still baffles me!

ALE280290 nope. I thought it blew it out the water
ALE280290 me too bro...
I totally agree.

Finally some love for WAR in a best of the year list! My favorite film of the year
it's in almost every best list
Gowtham Prudhvi it’s almost always down at the bottom of each list but Chris put it at #3. Many people couldn’t get past the word “War” in the title
OH HI MARK......
Apocalypse 47
"Yeah, and I'm 14!"
"Really? Happy birthday!"
LOL..
bruh i went to blade runner 2049 high and those synths stirred something inside my soul i swear
